The Showing of the Holy Cross

Please stand and face the front door of the Cathedral. The following antiphon is intoned three times as the cross is brought into the Church. After each time all genuflect to the Cross.

The Adoration of the Holy Cross

As the hymn begins the Presider, the Servers venerate the cross. The members of the Assembly follow. Suitable gestures of veneration include bowing, genuflecting, touching or kissing. It is possible for three or four people to simultaneously reverence on either side of the large Cross.

When the adoration has been concluded, the Cross is carried by the Deacon or a minister to its place at the altar. Lighted candles are placed around or on the altar or near the Cross.
