Norton Oakes Cricket Club welcomes kids aged 5-8

Norton Oakes Cricket Club is gearing up for All Stars 2018  – the England and Wales Cricket Board’s national initiative to introduce cricket to 5-8 year olds. Our programme will start on 18th May at 5.30pm. Families can sign up now through the national All Stars registration system online at www.ecb.co.uk/play/all-stars

Cricketers from Norton Oakes have already been visiting local primary schools and delivering fun taster sessions to encourage children to get involved and become passionate about cricket.

All Stars costs £40 per child and features:

Eight one-hour sessions, held over eight weeks Emphasis on fun and being active Focus on developing your child’s movement skills Great first introduction to cricket Safe and fully accredited Valuable time with your kids

Every child that registers will receive a backpack full of goodies including a cricket bat, ball, water bottle and personalised shirt and cap. Children will develop their skills in batting,

throwing, catching, bowling, running, teamwork and communication. The core cricketing value of respect for others will also be emphasised.

Many of our current juniors, parents and senior cricketers have signed up to be trained as Activators to help deliver the sessions. If rain affects any sessions we will extend the All Stars programme to ensure that the full 8 week commitment is met. We hope that after getting to know us parents and their children will join the Norton Oakes Cricket community and become members of our Club. Our cricket club has a long and proud local history going back to 1877 and was originally established for the workers on the Bagshawe estate. Our picturesque ground in Oakes Park has the unusual feature of a large oak tree growing in the outfield. Cricketers score a 4 if any part of the tree is hit during play.

Our Friday evening junior practice sessions which involve our under 9s, under 11s and under 13s teams will continue throughout July. (6pm -8pm). These sessions cost £3 per child. Winter hardball nets practice for under 11s upwards take place at Meadowhead School sports hall between November and March each year.

We really encourage all new parents/carers to get involved in our All Stars activities and you will of course be welcome at our clubhouse bar for refreshments when required!

So come and join our family friendly local cricket club and turn your classmates into team mates!
