CEDAR CHAPEL UMC NEWSMonthly Newsletter February 2019
Greetings!Scripture:
Remember the Mission of the Church“Brothers and sisters, we ask you to respect those who are working with you, leading you, and instructing you. Think of them highly with love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are disorderly. Comfort the discouraged. Help the weak. Be patient with everyone. Make sure no one repays a wrong with a wrong, but always pursue the good for each other and everyone else. Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Don’t suppress the Spirit. Don’t brush off Spirit-inspired messages but examine everything carefully and hang on to what is good. Avoid every kind of evil. Now, may the God of peace himself cause you to be completely dedicated to him; and may your spirit, soul, and body be kept intact and blameless at our Lord Jesus Christ’s coming. The one who is calling you is faithful and will do this.”
I Thessalonians 5:12-24 (CEB)
Please pray for of the all delegates to the

District/Great Plains Conference news:Readiness 360 Training: Congregations of every size are facing immense and fast-moving challenges. Readiness 360 is a web-based tool used to help any congregation get a sense of its congregation’s spiritual intensity, missional alignment, dynamic relationships, and cultural openness. This allows congregational leadership to assess its current capacity to reach new and diverse groups of people in their community, while also providing information to aid in strategic planning. The Great Plains United Methodist Conference is offering this tool to every congregation in the Great Plains to assess their readiness to multiply and have a greater impact on the mission field where they are planted at no cost throughout 2021. If you are interested, please let Pastor Marsha know. Thanks
Fresh Expression Vision Days - If you are interested, please let Pastor Marsha know. Thanks
Clergy and Lay persons from all of our congregations are encouraged to take part in one of two Vision Days being held in the Great Plains Conference. A Vision Day is an opportunity to learn about what is a Fresh Expression while discovering new ways to work with the Holy Spirit to reach persons who are outside the walls of the church in our communities with the love and Good News of Christ. Michael Beck, a UMC pastor, who has led his congregation to begin over a dozen Fresh Expressions will be the trainer.
February 2, 2019 at Waters Edge in Omaha, NE – 9:30-3:30 February 9, 2019 at First UMC in Topeka, KS – 9:30- 3:30 Cost: Free for Great Plains UMC leaders and laity, lunch is included. It is an expectation that clergy who are attending bring at least one or two laity.
General Conference 2019
General Conference will be held February 23-26 in St Louis, Missouri. Please be in prayer individually, congregationally, and as networks for the delegates and conference. Viewing of the conference should be available via the Conference Website at www.greatplainsumc.org. A summary of the three created plans can be found at www.greatplainsumc.org/files/way+forward/three+plans+summary+sheet.pdf. In addition, Bishop Gary Mueller of the Arkansas Conference recently composed an article addressing why delegates should revisit the Connectional Conference Plan. The article is attached to this Eblast.
Dillons Reward Program
As mentioned in previous Newsletters, Cedar Chapel’s new account number is HT300 and the only time you need to remember that is if you are new to the rewards program. If you shop at Dillons and have not selected Cedar Chapel as the organization you wish to support, please do so. For those that have supported the church in the past, you don’t need to do anything. The last quarter of 2018, the church’s share of the Rewards money amounted to $82.32, thanks to the help of 15 households. Please contact Roger Hahn if you have any questions.
Social Media privacy
In a world where people post every detail of their lives online, and privacy settings on social networking sites change daily, it's hard to know how to set up your privacy settings and how to protect yourself. Lifehacker.com offers a primer on setting your privacy settings on the popular site, Facebook.
Check them out here: The Always Up-To-Date Guide to Managing Your Facebook Privacy Settings.

Bring them on down and we’ll take care of them for you! It’s always appreciated if you smash them & remove the tab first, but not really necessary.

Psalms 91:1-2 (NRSV)
“You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”
Grant, almighty God, all who confess, (members & delegates), your beloved disciples, peace, justice, and respect for one another as they unite in your truth. Bless the atmosphere as they work together in your love, as they prayerfully seek your will for the church moving forward.
Merciful God, we invite your Holy Spirit, wisdom, and discernment for our delegates as they vote during this special conference in February, on this very delicate, life-changing “discipline.”
You are the God of Omniscience. Help us, help our nation, and help our global partners and ministries around the world, to honor one another, as they all reflect on the doctrine of the United Methodist Church, for the common good of all people. God, you commissioned us to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. In all our decision making, help us to stay true to our covenant truth and your commission. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. Humbly submitted,
Pastor Marsha E. Haney

Father, help me to be bold in obedience to you and courageous

May the words of my mouth and the
actions that accompany them give

It is you who chooses my path. I will trust in your direction and not
