Lesson Objectives/WALT: Describe at least 3 features of comic book drawing/manga

art which make superheroes instantly recognisable. Include these features in my own superhero art. Decide on a name for my superhero that represents a

chosen value from Word Cline activity. Use Word Art to create a name badge for superhero.

Watch you tube clip and sketch on paper as each step is explained. Keep as reference for when drawing own superhero later.

Discuss specific features of manga art: Large round faces, large eyes, childlike features, small bodies.

Look at selection of superhero and manga art images of superheroes (see below)Discuss features of superheroes: cape, mask, boots, gloves, arms positioned to show determination (e.g. pointing upwards, hands on hips) First letter of name on chest.

Discuss how movement can be achieved by sketching hands and upper body larger and lower half of body diminishing in size.

Using A4 paper, sketch superhero figure. Encourage students to draw figure large enough that it will fit from top to bottom of the paper. Include cape/mask/letter. Colour using primary colours or neon colours (Jovi crayons give good depth of colour.

Cut out and glue to coloured card. Cut out again. This time leave a 2cm border all around the superhero.

Write superhero’s name using word art. (Use a stencil font and colour in with crayons if you do not have access to a colour photocopier) Cut out and glue onto a shape such as a star.

Add glitter discerningly!
