Flower Wreath

On a hot day last week I just had to bring out my favorite cottonyarn: Scheepjes Catona. I had just made the flowerbroosch and wanted to make something more with the same kind of flower. The result is this little floralwreath. I knitted the piece for the circle and crocheted the flowers.

Material Yarn: Scheepjes Catona in the following colors: 226 (green), and then I made one flower in each color: 251, 394, 128, 282 och 240, and 2 flowers with color 398. Of course you can make all flowers in the same color and make more than seven. Knitting needles: 3 m.m.Gauge: approx. 20 sts/10 cm when knitting the pattern.Crochet hook 3 m.m. Size: You can use any size of circle shaped Styrofoam, similar to the one on the photo.Other stuff: Styrofoam ring, buttons, a little ring for hanging, stitchmarkers

Pattern ”Twisted seed stitch”:Multiple of 2+1 sts.

K1B: knit one in the stitch one round below

Round 1: KnitRound 2: K1, *K1B, k1* repeat *-* Round 3: KnitRound 4: K1B *k1, K1B* repeat *-*

Start:Measure the circumference of the wreath. (Mine was 10 cm) to see how wide your knitting should be. Check out my tips-section on how to calculate numbers of stitches so cast on. I actually just cast on a number and hoped for the best, trying the piece on the Styrofoam when I had knit a few cm. Make sure it’s not too tight and not to loose. 19 sts was perfect for my wreath.

Knit according to pattern until the piece is as long as the wreath is round. I compared the knitting with the wreath every now and then.

Cast off when the piece is long enough. Start by sewing the short sides together. Then I put the knitting on the ring, holding it in place using stitchmarkers (see pic) and sewed the long sides together.

Crochet flowers:Ch 4, Join with a sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: In the ring: ch 3 (=1 dc, ch 1), *2 dc, ch1* repeat *-* 4 times. End with: 1 dc, ch 1, sl stin 2nd chain. (Total of 10 dc (5 pairs of st) and chain 1 between each pair.)

Round 2: sl st in chst, *in next dc: (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 trtr) in next dc: (1 trtr, 1 dtr, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc.) sk ch* repeat *-* 4 times, making a total of 5 petals.

Find a nice button, and if the holes of the button are big enough, you can use one of the yarnends of the flower to sew the button on to the flower. If not, use sewing thread. Sew in one of the yarnends and use the other one to sew the flower to the wreath before fastening the end.

I made 7 flowers, and you can make as many as you like, but I recommend that you finish all before you sew any on to the wreath so that you can see how they look together.

FinishingIf you have some kind of ring at home, you can use it to sew it on to the back for hanging, but you can make it from yarn as well, of course.

Done!
