FACULTY

To achieve the objectives and goals for imparting quality knowledge and inculcating required skills to the students, DIHM&CT has highly experienced and well qualified faculty. AFFILIATION a) B.Sc. H.H.A. Programme

DIHM&CT is one of the thirty (30) Institutes of Hotel Management affiliated to National Council for Hotel Management & Catring Technology (NCHM & CT) for Three years B.Sc. Programme in Hospitality & Hotel Administration. NCHM & CT administers a common syllabus for the degree course.

b) Trade Diploma Courses (1% Year) Trade Diploma Courses are affiliated to Board of Technical Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.

PROGRAMMES OFFERED

1. B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration This is one of the popular programmes in the area of hospitality and hotel administration offered in India. The knowledge imparted and the skills inculcated to the students in this programme are widely accepted by the Hotel and Tourism Industry at supervisory and middle management level. In keeping with the changing needs of the industry, the syllabus of this programme is periodically updated.

How to apply for B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration? Applications for admission to the 1 st year of B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration are invited in December / January every year. Notification to this effect is made by NCHM & CT in leading newspapers. Joint Entrance Examination is held on third Sunday of April every year in different cities (notified in the advertisement) throughout the country. Based on performance in the written test, candidates are short-listed for centralised counseling in Delhi in the month of June. Allotment of Institute is on merit-cum-preference basis.

ADMISSION

Candidates selected through above process are admitted to the allotted Institute on payment of first term fee by the stipulated date in the month of July.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO B.Sc. PROGRAMMEQUALIFICATION

Minimum qualification for admission to the 1 st year of B.SC Hospitality and Hotel Administration is a pass certificate in +2 levels or Senior Secondary or equivalent examination. Candidates appearing in +2 examinations in March / April can also apply. Candidate placed in compartment in the qualifying examination is not eligible for admission.

AGE

Age of the candidate should not be more than 22 years as on 1 st June 2010. For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category age limit is relaxable by 3 years.

2. TRADE DIPLOMA COURSES

Duration of trade diploma course is 1 ~ years. Students are given one year theoretical and practical inputs at the institute and six (6) months compulsory industrial training in hospitality or catering establishment. The institute will arrange a part of on the job training either during or after the completion of the course. If the student fails to qualify or join allotted training in the related subject, the responsibility for the 6 months training rests with the student. 1. Food Production:

Students are moulded as a kitchen team member as per the current industry requirements. They get placed into various star category hotels & resorts like Taj, Oberoi's, ITC group etc, along with different fine dining restaurants, food courts, multiplexes, Q.S.R's & various catering sections of organizations like railways, airlines, hospitals, armed forces, cruise lines etc.

2. Food & Beverage Service:

We train the students in food and beverage service operation. They get placed as stewards, captain, supervisors & various other levels in restaurants, cafe, bars, coffee-shop, banquets of hotels, resorts, food courts, multiplexes, Q.S.R,'s and catering section of organizations like railways, airlines, hospitals, armed forces etc.

3. Bakery & Confectionery:

The students are trained to be part of bakery department in kitchens of various organizations like star category hotels, bakeries, Q.S.R's, airlines, resorts, armed forces along with an option for self employment, where govt. incentives like loans and technical support are also being given.

4. Front Office:

The students are groomed as per the industry standards, so that they are able to become a part of the front office or reception desk/area of hotels, shopping malls, multiplexes, hospitals, amusement parks, recreational complexes, retail outlets etc. where they come in direct contact with the guests.

5. Accommodation Operations:

We make the students capable of handling housekeeping operations by being a part of cleaning work force of housekeeping department of hotels, malls, multiplexes, MNC's, companies, cleaning agencies etc. Along with this there is an option for self employment like starting up housekeeping/cleaning agencies, where govt. incentives like loans and technical support are also given.

Eligibility for Admission to Trade Diploma Courses

WHEN TO APPLY (FOR COURSES AT SERIAL NO. 1-5)

Admission notification is issued in the month of May/June every year in leading newspapers Prospectus containing application form can be obtained from the Institute on payment of Rs. 800/or by post through a demand draft of Rs. 8501- drawn in favor of Delhi Institute of Hotel Management ~ Catering Technology payable at New Delhi.

HOW TO APPLY (FOR COURSES AT SERIAL NO. 1-5)

Duly filled application form attached to the prospectus must be accompanied with: (a) Attested photocopy of mark sheets (both sides) as proof of educational

qualification.(b) Attested photocopy of proof of age i.e. class 10th pass certificate.(c) School leaving certificate with character certificate from the Head of

Institution (School IColiege) last attended.(d) Attested photocopy of reserve category certificate issued by appropriate

authority in candidate's own name, if applicable.(e) Two passport size photographs, one pasted on the application form in the

space provided for it and the other attached to the form. Four (04) extra photographs will be required at the time of admission.

Completed application must reach the institute on or before the last date Application received after due date will not be accepted and no

representation will be entertained in this regard. Candidate seeking choice of course (S) in admission is required to indicate the courses in order of preference on the application from. No addition or change of course preference will be permitted at the time of counseling 1 personal interview.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE TRADE DIPLOMA COURSES 10th class of 10+2 pattern / metric or equivalent from any recognized institute with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks or C-1 grade and English (passed) as a compulsory subject. A relaxation of 10% marks or C-2 grade in the minimum aggregate is admissible to SC/ST candidates.

AGE:

Applicant should not be below 15 years and above 25 years as on 1 st June 2010. The upper age limit can be relaxed by 5 years in case of SC/ST candidates.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Admission of candidates will be based on their performance in the Entrance Test conducted by the Institute. The test will be for the 100 marks & two hours duration. It will comprise of objective type question on General English, Arithmetic, General Knowledge &Aptitude (25 questions on each section). Amerit list will be prepared according to the marks obtained by candidates. If two or more candidates have same number of marks, candidates securing higher marks in general English section will be given preference. In case General English marks are also same preference will be given to the elder candidates as per the date of birth.

PHYSICAL FITNESS, MEDICAL TESTS AND CHECK-UP

The applicant must be in good mental and physical health and should be free from any physical defects likely to interfere with active indoor and outdoor duties/activities. It is compulsory and mandatory to go for medical tests and check-up from the designated medical centre and submit reports confirming medical fitness on the prescribed Medical Form attached along with the application form to join the Institute prior to joining the classes.

85% of available seats in each course are reserved for residents of Delhi State and 15% seats are for out of Delhi candidatesSl. No. Category Percentage (%)

SCHEDULED CASTE & SCHEDULED TRIBE

15% of the seats are reserved for Schedule Caste and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe candidates, in each course. If the requisite number of students are not available for fillit:l9 the quota, of seats reserved for Scheduled caste or Scheduled Tribe, the remaining seats will be offered to the general category candidates and will be filled on merit. SC/ST candidates are required to attach an attested copy of Caste / Tribe certificate issued by the competent authority, along with the application form.

CHILDREN OF ARMED FORCES PERSONNEL

5% of the total seats of fresh intake in each discipline will be offered to the children

of this category in the following order of preference:

a) Those who are killed/disabled in action during hostilities.b) Those who are disabled while on duty in peace timec) Those who are killed or disabled not on duty. d) Serving personnel of Armed/Para Military forces.e) Ex-Personnel of Armed/Para military forces or ex-serviceman.

Candidates will have to get the application sponsored by Rajya Sainik Board, Delhi or the competent authority in respect of Para-Military personnel.

SELECTION PROCEDURE (FOR COURSES AT SERIAL No.2.1 -2.5)

(A) Separate merit list will be prepared for General and SC/ST/OBC category. Courses will be offered on the basis of availability of seats.

C) Candidate whose names appear on the merit list must report on the prescribed date and time indicated on the merit list displayed in the institute. Claims for admission by late comers will not be entertained.

INSTRUCTION TO FHE CANDIDATE TO BE FOLLOWED AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION

(i) Candidates must sign the "Arrival Register" giving their name, date, time pf arrival at the admission desk on the day of admission.

(ii) Produce and submit acknowledgment form and all other original documents With attested photocopies for verification when the name of the candidate is called out as per merit. Admission is subject to production of original documents.

(iii) On selection, first term fee is required to be paid then and there. Admission offer will stand cancelled if fee is not paid. No representation for extension of time for admission will be entertained.

(iv) When a candidate's name is called out for admission and if he/ she do not report to the Admission Officer, the seat so available will be offered to the next candidate in the merit list.

(V) Candidates who do not respond to admission call made in order of merit, second chance for admission will be given in the subsequent admission session. For this purpose, sessions will be divided in two i. e 10 AM to 1 PM (First session) and 2.15 PM to 04:15PM (Second session). Candidate who

responds in the second chance (as described above) will be granted admission against the seat available at that time. Candidate not responding even in second chance will have no claim at all for admission and no representation will be accepted in this regard.

No separate intimation regarding the selection will be given and all the candidates are advised to see the Notice Board for dates of admission in the Institute.

No additional admission will be made even in case some of the candidates admitted withdraw their admission or any seat falls vacant after admission to the same is made. No representation in this matter will be entertained.

Note: Admission of the student shall stand cancelled ab-inito if any information supplied or document submitted is proved to be false / fake at any stage.

FEES:

Admitted students win invariably open a 'Savings Bank Account' with the Institute's bank, i.e. Syndicate Bank, DHIM & CT branch. All transactions relating to payment of fees will be through institute's bank only. All fees are payable in CASH / Demand Draft payable at Delhi. Cheques, Postal Order etc. are not acceptable.

The fees paid at the time of admission or during the course are not refundable. Therefore, no request for refund of fees will be entertained. Only caution money is refundable.

PAYMENT OF FINES AND DUES

Students are required to pay fine if imposed on them for the cost of any damage or loss of library books equipment or any other Institute's property within a week of imposition of fine. On failure to do so, the same will be recovered from their caution money deposit / or on cost. All dues to the Institute shall be cleared by the students before they are permitted to appear for the final examination. If the dues are not cleared, Admit Cards, Provisional Certificate/Diploma/Degree will be with held.

LATE FEE

If the dues (other than those payable at the time of admission) are not paid by the due date, a late payment fine @ Rs. 101- per day up to the tenth day after the ·due date (including holidays) shall be realized, subject to a maximum of Rs. 700/- only.

If the fees are not paid within 15 days after the due date including holidays' for any reason whatsoever, the name of the defaulting student shall be deemed to have been removed from the rolls of the Institute. Re-admission will be granted within next 15

days only on payment of readmission fee of Rs. 2000/- and fine. Principal of the institute / competent authority is empowered to waive off late fee fine only in genuine and deserving cases.

STRIKING OFF NAMES FROM THE ROLLS

The name of the student will be deemed struck off from the rolls on account of:

i) His/her own request endorsed by the parents/guardian. ii) Non-payment of tuition fee and other dues after 15 days from the last date for

payment. The Principal, however, may grant not more than 10 days of grace in deserving cases on application by the parent or guardian.

The name of the students may also be struck-off from the rolls on account of:

a) Continued absence beyond ten consecutive working days without obtaining leave permission.

b) Irregular attendance and poor progress in studies.c) If ordered to be expelled or rusticated from the Institute.

On ground (a), (b) and (c) above the parents/guardian of the students shall be given reasonable opportunity to show cause as to why action be not taken against the concerned student. The parents I guardians may in their own interest keep in touch with the authorities regarding conduct, progress and attendance of their ward.

HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION

Hostel accommodation is not available. Students will have to make their own arrangements for stay at their own expenses.

EXAMINATION & TESTS

Examination rules of the Board of the Board of Technical Education (BTE) I National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHM&CT) shall be applicable. These rules are subject to modification / alteration by the BTE/NCHM & CT.

As per laid out examination norms of Board of Technical Education the students are required to clear and pass both term examinations conducted at the institute. Failing in sessional examinations will lead to student being debarred from appearing in the final examination conducted by the BTE.

Besides annual examination conducted at the end of the session by the affiliating bodies i.e NCHM & CT / BTE, there will be minimum one term end examination for B.Sc. programme students and two terminal examinations for one year trade diploma students during the academic year. Weight age of marks for the purpose of the final examinations will be as follows:

1. Each subject will carry term end and sessional marks to the extent of 30% of theory as well as practical.

2. Sessional marks will be awarded on the basis of performance in terminal test. Each test will carry 15% marks.

3. The term end examination and sessional marks obtained by the student will be added to the marks of annual examination conducted by the NCHM I BTE.

4. Student who do not take their studies and examination diligently are liable to be removed or suspended from the rolls of the Institute at the discretion of the Principal.

Each student of B.Sc programme and one year trade diploma is required to attend a minimum of 70% lectures in each subject (theory and practical will be treated as - individual subject) and 75% in aggregate. These are the minimum requirements laid down by the National Council and Board of Technical Education respectively. Relaxation or benefit on account of absence due to illness or any other reason will be allowed only on genuine grounds as per rules of NCHM and BTE to a maximum of 10%. The attendance will be taken into account from the date of commencement of academic session.

Those unable to complete the minimum percentage of attendance will not be allowed to appear in the annual examination conducted by the Councilor the Board. The student may be allowed relaxation in attendance on medical grounds subject to the following conditions.

• The student will have to submit his/her application within a period of 7 days from the date of indisposition. • The medical certificate and fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner holding a medical degree not below M.B.B.S. shall be produced on the date and day of joining the Institute after illness and declared medically fit. If the application with medical certificate and the fitness, certificate is not received within the period the student will not be entitled to the benefit thereof with regard to the relaxation of attendance.

REGULATIONS OF THE DELHI INSTITUTE OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT & CATERING TECHNOLOGY

Every student on admission must obtain an Identity card from the institute's office. The student must always carry the card with him/her and present it for inspection when demanded. No student will be allowed to attend the institute premises without identity Card.Students must attend theory classes, practical and tutorials of the institute and would visit catering establishments and take part in indoor and outdoor catering parties arranged by the institute. Students must not absent themselves from any curricular and extracurricular activities without the prior permission of the Principal. Such absence without leave may lead to loss of term.To keep a term a student has to complete, to the satisfaction of the Principal, the course of study prescribed for the class to which the student belongs.

Students must not attend any class other than their own without prior permission of the Principal.Conduct of the students in their class as well as in the premises of the institute, shall be as such that it will not cause any disturbance to the fellow students or to other classes. The Principal may expel a student whose conduct is not satisfactory and the fees will be forfeited. Student must not loiter in the Institute premises while the classes are in session.Institute campus is a "NO SMOKING ZONE". A punitive fine of RS.1 000/- will be levied on defaulter. Consumption of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited and violators shall be Liable for expulsion from the institute. Students are not allowed to carry mobile phone in the campus. A fine of Rs 1000/· will be charged to the defaulter and the instrument will be confiscated. The student will have to face even an expulsion from the institute for possessing mobile.In debates and other meetings the chair must be taken by a responsible person approved by the Principal and the subject of debate must also have prior approval of the Principal.No student will be allowed to take part in active politics.No student should communicate any information or write about matters concerning the institute administration to the press.Students are expected to take proper care of the institute's property and help in

keeping the premises neat and tidy. Any damage done to property of the Institute by disfiguring walls, writing graffiti, furniture, fixture and fittings etc., is a breach of

discipline and liable to severe punishment and damage recovery. Any property of the Institute, damaged due to negligence by students will have to

be replaced or cost paid by them. This will be in addition to any other disciplinary action as may be considered appropriate by the Academic Council/Principal.

If for any other reason, the continuance of a student in the Institute is in the opinion of the Principal, detrimental to the best interest of the Institute, the Principal may

ask such students to leave the Institute without giving any reason for his decision. The fees paid shall be forfeited.

Absence without proper application will be considered a breach of discipline. Leave without permission is also liable to be fined. No leave will be granted without prior

application, except in case of illness or emergency. Prior permission must be obtained for all other leave from the Principal, who will consider the application on

individual merit.

Student when free should make use of the Institute's Library and must not loiter

around in the premises of the Institute.

No student can leave Institute premises during the working hours without a written

permission from the faculty / academic Incharge and Principal. In case of

emergency or illness or other reasons for absenteeism, prior written application must be made to the Principal through academic incharge. Breach of this rule may

lead to suspension. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Non-compliance of the rules of the Institute can also be dealt with by means of

suitable fines.

Matters not covered by the existing rules will rest at the absolute, discretion of the

Academic Council and Principal.

FORM OF DISCIPLINARY MEASURES

The following disciplinary measures may be adopted by the Institute while dealing with the misconduct on the part of students namely:

(a) Cancellation of Scholarship, in part or in whole, temporarily or permanently. (b) Fine (c) Suspension (d) Expulsion and (e)

Rustication

PROCEDURE AND RELATED IMPLICATIONS

(a) There shall be a Board in the Institution, constituted by the Principal. (b) The Board shall consider report on offence, forbidden practice committed by

a student and suggest punishment for the same. (c) Guided by the recommendations of the Board, the Principal will consider the

matter and award suitable punishment according to his final judgment in this regard.

(d) In case, the punishment happens to be expulsion/rustication of a student from the Institution, the matter shall be referred to the Executive Committee of the institute for approval.

(e) Expulsion shall debar the student from being re-admitted to the same Institute

(f) Where a student is, rusticated, he/she shall not be re-admitted to the

Institute till the expiry of the period of rustication.

(g) Every punishment awarded to a student shall be recorded in the conduct register of such student. This may be reflected in the character certificate to be issued to him/her.

STUDENT AMENITIESDining room, steel lockers, water coolers are provided for the convenience of the

students.

GAMES, SPORTS

The students can take active part in games and sports facilities provided by the institute.CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Students are to take active interest in co-curricular activities like exhibition, debates, drama, music etc. which may be organized on important occasions by the institute.

GUIDELINES FOR CONDUCT ON CAMPUS

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

The Institute is different from other educational institutions, as it is a professional institute committed to prepare students for careers in hospitality industry.

ABSENTEEISM AND LEAVE

a) Absence without leave will be considered as a breach of discipline. Apart from losing attendance for the day, the student may be awarded punishment as deemed fit by the Principal.

b) Absence due to illness should be notified to the institute followed by a certificate from a registered MBBS doctor on the date of resuming classes.

c) Leave shall not be granted for reasons other than illness.

DISCIPLINE

Students are required to maintain strict discipline on campus. Smoking, or consumption of alcohol or drugs, is strictly prohibited and violators shall be liable for expulsion from the Institute.

PROCUREMENT OF UNIFORM, KITCHEN KIT, PRACTICAL JOURNALS & COURSE TEXT BOOK

Uniform is prescribed for attending practical and theory classes. Uniform, Kitchen Kit, Practical Journals and text books should be procured from vendors/service providers for each item approved by the Institute prior to joining the classes.

DETAINED AND FAILED STUDENTS

FAILED STUDENTS

Students failing in annual examination will have to appear in the subsequent annual examination they may rejoin the institute as regular students on payment of full fees, at the discretion of the Principal, or appear in the subsequent annual examination as an external candidate on payment of prescribed examination fee.

DETAINED STUDENTS

Detained students will have to seek read mission as a regular student.

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AND PLACEMENT

Second year students of B.Sc Hospitality & Hotel Administration course and one year Trade Diploma course students are detailed for compulsory industrial training (IT) during the summer vacation Industrial training is one of the components of the academics and students are required to under go such practical training. In respect of second years IT marks are added for computation of the second year results. However, Board of Technical Education will award diploma only on completion of prescribed six months Industrial Training. The field and practical training is arranged by the training and placements coordinator at the cost, risk, liability and responsibility of the students, parents/ guardians.
