Mining Innovation has to capitalize on the knowledge and investment in innovation organizations in every sector of the economy.

A low-carbon economy needs more metals and minerals than before.

Mining needs Clean Technology and Clean Technology needs Mining.

Mining is a complex, multidisciplinary, global activity.

Mining includes: geology and geophysics, power and transportation, hydrology and thermodynamics, rock and soil engineering, communications and automation, socio-environmental and health sciences, law and economics.

Matching contributions are required to secure the leveraged funding

• Does a MICA project require matching funds to have been identified?YES, SIF-5 requires cash commitments to match government funds

• Can mining companies/plant operators in Canada participate?YES, MICA is mineral and metal mining agnostic

• Can a mining/plant operator submit a project for MICA funding?YES

• Can a consortium of companies submit a project into MICA?YES, a lead applicant will be required

• Can a consortium of companies submit challenges into MICA?YES, a lead applicant will be required

• How does MICA work with the Canadian mining innovation ecosystem?MICA is the SIF-5 initiative to create a national mining innovation network, inclusive of all stakeholders.

• How do mining companies/plant operators in Canada demonstrate support for the MICA application? They provide a Letter of Intent (LOI) based on the provided template

• Will MICA fund fundamental research projects (TRL 1-4)?NO, TRL 1-4 projects cannot normally be commercialized within 5-years

• Will the Network make matches between challenges identified and solution providers?YES, but MICA would normally expect target end users to have been identified.

• Will the MICA team provide one-on-one meetings to organizations for further clarity?YES, contact us via [email protected]
