AWP’s Writer to Writer program has two sessions per year (spring and fall). Our spring session had 20 mentor-mentee pairs. # awpmentorship


We have 7,000 individual members, and many are writers who have never been associated with an MFA program. # awpmentorship

So while W2W is open to all members, we encourage apps from writers of color and those who don't have an MFA. # awpmentorship


We are working to diversify our W2W mentor pool, and we need your help. # awpmentorship

We 1st look at applications then ask for 10-pg writing samples from those for whom we think it's possible we'll make a match. # awpmentorship








We send 3 applications, along with writing samples, to each mentor. The mentor chooses the 1 person they want to work with. # awpmentorship


Mentors don't tend to look for the best or most accomplished writer. They look for the person they think they can best help. # awpmentorship


Oh, and it's important to note that mentees then have the final decision on whether the mentor is best for them. # awpmentorship


I worried I should have more focus in my project when the program began, but my mentor's experience is what helped me find it.# AWPmentorship


So many aspects to this craft, the modules used over the 3 months offered a great opportunity to explore several.# awpmentorship
