Year 13 Ancient History ------------------------------ ----------------- OCR Ancient History AS/A-Level H007/ H407 Director of Faculty: Mr M Retberg (email [email protected] ) Head of Subject: Mr D Midgley (email [email protected] ) Topics studied this year Greek History: Depth study: The Society and Politics of Sparta. Roman History: Depth Study: The Flavian Emperors. In Year 13, students undertake a more focussed study of Ancient History using original sources, with a much greater emphasis on the evaluation of the nature of the source material. The study of the society and political structure of Sparta looks at, specifically how other Greeks tried to explain the often bizarre family, marriage and ruling practices of this most unusual state. The study of the Flavian Emperors looks at how a new dynasty established itself in Rome after the flaming disaster that was the fall of the Julio-Claudians. Again there is a much greater emphasis on evaluating the nature of the sources, especially how Roman writers such as Suetonius depicted the actions of each. Both strands have been chosen and are taught to draw comparison and review of content taught in the previous year in preparation for the terminal exam. Assessments All units are assessed by external examinations in summer exam series. Final A Level examinations will also assess material taught in year 12. Key Dates All examinations take place in the summer exam series beginning in YEAR 13 2018/1

The SEND department is within the Inclusion Faculty. The department aims to raise achievement across the curriculum for students who have additional needs or disabilities, are vulnerable and need a little extra support in or outside the classroom.

We work within and beyond the classroom in partnership with subject, pastoral staff and parents to meet the individual needs of pupils from Years 7 through to Year 13.
