English

Year 1 –We will begin the term by learning about fairy tales. We will learn a well known fairy tale and use the structure to work towards writing our own fairy tale. We will be looking at a range of instructions and identifying the main features. We’ll watch some instructional videos and create our own simple instructions.

Year 2- We will start the term by completing the fairy tale unit that we started before Easter. We will then orally learn a report about animals and we will learn about nocturnal to write our own reports.

Mathematics

Year 1- In fractions we will be learning about halves and quarters of shapes and groups of numbers. We will investigating the properties of 3D shapes.

Year 2- We will be investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and sorting them using a range of different criteria. We will be learning about measuring weight and capacity.

Science

Year 1 will be learning about plants and animals this term. We will identify and name parts of a plant and compare different animals.

Year 2 will be studying biology this term. We will be looking at living and non living, plants and animals and simple food chains and habitats.

Computing

Children will be learning to store, retrieve and manipulate information using a range of programs including Microsoft word, 2Simple and J2E.

They will continue to learn about safety and communicating safely and respectfully online.

PE

This term we will be creating our own gymnastic routines in pairs using the apparatus.

Year 1 will also be choreographing their own dance and Year 2 will be focusing on net and wall skills.

Arts & Music

In Art, children will be developing techniques of colour, pattern, texture and shape by studying landscapes from different places. They will use what they learn to create their own landscape. In music, children will be exploring a range of musical instruments.

RE & PSHCE

In RE, both year 1 and 2 will be learning about Judaism and Hinduism. They will be learning about festivals and celebrations.

In PSHE, we will be learning about relationships with others and transitions.

Geography & History

In History we will be comparing two explorers from different time periods. We will be studying Neil Armstrong as our explorer from the past and Bear Grylls as a modern day explorer.

In Geography, we will be comparing our local area to countries that Bear Grylls has visited. Year 2will be using aerial images to create their own plans and maps.
