You are aware that Oracle Education Foundation has collaborated with KVSsince 2005 to develop 21 st century skills in students to enable them to solve realproblems that might confront them later. The foundation's portal "Thinkquest.com"provides exciting tools and technologies to create, share, collaborate and improve. It isa platform which provides such learning opportunities which have been stronglysupported and advocated in the National Curriculum Framework 2005.

2. You might remember that we launched during November 2010 "TagoreMahotsav" on this platform to imbibe Tagore's great creative work in the area ofliterature and education.

3. Continuing the sequence, it has been decided to launch another interestingand exciting contest "Akshar-Aakar:Logo and Motto Competition". The contestseeks to unleash creative and imaginative talents of students and teachers. Allteachers and students (From VI onwards) of KVS are eligible to take part in thecontest. Allthat they need to participate is to have an active Thinkquest ?-ccount.

4. The employees of ROs and KVS(HO)are not eligible to take part in the contest.It is requested that the contest be given good publicity by whatever meanspossible. Detailed guidelines for the contest are enclosed herewith.

5. Please disseminate the guidelines forthwith by mail to be followed by post.Publicize through website, telephonic talks, personal interaction or any other suitableway you .think appropriate. Please ensure massive participation from your Region.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is desirous of providing a new look to its organizational logo and motto. It

is pleased to invite staff and students of the Kendriya Vidyalayas to participate in this highly creative

enterprise that is strategic in strengthening the brand image of the organization. The competition

entitled "Akshar-Aakar: Logo and Motto Competition" is basically a competition to design a logo and

script a motto for KV5.

Logo and motto of any organization are brand assets and have a powerful brand name recognition

impact. Their designing requires creativity, artistic talent, thorough understanding of the organizational

values and distinctiveness of its educational philosophy. Staff and students of the vidyalayas who are the

most important stakeholders and are a part of the ecosystem can best articulate the essence of

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.

What the logo and motto are to accomplish

• Introduce Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to the national and international community and

inspire people's trust in its heritage and credence.

• Communicate the spirit of being a pace setting institution in the 21st century, that

celebrates student diversity, inclusiveness and produces skilled and value based citizens for the

country and the world.

• Reflect the uniqueness of KVS in different domains and the advantage in life of being a KVian

Category - Who can participate

• Staff working in Kendriya Vidyalayas (Principal, Vice Principal, HM,PGT's ,TGT's, PRT's &Miscellaneous category teachers)

• Students from class 6 and above

Stages of the competition

First level - Individual: Open to all

Students and staff of all Kendriya Vidyalayas. in the country and abroad (TQ member schools) are invitedto participate. Any staff member or student from any KV can create their entries on their first personalpage on ThinkQuest. Entries made at the first level will be evaluated by a team of select educators from

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. These educat~Jrs will be officially intimated through proper channel byKVSHQ.

Second Level: Public Voting

Eight best entries in each category in logo and motto will be put up for public voting on Think Quest.

8 Logos + 8 Mottos designed by staff = Total 16 best entries

8 Logos + 8 Mottos designed by students = Total 16 best entries

Final Level: Selection of One Best Motto and Logo - Jury comprising of Officials of KVS atNational Level

The jury will select one best logo and one best motto from 32(16 +16) entries that became a part

of public voting.

Please Note:

• The Commissioner of KVS at his discretion can call for a review of any loll entries besides theones put up for public voting. If none of the entries meets the expectations of KVS, it is notbinding to change the existing logo and motto .

• The number of votes cast will provide an idea on the public sentiment but in no way influence thedecision of judges.

Time line:

• Announcement about the competition in all Vidyalayas: On or before Feb 10'11• Submission of individual entries: March 28i11

• Submission of Vidyalaya Participation information :On or before March 31i11

• Public voting opens on April 11 ill• Public voting closes on April 17'11

• Declaration of Results: April 26 '11

About the Logo

• Creative, original with no copyrighted material used.

• It should be appealing and have a recall value.

• Logo designs should be submitted as per options detailed below.

o Color code - One in Black & White combination & another in three colors. (Two designs)o Language - Same design in Hindi and Englisho Font style - Maximum two

o It should include the name Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan along with a tagline .Themaximum number of words in the tagline should be 3-4.

Though emphasis while choosing the logo will be on creativity and originality minimum technical

specifications are provided

• Image Size-1500 px by 2100px

• Image resolution -300 dpi standard

• File size-2 to 5 Mb (to be uploaded on ThinkQuest choosing Upload picture option- one picture).

• File format: jpeg or jpg

Please note: No staff member or student should feel inhibited to participate in the logo design

competition for lack of digital skills to meet the specifications mentioned.

If you have a creative idea, pick up your pen or pencil and start sketching. Take an image using a

digital camera or scan the logo and upload the same. Your brilliant concept will be presented to the

judges. Your logo has an equal chance to be selected.

The participant should outline in a maximum of 50 words using the text tool in ThinkQuest the outline

concept of their design. This should be placed below the logo designs. In all there will be 4 logos

uploaded in their first page.

About the Motto

• Original and should be the most powerful brand representative for KVS.

• Easily understood by the masses who can relate with it.

• The motto should be submitted both in Hindi and English. (Basic entry can be any language with

the closest translation that brings out the spirit ofthe motto).

Specifications

• Word limit -10-15 words

• Font -Comic sans in English & Baraha Devanagri in Hindi• Font size -12• Font Colour - black

The participant should type the motto on a word document and upload the same in a PDF format using

upload file option.

Rules

• The competition is open to the staff and students (from class 6 to12) of Kendriya Vidyalayas.

• The participants will not submit any material which is copyright and that interferes on theconfidentiality and privacy and trademark of others.

• The winner holds no copyright on the work submitted.• The work submitted is original and is' the sole work of the participant.

• The staff member and student can participate in both logo and motto competition or anyone.

• Only one first entry from any participant will be considered valid for evaluation.• KVSwill have right to use the logo and motto as per their discretion

• KVSwill have the right to edit/alter a portion of the logo and motto in ways it deems necessary.

• Entry in the competition implies you accept the terms and conditions or commit to abide by

rules and regulations.

• All entries will be accepted only on ThinkQuest and not through email or post. The entries

should be posted at the right message board.

• Only those Vidyalayas that post the vidyalaya participation report on the message board

entitled "Vidyalaya Participation Tracker" will be considered for identifying the Vidyalayas withmaximum number of entries. This will have direct bearing on the number of submissions from

each region.• The decision of the judges is final.

How to participate

First Level: Individual Participation

• Design the logo and write the motto

• Name your first personal page on ThinkQuest as Logo and Motto competition.

• For logo: Click upload and choose upload picture option. Upload the Logo. Remember

to upload 4 designs of Logoo Logo in Black and White - Hindi

o Logo in three colors - Hindi

o Logo in Black and White - English

o Logo in three colors- English

• Use the Text tool and write in a maximum of 50 words the concept about the logo

(English/Hindi) and place it below the logo designs.

• For Motto: click upload and choose upload file option. Upload the motto as per

specifications in a PDF format. Write your Name, Class/Designation, name of the

Kendriya Vidyalaya and Regism.

• Publish all content only on March 28'11 to minimize chances of copying.

Submission for evaluation:

o The participant should access on ThinkQuest the Project" KVS: Logo and Motto Competition"

o Log into ThinkQuest and in the address bar put the URL

o In the project pages identify the page assigned to your region.

o There are four message boards created on each page. Two for logo and two for motto. Of theseone of each is for the staff and another for the students.

o On the proper message board submit your entry by posting a message. Click post a message tab

and write your complete name, name of vidyalaya, class /designation and region you represent.Then paste the URL of your ThinkQuest personal page which carries the logo /motto.

o Participant can submit the entry through his/her ThinkQuest account only. Entriessubmitted/registered through any other user account will not be evaluated.

o You must make a sepa rate entry for the logo and motto competition.o Click on the link and check if it works.

Role of Vidyalayas and Regional offices'

• Vidyalayas should encourage maximum no. of entries from staff and students

>- Vidyalayas with student strength of 1000 and below must ensure that a minimum of one

entry is made in the category of staff and students in the logo and motto competition.i.e. one logo-staff, one logo - student, one motto-staff, one motto- student.

>- Vidyalayas with student strength of above 1000 should ensure minimum five entries in

both logo and motto, i.e. logo- 5 entries, motto - 5 entries (this includes entries fromstaff and student)

>- The Principal of the Vidyalaya / anyone teacher administrator of ThinkQuest should

post a message on the message board "Vidyalaya Participation Tracker" created on the

page assigned to each region the number of entries from their Vidyalaya with thenames of the participants for the logo and motto competition. This information will bea reference for identifying the Vidyalaya with maximum number of entries in thecompetition and the region with highest number of entries. This information should beposted on or before March 31'11.

• The Regional office is requested to monitor progress of the activity by choosing teachercoordinators.

• The Principal of the Vidyalaya should ensure maximum participation of their staff and studentsin the voting process.

Winners and Recognition

The winners will be announced in the followi.ng categories:

• Best entry in Logo

• Best entry in Motto

• Vidyalaya with highest number of entries (Three Vidyalayas will be identified)• Region with highest number of entries

Recognition

• The best logo and motto will be adopted by KVSas its official organizational logo and motto.

(If no entry meets the expectations of KVS HQ, it is not binding to adopt it as the official logo andmotto)

• Winners in each category will receive certificates and attractive prizes from KVS.

• All entries short listed for public voting will receive certificates and attractive prizes from KVS

Celebrating the spirit of ThinkQuest

Akshar-Aakar inspires you to think, connect, create and share, fulfilling your individual potential much as

the motto ofThinkQuest. As such it is expected that participating vidyalayas will maintain a minimum of

60% activity levels on ThinkQuest. This is a pre-requisite for entries to qualify for Public Voting andNational Evaluation.
