THE PARISH CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS
UPPER TWICKENHAM
T
HE HOLY FAMILY
OF JESUS, MARY & JOSEPH
(Sunday in the Christmas Octave)
PARISH MASSINTRODUCTORY RITES
ENTRANCE HYMN
The hymn pauses when the altar party arrives at the Crib.
U
nto us is born a Son,
King of quires supernal:
See on earth his life begun,
Of lords the Lord eternal.
Christ, from heaven descending low,
Come on earth a stranger;
Ox and ass their owner know,
Becradled in the manger.
This did Herod sore affray,
And grievously bewilder,
So he gave the word to slay,
And slew the little childer.
Of his love and mercy mild
This the Christmas story;
And O that Mary's gentle child
Might lead us up to glory.
O and A, and A and O,
Cum cantibus in choro,
Let our merry organ go,
Benedicamus Domino.
GREETING
The Priest introduces todays Mass and invites us to confess our sins.
Have mercy on us, O Lord.
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, O lord your mercy.
And grant us your Salvation.
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
GLORIA IN EXCELSIS
THE COLLECT
O
God, who were pleased to give us the shining example of the Holy Family, graciously grant that we may imitate them in practicing the virtues of family life and in the bonds of charity, and so, in the joy of your house, delight one day in eternal rewards. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.Amen.
THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
SIT
First Reading
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
GRADUAL HYMN
B
ehold the great Creator makes
himself a house of clay,
a robe of virgin flesh he takes
which he will wear for ay.
Hark, hark, the wise eternal Word,
like a weak infant cries!
In form of servant is the Lord,
and God in cradle lies.
This wonder struck the world amazed,
it shook the starry frame;
squadrons of spirits stood and gazed,
then down in troops they came.
Glad shepherds ran to view this sight;
a choir of angels sings,
and eastern sages with delight
adore this King of kings.
Join then all hearts that are not stone,
and all our voices prove,
to celebrate this holy One,
the God of peace and love.
Second Reading
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Alleluia! Your words, O Lord are spirit and life.
Alleluia! Open our hearts to your word.
The next good joy that Mary had, it was the joy of five;
To see her own Son Jesus Christ, Raising the dead to life.
The next good joy that Mary had, it was the joy of six;
To see her own Son Jesus Christ upon the Crucifix.
The next good joy that Mary had, it was the joy of seven;
To see her own Son Jesus Christ ascending into Heaven.
THE HOLY GOSPEL
At the End we sing:
THE PROFESSION OF FAITH STAND
I
believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
THE PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
Lord, hear us ORLord, in your mercy.
Lord, graciously hear us.Hear our prayer.
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR AND THE GIFTS
G
ood King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel
MEN: "Hither, page, and stand by me
If thou know'st it, telling
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
LADIES "Sire, he lives a good league hence
Underneath the mountain
Right against the forest fence
By Saint Agnes' fountain."
MEN "Bring me flesh and bring me wine
Bring me pine logs hither
Thou and I will see him dine
When we bear him thither.
ALL " Page and monarch forth they went
Forth they went together
Through the rude wind's wild lament
And the bitter weather
LADIES "Sire, the night is darker now
And the wind blows stronger
Fails my heart, I know not how,
I can go no longer."
MEN "Mark my footsteps, my good page
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly.
In his master's steps he trod
Where the snow lay dinted
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Saint had printed
Therefore, Christian men, be sure
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing
Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God the almighty Father.
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.
The celebrant continues with the Eucharistic prayer until we sing:
We all KNEEL as the Celebrant continues with the Eucharistic Prayer.
After the Lords words are said over the bread and the cup we use the following response:
The Mystery of Faith:
O come, let us adore him,
O come , let us adore him,
O come , let us adore him Christ the Lord.
At the end of prayer we all sing:
Amen.
Y
ea, Lord, we greet thee, present on this altar.
Jesu to thee be glory given.
Altar and Manger, one eternal moment
O Come let us adore him
THE LORDS PRAYER STAND
At the Saviours command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
For the Kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
Now and for ever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles: peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever.
Amen.
AGNUS DEI
COMMUNION
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
When offered the Host and the Chalice or when given a blessing the response is always:
Amen.
DURING HOLY COMMUNION
W
hat Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The
