YEAR 4: Using familiar vocabulary to say simple sentences to give information using a language scaffold: I go + place (countries and school) + mode of transport. (See pages below which I used to make flash cards) I chose 3 children to stand at the front with back to the class holding a flash card each. The children then took it in turns to guess what the sentence was. When a correct word was guessed that child turned round. Obviously "Je vais" was always the correct starting card but this helped to build confidence. I was really pleased with how much the children enjoyed this activity (they asked for it again the following week!). The amount of speaking really increased and because of the repetition, nearly all the children, including the least confident were willing to say a sentence. They particularly liked the funny sentences e.g. je vais à l'école en avion and je vais en Allemagne à pied! This work followed on really nicely from a song I had been teaching them to the tune of "She'll be coming round the mountain" about how we get to school. Example verse: Je vais à l'école en bus, en bus Je vais à l'école en bus, en bus. Je vais à l'école en bus A l'école en bus Je vais à l'école en bus, en bus!

YEAR 4: Using familiar vocabulary to say simple sentences to give information using a language scaffold:

I go + place (countries and school) + mode of transport. (See pages below which I used to make flash cards)

I chose 3 children to stand at the front with back to the class holding a flash card each.
