ZECHARIAH, Most conservative scholars agree that the entire book of Zechariah was written by the prophet of that name, who identifies himself in the book's introduction as "the son of Berechiah" (1:1). But some scholars insist the second major section of the book, chapters 9-14, was written by an unknown author. These scholars believe this section was added to the book about 30 or 40 years after Zechariah the prophet wrote chapters 1-8.It is true that these two sections of the Book have their own unique characteristics. In the first section Zechariah encourages the people to finish the Temple, while in the second section he is more concerned about the glorious age of the future. The language and style of these two sections of Zechariah are also quite different. And the prophecies in these two sections seem to be set in different times.Chapters 1-8, Zechariah tells us, were delivered as prophecies "in the eighth month of the second year of Darius" (1:1), and "in the fourth year of King Darius" (7:1). These references to Darius I of Persia (ruled 521 BC - 486 BC) date these prophecies clearly from 520 to 518 B.C. But chapters 9-14 contain a reference to Greece (9:13), probably indicating it was written after 480 BC, when the balance of world power was shifting from the Persians to the Greeks. How can these major differences between these two sections of the book be explained unless we accept the theory that they were written by two different people?One possible explanation is that Zechariah was a young man when he delivered his prophecies in the first section of the book. The book itself contains a clue that this may have been the case. In one of his visions, two angels speak to one another about the prophet, referring to him as "this young man" (2:4). Thus, it is quite possible that Zechariah could have encouraged the Jewish captives in Jerusalem in the early part of his ministry and could have delivered the messages about the future, contained in the second section of the book, during his final years as a prophet.After all the evidence is examined, there is no convincing reason to dispute the traditional view that Zechariah the prophet wrote the entire book that bears his name. These prophecies were first delivered and then reduced to writing over a period of about 45 years - from 520 to 475 B.C.As for the prophet himself, very little is known about him beyond the few facts he reveals in his book. He was a descendant, perhaps the grandson, of Iddo the priest (1:1) one of the family leaders who retumed from the Captivity in Babylon (Neh 12:16). This means that Zechariah probably was a priest as well as a prophet-an

unusual circumstance because most of the prophets of Israel spoke out against the priestly class. Since he was a young man when he began to prophesy in 520 BC, Zechariah was probably born in Babylon while the Jewish people were in captivity. He probably retumed with his family with the first wave of captives who reached Jerusalem under Zerubbabel about 536 BC Historical Setting. The setting at the beginning of the Book is the same as the setting of the Book of Haggai. The prophet Haggai spoke directly to the issue of the rebuilding of the Temple, encouraging those who returned from captivity in Babylon to finish the task. Zechariah spoke to that issue as well, according to the Book of Ezra (Ezra 5:1). But Zechariah wished to bring about a complete spiritual renewal through faith and hope in God. He spoke about the nature of God's Law and of the hope which God promised to those who were faithful to Him.The second portion of Zechariah was written in the period between the times of the prophets Haggai (520 BC) and Malachi (450 BC). The Persian Empire was ruled by two great kings during these years, Darius I (522 BC - 486 BC) and Xerxes I (585 BC - 465 BC). This was a period when the Jewish people in Jerusalem were settled in their new land with a walled city and their beloved Temple. But they were unhappy and dissatisfied. Some of the people had expected that Zerubbabel, governor of Jerusalem, might be the Messiah, but this had proven to be false. The people needed a new word concerning God's future for them. This message from God was given in a most dramatic fashion by the great prophet Zechariah.(from Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Copyright (c)1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers) Zech 1:1-6In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, 2 "The LORD has been very angry with your fathers. 3 Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Return to Me," says the LORD of hosts, "and I will return to you," says the LORD of hosts. 4 "Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds."' But they did not hear nor heed Me," says the LORD. 5 "Your fathers, where are they?And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 Yet surely My words and My statutes,Which I commanded My servants the prophets,Did they not overtake your fathers?"So they returned and said:

'Just as the LORD of hosts determined to do to us,According to our ways and according to our deeds,So He has dealt with us.'"'"  “- In the second year of Darius the king. This is Darius Hystaspes, who reigned over Persia from B.C. 521 to B.C. 486. He is called in the inscriptions Daryavush, which name means "Holder," or "Supporter." Herodotus (6:98) explains it as "Coercer" Hitherto the prophets have dated the time of the exercise of their office from the reigns of the legitimate Hebrew monarchs; it shows a new slate of things when they place at the head of their oracles the name of a foreign and a heathen potentate. The Jews had, indeed, now no king of their own, "the tabernacle of David had fallen" (Amos 9:11), and they were living on sufferance under an alien power. They had returned from exile by permission of Cyrus in the first year of his occupancy of the throne of Babylon sixteen years before this time, and had commenced to build the temple soon after; but the opposition of neighbors, contradictory orders from the Persian court, and their own lukewarmness had contributed to hinder the work, and it soon wholly ceased, and remained suspended to the moment when Haggai, as the seventy years of desolation drew to an end, was commissioned to arouse them from their apathy, and to urge them to use the opportunity which was afforded by the accession of the new monarch and the withdrawal of the vexatious interdict that had checked their operations in the previous reign (from The Pulpit Commentary, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 2001 by Biblesoft) Jesus in Matt 23:35 states that Zechariah son of Berechiah was murdered by the Jews, but there is controversy if this is the prophet he is talking about because the only Zechariah in scripture recorded as murdered was the son of Jehoiada. 2 Chron 24:20-22

20 Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, "Thus says God:' Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, He also has forsaken you.'" 21 So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the LORD. 22 Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said, "The LORD look on it, and repay!"

 In Zech 1:4 the command “return to me” was because they had already fallen in sin. Look at Ezra’s response to the people’s sins.

 Ezra 9:1-4

When these things were done, the leaders came to me, saying, "The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, with respect to the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. 2 For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed is mixed with the peoples of those lands. Indeed, the hand of the leaders and rulers has been foremost in this trespass." 3 So when I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe, and plucked out some of the hair of my head and beard, and sat down astonished. 4 Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel assembled to me, because of the transgression of those who had been carried away captive, and I sat astonished until the evening sacrifice.

 Also look at a similar warning by Malachi.Mal 3:7

7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them.

Return to Me, and I will return to you,"Says the LORD of hosts."But you said,'In what way shall we return?'

 Vs 4 “former prophets” refers to before the captivity such as Jeremiah Jer 25:3-7

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, this is the twenty-third year in which the word of the LORD has come to me; and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, but you have not listened. 4 And the LORD has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear. 5 They said,' Repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers forever and ever. 6 Do not go after other gods to serve them and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you.' 7 Yet you have not listened to Me," says the LORD, "that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands to

your own hurt.  Vs 6 “ words and statutes overtake” is similar to Jer 39:16

6 "Go and speak to Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Behold, I will bring My words upon this city for adversity and not for good, and they shall be performed in that day before you.

 Zeph 2:2

2 Before the decree is issued,Or the day passes like chaff,Before the LORD's fierce anger comes upon you,Before the day of the LORD's anger comes upon you!

 Zech 1:7-11On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet: 8 I saw by night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and it stood among the myrtle trees in the hollow; and behind him were horses: red, sorrel, and white. 9 Then I said," My lord, what are these?" So the angel who talked with me said to me, "I will show you what they are." 10 And the man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, "These are the ones whom the LORD has sent to walk to and fro throughout the earth." 11 So they answered the Angel of the LORD, who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, "We have walked to and fro throughout the earth, and behold, all the earth is resting quietly."  Vs 8 -4 horses represent the 4 kingdoms of Dan 2.  Dan 2:36-40

36 "This is the dream. Now we will tell the interpretation of it before the king. 37 You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory; 38 and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all -- you are this head of gold. 39 But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks

in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others.

 Same meaning as 4 beasts Dan 7:1-8

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts.2 Daniel spoke, saying, "I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other. 4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man's heart was given to it. 5 "And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: 'Arise, devour much flesh!' 6 "After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it. 7 "After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. 8 I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.

 Ezek 1:4-12

4 Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. 5 Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man. 6 Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. 7 Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the soles of calves' feet. They sparkled like the color of burnished bronze. 8 The hands of a man were under their wings on their four sides; and each of the four had faces and wings. 9 Their wings touched one another. The creatures did not turn when they went, but each one went straight forward. 10 As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four

had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle. 11 Thus were their faces. Their wings stretched upward; two wings of each one touched one another, and two covered their bodies. 12 And each one went straight forward; they went wherever the spirit wanted to go, and they did not turn when they went.

 Ezek 10:9-15

9 And when I looked, there were four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel by one cherub and another wheel by each other cherub; the wheels appeared to have the color of a beryl stone. 10 As for their appearance, all four looked alike -- as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 11 When they went, they went toward any of their four directions; they did not turn aside when they went, but followed in the direction the head was facing. They did not turn aside when they went. 12 And their whole body, with their back, their hands, their wings, and the wheels that the four had, were full of eyes all around. 13 As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing, "Wheel." 14 Each one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, the second face the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

 Rev 4:6-7

6 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.

  In each scripture “four” refers to Babylon, Medes-Persians, Greeks, and Romans.Vs 11 “Angel of the Lord” Josh 5:13-15

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?" 14 So He said, "No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?"  15 Then the Commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, "Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy." And Joshua did so.

 

Zech 1:12-17Then the Angel of the LORD answered and said, "O LORD of hosts, how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You were angry these seventy years?" 13 And the LORD answered the angel who talked to me, with good and comforting words. 14 So the angel who spoke with me said to me, "Proclaim, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "I am zealous for JerusalemAnd for Zion with great zeal. 15 I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease;For I was a little angry,And they helped -- but with evil intent." 16'Therefore thus says the LORD: "I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy;My house shall be built in it," says the LORD of hosts,"And a surveyor's line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem."' 17 "Again proclaim, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts:"My cities shall again spread out through prosperity;The LORD will again comfort Zion,And will again choose Jerusalem."'"  “Seventy years” prophesied by Jeremiah Jer 25:11

11 And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

 Vs 15 “angry with the nations” similar to God’s rebuke of Assyria and Babylon for going beyond what God had given them. Isa 10:5-11

"Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hand is My indignation. 6 I will send him against an ungodly nation,And against the people of My wrath I will give him charge,To seize the spoil, to take the prey,And to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7 Yet he does not mean so,

Nor does his heart think so;But it is in his heart to destroy,And cut off not a few nations. 8 For he says,'Are not my princes altogether kings? 9 Is not Calno like Carchemish?Is not Hamath like Arpad?Is not Samaria like Damascus? 10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols,Whose carved images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria, 11 As I have done to Samaria and her idols,Shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols?'"

O daughter of the Chaldeans;For you shall no longer be called The Lady of Kingdoms. 6 I was angry with My people;I have profaned My inheritance,And given them into your hand.You showed them no mercy;On the elderly you laid your yoke very heavily. 7 And you said, 'I shall be a lady forever,'So that you did not take these things to heart,

Nor remember the latter end of them.  Vs 16 “I am returning to Jerusalem with Mercy “ has dual fulfillments- first when the temple was rebuilt when they entered the land and second when the spiritual kingdom came. Rev 21:1-4

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

 Zech 1:18-21Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were four horns. 19 And I said to the angel who talked with me, "What are these?" So he answered me, "These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem." 20 Then the LORD showed me four craftsmen. 21 And I said, "What are these coming to do?" So he said, "These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no one could lift up his head; but the craftsmen are coming to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it."  “Four horns” and “four craftsman” are the four kingdoms of Dan 2. Zech 2:1-5Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2 So I said, "Where are you going?" And he said to me, "To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length." 3 And there was the angel who talked with me, going out; and another angel was coming out to meet him, 4 who said to him, "Run, speak to this young man, saying: 'Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. 5 For I,' says the LORD, 'will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.'"  vs. 2 “to measure Jerusalem” is similar to 2 places in Revelation

Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.

15 And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.

 vs. 4 states Jerusalem shall be as “towns without walls” which means no fortified walls. Vs 5 “ God will be a wall of fire” Isa 60:19

"The sun shall no longer be your light by day,Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light,And your God your glory.

 Zech 2:6-9"Up, up! Flee from the land of the north," says the LORD; "for I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven," says the LORD. 7 "Up, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon." 8 For thus says the LORD of hosts: "He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye. 9 For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me.  Vs 6 is the opposite of what Jeremiah told them years earlier. Now it is time to go home. Jer 29:4-7

4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who were carried away captive, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit.

6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters -- that you may be increased there, and not diminished. 7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace.

 Vs 8. “apple of the eye” 

OT:892babah (baw-baw'); feminine active participle of an unused root meaning to hollow out; something hollowed (as a gate), i.e. pupil of the eye: KJV - apple [of the eye].

 Deut 32:10

10 "He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness;He encircled him, He instructed him,He kept him as the apple of His eye.

 This is a different Hebrew word

OT:380'iyshown (ee-shone'); diminutive from OT:376; the little man of the eye; the pupil or ball; hence, the middle (of night): KJV - apple [of the eye], black, obscure.

 Zech 2:10-1310 "Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," says the LORD. 11 "Many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. 12 And the LORD will take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD, for He is aroused from His holy habitation!"  Jesus was the promised coming one Matt 11:2-3

2 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 3 and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?"

 But the fulfillment of Zech 2:10 was to spiritual Israel and the promise of him dwelling in our midst. Matt 18:20

20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

 Rev 21:1-4

2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

 Vs 11 “many nations” is similar to earlier prophecies.  Isa 2:2-3

2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains,And shall be exalted above the hills;And all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say,"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,To the house of the God of Jacob;He will teach us His ways,And we shall walk in His paths."For out of Zion shall go forth the law,And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

 Mic 4:2

2 Many nations shall come and say,"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,To the house of the God of Jacob;He will teach us His ways,And we shall walk in His paths."

For out of Zion the law shall go forth,And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem

 

Vs 13 “be silent” is to give proper reverence to God Zeph 1:7

7 Be silent in the presence of the Lord GOD;For the day of the LORD is at hand,

For the LORD has prepared a sacrifice;He has invited His guests.

 Hab 2:20

"But the LORD is in His holy temple.Let all the earth keep silence before Him."   Zech 3:1-5Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 2 And the LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?" 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. 4 Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, "Take away the filthy garments from him." And to him He said, "See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes." 5 And I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head. "So they put a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him. And the Angel of the LORD stood by.  In vs. 2 “Satan” is used 61 times in the bible but only in 1Chron, Job, and Zechariah in the old testament and he is always in opposition to God’s children. 1 Chron 21:1-2

Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. 2 So David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, "Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring the number of them to me that I may know it."

 1 Thess 2:18

18 Therefore we wanted to come to you -- even I, Paul, time and again -- but Satan hindered us.

 Only the Lord has the right to rebuke satan. Jude 9

9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed

about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

 God plucked the remnant out of the fire, similar to Jude 22. Jude 22-23

22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

 Joshua the high priest having “filthy garments” is similar to Jesus ( or Joshua in Hebrew) bearing our sins. 2 Cor 5:21

21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

 Zech 3:6-10Then the Angel of the LORD admonished Joshua, saying, 7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:'If you will walk in My ways,And if you will keep My command,Then you shall also judge My house,And likewise have charge of My courts;I will give you places to walk Among these who stand here. 8'Hear, O Joshua, the high priest,You and your companions who sit before you,For they are a wondrous sign;For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH. 9 For behold, the stone That I have laid before Joshua:Upon the stone are seven eyes.Behold, I will engrave its inscription,'Says the LORD of hosts,'And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. 10 In that day,' says the LORD of hosts,'Everyone will invite his neighbor Under his vine and under his fig tree.'"  

Vs 6 the admonition to walk in my ways is the same as he gave to Solomon. Zech 3:6-7Then the Angel of the LORD admonished Joshua, saying, 7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:'If you will walk in My ways,And if you will keep My command,Then you shall also judge My house,And likewise have charge of My courts;I will give you places to walk Among these who stand here.  1 Kings 3:14

14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days."

 The promise that Joshua would judge his house is symbolic of Jesus being the judge. Acts 10:41-43

42 And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins."

 Rom 2:16

16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:

 Vs 8 “ the branch” Zech 3:88'Hear, O Joshua, the high priest,You and your companions who sit before you,For they are a wondrous sign;For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH.

 Jer 23:5-6

5 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD,"That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;A King shall reign and prosper,And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved,And Israel will dwell safely;Now this is His name by which He will be called:

 THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.  Isa 4:2-6

In that day the Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious; And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing For those of Israel who have escaped. 3 And it shall come to pass that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy -- everyone who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning, 5 then the LORD will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a covering. 6 And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.

 Vs 9 “the stone” refers to Jesus Zech 3:99 For behold, the stone That I have laid before Joshua:Upon the stone are seven eyes.Behold, I will engrave its inscription,'Says the LORD of hosts,'And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.  Isa 28:16

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:"Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation,A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation;

Whoever believes will not act hastily.  Ps 118:22

22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.

 Matt 21:42

42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures:'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.This was the LORD's doing,And it is marvelous in our eyes'?

 “seven eyes” represents the complete number and it is also in Rev Rev 5:6-7

6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

 Vs 9 “ remove the iniquity in one day” is the day of redemption. Luke 21:20-28

"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 25 "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads,

because your redemption draws near."   Eph 4:30

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

 Vs 10. “everyone will invite his neighbor” is from the prophecy of Micah. Zech 3:10

10 In that day,' says the LORD of hosts,'Everyone will invite his neighbor Under his vine and under his fig tree.'"

 Mic 4:1-5

Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And peoples shall flow to it. 2 Many nations shall come and say," Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths. "For out of Zion the law shall go forth, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 3 He shall judge between many peoples, And rebuke strong nations afar off; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.  4 But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree, And no one shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken. 5 For all people walk each in the name of his god, But we will walk in the name of the LORD our God Forever and ever.

 Zech 4:1-4Now the angel who talked with me came back and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep. 2 And he said to me, "What do you see?"So I said, "I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. 3 Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left." 4 So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, "What are these, my lord?"  This vision occurred in a dream similar to Daniel’s vision.  

Dan 8:18-2018 Now, as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me, and stood me upright. 19 And he said, "Look, I am making known to you what shall happen in the latter time of the indignation; for at the appointed time the end shall be.

 “Seven lamps” is similar to Revelation. Rev 1:12-13

12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.

 Zech 4:5-7

5 Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord." 6 So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:  'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,'  Says the LORD of hosts. 7'Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"'"

 Once again this has dual fulfillments- first with Zerubbabel and later with John the baptist. Isa 40:4-5

4 Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low;The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough places smooth; 5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed,And all flesh shall see it together;For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

 Luke 3:3-6

And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, 4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness:'Prepare the way of the LORD;

Make His paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low;The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'"

 Vs 77'Who are you, O great mountain?Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"'"  “capstone”OT:7222ro'shah (ro-shaw'); feminine of OT:7218; the head:KJV - head [-stone]. Similar to “cornerstone”OT:7218ro'sh (roshe); from an unused root apparently meaning to shake; the head (as most easily shaken), whether literal or figurative (in many applications, of place, time, rank, itc.): Ps 118:22

 Zech 4:8-108 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 9 "The hands of ZerubbabelHave laid the foundation of this temple; His hands shall also finish it.Then you will know That the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. 10 For who has despised the day of small things?For these seven rejoice to see The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.They are the eyes of the LORD,Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth."  “Plumb line” is only used here and in Amos.

 Amos 7:7-9

Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand. 8 And the LORD said to me, "Amos, what do you see?" And I said, "A plumb line." Then the Lord said:"Behold, I am setting a plumb line In the midst of My people Israel;I will not pass by them anymore. 9 The high places of Isaac shall be desolate,And the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.

I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam."  But the words in these two verses are not the same. In Zechariah OT:913bediyl (bed-eel'); from OT:914; alloy (because removed by smelting); by analogy, tin:KJV - plummet, tin. This word is used 6 times in the bible and everyplace else is translated “tin”. Num 31:22

Only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,  In Amos the word is: OT:594'anak (an-awk'); probably from an unused root meaning to be narrow; according to most a plumb-line, and to others a hook:KJV - plumb-line. This word is only used in Amos 7. Zech 4:10They are the eyes of the LORD,Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth."  God’s all knowing. 2 Chron 16:9

9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

 Zech 4:11-1411 Then I answered and said to him, "What are these two olive trees -- at the right of the lampstand and at its left?" 12 And I further answered and said to him, "What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?" 13 Then he answered me and said, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord." 14 So he said, "These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth."  Again dual fulfillments, first in Zerubbabel and in Joshua but also later in Revelation. Rev 11:1-6

Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. 3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." 4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. 5 And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. 6 These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.

 Who are these 2 witnesses? They are the Law and the prophets which gave light to Israel but also foretold the last days.  Matt 5:17-18

"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

 Luke 16:31

31 But he said to him,' If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.'"

 Acts 28:23

23 So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.

                        Zech 5:1-4Then I turned and raised my eyes, and saw there a flying scroll. 2 And he said to me, "What do you see?" So I answered, "I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits." 3 Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth: 'Every thief shall be expelled,' according to this side of the scroll; and, 'Every perjurer shall be expelled,' according to that side of it." 4 "I will send out the curse," says the LORD of hosts; "It shall enter the house of the thief

And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name.It shall remain in the midst of his house And consume it, with its timber and stones."  Probably the same scroll Ezekiel saw and John saw. Ezek 2:9-109 Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me; and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. 10 Then He spread it before me; and there was writing on the inside and on the outside, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe.  Rev 5:1-7And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?" 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. 4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. 5 But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals." 6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.  Zech 5:2So I answered, "I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits." The size of the scroll is the same size as the vestibule of the most holy place 1 Kings 6:33 The vestibule in front of the sanctuary of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the width of the vestibule extended ten cubits from the front of the house Zech 5:33 Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth:

 Deut 29:23-2823'The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger and His wrath.' 24 All nations would say,' Why has the LORD done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?' 25 Then people would say: 'Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt; 26 for they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that He had not given to them. 27 Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against this land, to bring on it every curse that is written in this book. 28 And the LORD uprooted them from their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.'  Dan 9:1111 Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him. Zech 5:4And consume it, with its timber and stones." Deut 4:23-24 24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.   Mal 3:22 "But who can endure the day of His coming?And who can stand when He appears?For He is like a refiner's fire And like launderers' soap.  Matt 3:11-1211 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."  

Zech 5:5-11Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me, "Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth." 6 So I asked, "What is it?" And he said, "It is a basket that is going forth." He also said, "This is their resemblance throughout the earth: 7 Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this is a woman sitting inside the basket"; 8 then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he thrust her down into the basket, and threw the lead cover over its mouth. 9 Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven. 10 So I said to the angel who talked with me, "Where are they carrying the basket?" 11 And he said to me, "To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base. Vs 6 “basket” is literally “ephah” OT:374'eyphah (ay-faw'); or (shortened) 'ephah (ay-faw'); of Egyptian derivation; an ephah or measure for grain; hence, a measure in general: “Earth” is literally “land” OT:776'erets (eh'-rets); from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):  Vs 7 “ the woman” is Jerusalem. Isa 1:21How the faithful city has become a harlot!It was full of justice;Righteousness lodged in it,But now murderers.  Rev 17:1-6Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication." 3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a

scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.  6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.  Matt 23:31-391 "Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers' guilt. 33 Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? 34 Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, 35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. 37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate; 39 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!'"  Zech 5:1111 And he said to me, "To build a house for it in the land of Shinar;  OT:8152Shin` ar (shin-awr'); probably of foreign derivation; Shinar, a plain in Babylonia: Israel was not going back to physical Babylon, it had already been conquered by the Medes and Persians. This is talking about spiritual Babylon which was Jerusalem. Rev 17:5. Zech 6:1-8Then I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of

bronze. 2 With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, 3 with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses -- strong steeds. 4 Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, "What are these, my lord?" 5 And the angel answered and said to me," These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them, and the dappled are going toward the south country." 7 Then the strong steeds went out, eager to go, that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth. And He said, "Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth." So they walked to and fro throughout the earth. 8 And He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, "See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country."  Once again the “four” are the four great kingdoms of Daniel 2 which is seen in Ezekiel, Zechariah, and Revelation. The “two mountains” is seen in chapter 14.  Zech 14:44 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,Which faces Jerusalem on the east.And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,From east to west,Making a very large valley;Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.  Joel 3:1616 The LORD also will roar from Zion,And utter His voice from Jerusalem;The heavens and earth will shake;But the LORD will be a shelter for His people,And the strength of the children of Israel.  Zech 6:2-32 With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, 3 with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses -- “Red” indicates punishment Isa 63:2-4

2 Why is Your apparel red,And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress? 3 "I have trodden the winepress alone,And from the peoples no one was with Me.For I have trodden them in My anger,And trampled them in My fury;Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments,And I have stained all My robes. 4 For the day of vengeance is in My heart,And the year of My redeemed has come.  Rev 6:44 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. “Black” is mourning Jer 4:288 For this shall the earth mourn,And the heavens above be black,Because I have spoken.I have purposed and will not relent,Nor will I turn back from it.  Rev 6:5When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come and see." So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. “White” is purity. Rev 19:11Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. “Dappled” is combination of all. Now if these horses refer to the 4 kingdoms then the “dappled” on is Rome which is similar to Daniel’s vision. Dan 2:40-4540 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in

pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold -- the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."  Zech 6:55 And the angel answered and said to me, "These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth.  Dan 7:22 Daniel spoke, saying, "I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. Zech 6:66 The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them, and the dappled are going toward the south country."  The “north” is Rome and the “south” is Egypt. Dan 11:5-6"Also the king of the South shall become strong, as well as one of his princes; and he shall gain power over him and have dominion. His dominion shall be a great dominion. 6 And at the end of some years they shall join forces, for the daughter of the king of the South shall go to the king of the North to make an agreement; but she shall not retain the power of her authority, Cleopatra and Marc Anthony Isa 30:6-7

6 The burden against the beasts of the South.Through a land of trouble and anguish,From which came the lioness and lion,The viper and fiery flying serpent,They will carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys,And their treasures on the humps of camels,To a people who shall not profit; 7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose.Therefore I have called her Rahab-Hem-Shebeth. Zech 6:9-13Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 10 "Receive the gift from the captives -- from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come from Babylon -- and go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah. 11 Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. 12 Then speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying:"Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH!From His place He shall branch out,And He shall build the temple of the LORD; 13 Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD.He shall bear the glory,And shall sit and rule on His throne;So He shall be a priest on His throne,And the counsel of peace shall be between them both."'  “Joshua “ the high priest will also be king and set on his throne. This can only be fulfilled in Jesus (or Joshua in Hebrew) Ps 110:4-74 The LORD has sworn And will not relent,"You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." 5 The Lord is at Your right hand;He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He shall judge among the nations,He shall fill the places with dead bodies,He shall execute the heads of many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook by the wayside;

Therefore He shall lift up the head.  Heb 6:19-7:319 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek7:1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, meaning "king of peace," 3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.  Zech 6:12"Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH!From His place He shall branch out,And He shall build the temple of the LORD; Isa 4:2-6In that day the Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious;And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing For those of Israel who have escaped. 3 And it shall come to pass that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy -- everyone who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning, 5 then the LORD will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a covering. 6 And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.  Isa 11:1-2There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,The Spirit of counsel and might,The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.  

Jer 23:5-75 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD,"That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;A King shall reign and prosper,And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved,And Israel will dwell safely;Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.  Zech 6:1313 Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD.He shall bear the glory,And shall sit and rule on His throne;So He shall be a priest on His throne,And the counsel of peace shall be between them both."'  Spiritual temple -the church 1 Peter 2:4-6Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,"Behold, I lay in ZionA chief cornerstone, elect, precious,And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."  Eph 2:19-22Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.  Vs 13 “ bear the glory” Heb 2:9

9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.  Isa 9:6-76 For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given;And the government will be upon His shoulder.And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end,Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever.The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.  Zech 6:15 15 Even those from afar shall come and build the temple of the LORD.  Eph 2:13-1813 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.  John 1:12-1312 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  Zech 6:15And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your

God."  Mal 4:1-3"For behold, the day is coming,Burning like an oven,And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.And the day which is coming shall burn them up,"Says the LORD of hosts,"That will leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings;And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves. 3 You shall trample the wicked,For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this,"Says the LORD of hosts.  Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.  2 Tim 2:11-1311 This is a faithful saying:For if we died with Him,We shall also live with Him. 12 If we endure,We shall also reign with Him.If we deny Him,He also will deny us. 13 If we are faithless,He remains faithful;He cannot deny Himself.       

   Zech 7:1-7Now in the fourth year of King Darius it came to pass that the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, on the fourth day of the ninth month, Chislev, 2 when the people sent Sherezer, with Regem-Melech and his men, to the house of God, to pray before the LORD, 3 and to ask the priests who were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and the prophets, saying, "Should I weep in the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?" 4 Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, 5 "Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me -- for Me? 6 When you eat and when you drink, do you not eat and drink for yourselves? 7 Should you not have obeyed the words which the LORD proclaimed through the former prophets when Jerusalem and the cities around it were inhabited and prosperous, and the South and the Lowland were inhabited?'"  This fast of the 5th month was not commanded by God but was in remembrance of when the temple was destroyed. 2 Kings 25:8-98 And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month (which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. 9 He burned the house of the LORD and the king's house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire. The only fast they kept before that was the 7th month. Lev 23:26-32And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 27 "Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. 28 And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29 For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people. 30 And any person who does any work on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people. 31 You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32 It shall be to you a sabbath of

solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath."  Zech 7:6-76 When you eat and when you drink, do you not eat and drink for yourselves? 7 Should you not have obeyed the words which the LORD proclaimed through the former prophets when Jerusalem and the cities around it were inhabited and prosperous, and the South and the Lowland were inhabited?'"  Similar to Samuel’s words to Saul 1 Sam 15:22-2322 So Samuel said:"Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,As in obeying the voice of the LORD?Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,He also has rejected you from being king."  Zech 7:8-14Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, 9 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:'Execute true justice,Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,The alien or the poor.Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.' 11 But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. 13 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen," says the LORD of hosts. 14 "But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land became desolate after them, so that no one passed through or returned; for they made the

pleasant land desolate."  These commandments of how to live were not new! Ex 23:6-86 "You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute. 7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. 8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.  Isa 1:1717 Learn to do good;Seek justice,Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless,Plead for the widow.  Jer 7:5-75 "For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor, 6 if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt, 7 then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.  Mic 2:1Woe to those who devise iniquity,And work out evil on their beds! Zech 7:11-1211 But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. The Jews never changed even after 70 years of captivity. Neh 9:2929 And testified against them,That You might bring them back to Your law.Yet they acted proudly,And did not heed Your commandments,

But sinned against Your judgments,'Which if a man does, he shall live by them.' And they shrugged their shoulders,Stiffened their necks,And would not hear.  Zech 7:13-1413 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen," says the LORD of hosts.  Prov 1:24-264 Because I have called and you refused,I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 Because you disdained all my counsel,And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity;I will mock when your terror comes,  Isa 65:1212 Therefore I will number you for the sword,And you shall all bow down to the slaughter;Because, when I called, you did not answer;When I spoke, you did not hear,But did evil before My eyes,And chose that in which I do not delight."   Zech 7:13-14 14 "But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Zech 7:14Scattered them with a whirlwind; Septuagint, <START GREEK>e)kbalw= au)tou/$<END GREEK>, "I will cast them out;" Vulgate, dispersi eos (from The Pulpit Commentary, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 2001 by Biblesoft) This is in the future! The nation they have not known was Rome. Deut 28:33-3433 A nation whom you have not known shall eat the fruit of your land and the

produce of your labor, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually.  Deut 28:49-5049 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand,  Dan 2:39-40 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. Zech 8:1-3Again the word of the LORD of hosts came, saying, 2 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'I am zealous for Zion with great zeal; With great fervor I am zealous for her.' 3 "Thus says the LORD: 'I will return to Zion,And dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, The Mountain of the LORD of hosts, The Holy Mountain.'  Look at the promise of God dwelling in their midst. Zeph 3:13-1813 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies,Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth;For they shall feed their flocks and lie down,And no one shall make them afraid." 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel!Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,O daughter of Jerusalem! 15 The LORD has taken away your judgments,He has cast out your enemy.The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst;You shall see disaster no more. 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:"Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak. 17 The LORD your God in your midst,The Mighty One, will save;He will rejoice over you with gladness,He will quiet you with His love,He will rejoice over you with singing."

 Ezek 37:24-2824 "David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. 25 Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children's children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever. 26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. 27 My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 28 The nations also will know that I, the LORD, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore."'"  Rev 21:1-4Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."  Zech 8:33 "Thus says the LORD: 'I will return to Zion,And dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth,The Mountain of the LORD of hosts,The Holy Mountain.'  The Holy Mountain had been foretold by Isaiah, Micah, and Daniel. Isa 2:1-4The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains,

And shall be exalted above the hills;And all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say,"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,To the house of the God of Jacob;He will teach us His ways,And we shall walk in His paths."For out of Zion shall go forth the law,And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 He shall judge between the nations,And rebuke many people;They shall beat their swords into plowshares,And their spears into pruning hooks;Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,Neither shall they learn war anymore.  Mic 4:1-2Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains,And shall be exalted above the hills;And peoples shall flow to it. 2 Many nations shall come and say,"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,To the house of the God of Jacob;He will teach us His ways,And we shall walk in His paths."For out of Zion the law shall go forth,And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.  Dan 2:43-45 44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold -- the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."  Zech 8:4-8

4 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:'Old men and old women shall again sit In the streets of Jerusalem,Each one with his staff in his hand Because of great age. 5 The streets of the city Shall be full of boys and girls Playing in its streets.' 6 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:'If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days,Will it also be marvelous in My eyes?'Says the LORD of hosts. 7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:'Behold, I will save My people from the land of the east And from the land of the west; 8 I will bring them back,And they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.They shall be My people And I will be their God,In truth and righteousness.'  What ‘remnant” is he talking about? He has already brought back the remnant from captivity. He is talking about the spiritual remnant - the church. Rom 11:5 5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. The picture of the old men and the children is a symbol of joy that is in the new kingdom. Isa 65:17-20"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing,And her people a joy. 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem,And joy in My people;The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her,

Nor the voice of crying. 20 "No more shall an infant from there live but a few days,Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days;For the child shall die one hundred years old,But the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed.  When was this new heavens and new earth going to be completed? Jesus tells us all things written would be fulfilled at the destruction of Jerusalem. Luke 21:20-24"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.  He goes on to put this fulfillment in that generation.  Luke 21:32-3332 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.  2 Peter 3:10-13But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  Rev 21:1-4Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth

had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."  Zech 8:9-109 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Let your hands be strong,You who have been hearing in these days These words by the mouth of the prophets,Who spoke in the day the foundation was laid For the house of the LORD of hosts, That the temple might be built. 10 For before these days There were no wages for man nor any hire for beast; There was no peace from the enemy for whoever went out or came in;For I set all men, everyone, against his neighbor. 11 But now I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days,' says the LORD of hosts. 12'For the seed shall be prosperous,The vine shall give its fruit, The ground shall give her increase,And the heavens shall give their dew -- I will cause the remnant of this people To possess all these. 13 And it shall come to pass That just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, So I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Do not fear,Let your hands be strong.'  Vs 12 “possess” means to inherit just as promised to Daniel. Dan 12:13"But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days." Rev 21:77 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son Zech 8:14-1714 "For thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Just as I determined to punish you When your fathers provoked Me to wrath,' Says the LORD of hosts,'And I would not relent, 15 So again in these days I am determined to do good To

Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear. 16 These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor;Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace; 17 Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor;And do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate,'Says the LORD."  Similar to Paul’s admonition to the Ephesians Eph 4:25-32Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another. 26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil. 28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. 29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.  Zech 8:18-2218 Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, 19 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth,The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth, Shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.' 20 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Peoples shall yet come,Inhabitants of many cities; 21 The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, "Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD, And seek the LORD of hosts. I myself will go also." 22 Yes, many peoples and strong nations Shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, And to pray before the LORD.'  All these fasts were times of mourning which God promises to turn to joy in the new kingdom. Contrast that with Amos. Amos 8:1010 I will turn your feasts into mourning,And all your songs into lamentation;I will bring sackcloth on every waist,And baldness on every head;

I will make it like mourning for an only son,And its end like a bitter day.  Vs 22 foretells of Gentiles being brought in. Isa 2:2-32 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains,And shall be exalted above the hills;And all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say,"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,To the house of the God of Jacob;He will teach us His ways,And we shall walk in His paths."For out of Zion shall go forth the law,And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.  John 10:1616 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.  Zech 8:2323 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."'"  The number 10 is a complete number and is always used figuratively. Gen 31:7 7 Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me. Lev 26:2626 When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall bring back your bread by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.  1 Sam 1:8

Then Elkanah her husband said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved?  Zech 9:7But he who remains, even he shall be for our God,And shall be like a leader in Judah,And Ekron like a Jebusite.   Zech 9:7 But it is rot easy to discover the exact historical fulfilment of the latter part of this prophecy, concerning the merging of the Philistines in the Jewish nation. Josephus ('Ant.,' 13:15. 4) tells us that, about B.C. 100, the Jews held most of their cities, destroying some whose inhabitants refused to become proselytes. Because of the blood of your covenant,I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. The waterless pit is the grave, Hades, that he promises to free. I find it interesting that no commentator sees this as a promise of resurrection. Ps 30:33 O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave;You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.  Ps 49:1515 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave,For He shall receive me Ezek 32:2323 Her graves are set in the recesses of the Pit,And her company is all around her grave,All of them slain, fallen by the sword,Who caused terror in the land of the living.  Hos 13:1414 "I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death.O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes."  1 Peter 3:18-20For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,  What did Jesus preach? That their time of redemption is coming soon. Rev 6:9-11When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Rev 14:1313 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write: 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.'""Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them."  Zech 9:1212 Return to the stronghold,You prisoners of hope.Even today I declare That I will restore double to you.  This hope was the hope of Israel. Acts 26:6-76 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers.  Acts 28:20 20 For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak with you, because for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain."  Zech 9:1313 For I have bent Judah, My bow,Fitted the bow with Ephraim,And raised up your sons, O Zion,Against your sons, O Greece,And made you like the sword of a mighty man."  Greece is mentioned by name only in Zechariah and in Daniel. Dan 8:21-22And the male goat is the kingdom of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes is the first king. 22 As for the broken horn and the four that stood up in its place, four kingdoms shall arise out of that nation, but not with its power.    Dan 10:2020 Then he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to

fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come Dan 11:1-4 2 And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. 3 Then a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 4 And when he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken up and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not among his posterity nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be uprooted, even for others besides these.  Zech 9:1313 For I have bent Judah, My bow,Fitted the bow with Ephraim,And raised up your sons, O Zion,Against your sons, O Greece,And made you like the sword of a mighty man."  This possibly referring to the Maccabean revolt. But that does not fit with the context of the promise of resurrection and judgment. Zech 9:14-1514 Then the LORD will be seen over them,And His arrow will go forth like lightning.The Lord GOD will blow the trumpet,And go with whirlwinds from the south. 15 The LORD of hosts will defend them;They shall devour and subdue with slingstones.They shall drink and roar as if with wine;They shall be filled with blood like basins,Like the corners of the altar.  The Lord will be seen is foretold in other scriptures.  Isa 33:17Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;They will see the land that is very far off. 

Isa 40:55 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed,And all flesh shall see it together;For the mouth of the LORD has spoken." Matt 16:28Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."  Matt 23:399 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!'"  1 Peter 1:6-96 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. The like of whom has never been;Nor will there ever be any such after them,Even for many successive generations.  Zeph 1:14-1614 The great day of the LORD is near;It is near and hastens quickly.The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter;There the mighty men shall cry out. 15 That day is a day of wrath,A day of trouble and distress,A day of devastation and desolation,A day of darkness and gloominess,A day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 A day of trumpet and alarm Against the fortified cities And against the high towers.  Matt 24:30-3130 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.  1 Cor 15:5252 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.1 Thess 4:15-18. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.  Zech 9:15-1715 The LORD of hosts will defend them;They shall devour and subdue with slingstones.They shall drink and roar as if with wine;They shall be filled with blood like basins,Like the corners of the altar.

16 The LORD their God will save them in that day,As the flock of His people.For they shall be like the jewels of a crown,Lifted like a banner over His land -- 17 For how great is its goodness And how great its beauty!Grain shall make the young men thrive,And new wine the young women.  The Lord will save in that day- the judgment day! Ps 69:35-3635 For God will save ZionAnd build the cities of Judah,That they may dwell there and possess it. 36 Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it,And those who love His name shall dwell in it.  Isa 33:2222(For the LORD is our Judge,The LORD is our Lawgiver,The LORD is our King;He will save us);  Matt 1:211 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." Rom 13:11-12And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The LORD will make flashing clouds;He will give them showers of rain,Grass in the field for everyone. 2 For the idols speak delusion;The diviners envision lies,And tell false dreams;They comfort in vain.Therefore the people wend their way like sheep;

They are in trouble because there is no shepherd. 3 "My anger is kindled against the shepherds,And I will punish the goatherds.For the LORD of hosts will visit His flock,The house of Judah,And will make them as His royal horse in the battle. 4 From him comes the cornerstone,From him the tent peg,From him the battle bow,From him every ruler together.  Vs 3 warnings against the shepherds. Ezek 34:1-2And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds:" Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Vs 4 “ the cornerstone” Isa 28:16-17"Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation,A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation;Whoever believes will not act hastily. 17 Also I will make justice the measuring line,And righteousness the plummet; Matt 21:42Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures:'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.This was the LORD's doing,And it is marvelous in our eyes'? Eph 2:2020 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, Zech 10:5-7

5 They shall be like mighty men,Who tread down their enemiesIn the mire of the streets in the battle.They shall fight because the LORD is with them,And the riders on horses shall be put to shame. 6 "I will strengthen the house of Judah,And I will save the house of Joseph.I will bring them back,Because I have mercy on them.They shall be as though I had not cast them aside;For I am the LORD their God,And I will hear them. 7 Those of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man,And their heart shall rejoice as if with wine.Yes, their children shall see it and be glad;Their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.  Mic 2:12-13I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob,I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;I will put them together like sheep of the fold, Like a flock in the midst of their pasture;They shall make a loud noise because of so many people. 13 The one who breaks open will come up before them;They will break out,Pass through the gate,And go out by it;Their king will pass before them,With the LORD at their head."  Zech 10:10-1210 I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt,And gather them from Assyria.I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon,Until no more room is found for them. 11 He shall pass through the sea with affliction,And strike the waves of the sea:All the depths of the River shall dry up.Then the pride of Assyria shall be brought down,And the scepter of Egypt shall depart.

12 "So I will strengthen them in the LORD,And they shall walk up and down in His name,"Says the LORD.  Mic 4:55 For all people walk each in the name of his god,But we will walk in the name of the LORD our GodForever and ever.  Zech 11:1-3Open your doors, O Lebanon,That fire may devour your cedars. 2 Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen,Because the mighty trees are ruined.Wail, O oaks of Bashan,For the thick forest has come down. 3 There is the sound of wailing shepherds!For their glory is in ruins.There is the sound of roaring lions!For the pride of the Jordan is in ruins.  Zech 11:1-3 Some by Lebanon here understand the temple, which was built of cedars from Lebanon, and the stones of it white as the snow of Lebanon. It was burnt with fire by the Romans, and its gates were forced open by the fury of the soldiers. To confirm this, they tell a story, that forty years before the destruction of the second temple the gates of it opened of their own accord, upon which prodigy Rabbi Johanan made this remark (as it is found in one of the Jewish authors), "Now I know," said he, "that the destruction of the temple is at hand, according to the prophecy of Zechariah, Open thy doors, O Lebanon! that the fire may devour thy cedars." "But indeed I will give everyone into his neighbor's hand and into the hand of his king. They shall attack the land, and I will

not deliver them from their hand."  Ps 44:2222 Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long;We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  John 10:11-1511 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.  Zech 11:7-127 So I fed the flock for slaughter, in particular the poor of the flock. I took for myself two staffs: the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bonds; and I fed the flock. 8 I dismissed the three shepherds in one month. My soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me. 9 Then I said, "I will not feed you. Let what is dying die, and what is perishing perish. Let those that are left eat each other's flesh." 10 And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two, that I might break the covenant which I had made with all the peoples. 11 So it was broken on that day. Thus the poor of the flock, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the LORD. 12 Then I said to them, "If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain." So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.  “ I dismissed the three shepherds” causes a lot of difficulty for all the commentators that I researched. I think Josephus in Wars 5:6:1 explains the three factions of Jews in the city led by John of Gischala, Simon son of Cathlas, and Jacob son of Sosas may best explain this. Zech 11:10-1110 And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two, that I might break the covenant which I had made with all the peoples. 11 So it was broken on that day.  The old covenant was not done away with at the cross as so many believe. It was done away with when God destroyed Jerusalem. Isa 25:7-97 And He will destroy on this mountain

The surface of the covering cast over all people,And the veil that is spread over all nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever,And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces;The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth;For the LORD has spoken. 9 And it will be said in that day:"Behold, this is our God;We have waited for Him, and He will save us.This is the LORD;We have waited for Him;We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation."  Paul explains “the veil” to be the old law. 2 Cor 3:15-1615 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. He explains earlier in the chapter.2 Cor 3:7-11But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10 For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11 For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.  It was passing away not passed away! Heb 12:25-29See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, "Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven." 27 Now this, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.  Zech 11:1313 And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter" -- that princely price they set on me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD for the potter. Here 30 pieces of silver was a “princely price” but under the law it was the price of a slave. Ex 21:322 If the ox gores a male or female servant, he shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.  Quoted by Matthew as being written by Jeremiah.  Matt 27:6-106 But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood." 7 And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced, 10 and gave them for the potter's field, as the LORD directed me."  Matthew Henry best explains this apparent mistake. Matt 27:1-10The Syriac version, which is ancient, reads only, It was spoken by the prophet, not naming any, whence some have thought that Jeremy was added by some scribe; some think that the whole volume of the prophets, being in one book, and the prophecy of Jeremiah put first, it might not be improper, currente calamo-for a transcriber to quote any passage out of that volume, under his name.(from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible: New Modern Edition, Electronic Database. The only field mentioned in Jeremiah was not a potters field. Jer 32:6-76 And Jeremiah said, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 7'Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, "Buy my field which is in Anathoth, for the right of redemption is yours to buy it." Zech 11:15-1715 And the LORD said to me, "Next, take for yourself the implements of a foolish shepherd. 16 For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in pieces. 17 "Woe to the worthless shepherd,Who leaves the flock!A sword shall be against his arm And against his right eye;His arm shall completely wither,And his right eye shall be totally blinded."  Similar to Ezekiel’s prophecy Ezek 34:1-6And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds: "Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock. 4 The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them. 5 So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered. 6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them."  John 10:12-1612 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not

care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.  Zech 12:1-6The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: 2 "Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. 3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. 4 In that day," says the LORD,"I will strike every horse with confusion, and its rider with madness; I will open My eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. 5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, 'The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the LORD of hosts, their God.' 6 In that day I will make the governors of Judah like a firepan in the woodpile, and like a fiery torch in the sheaves; they shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place -- Jerusalem.  Isa 51:17Awake, awake!Stand up, O Jerusalem,You who have drunk at the hand of the LORDThe cup of His fury;You have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling,And drained it out.  Luke 21:2424 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. Zech 12:7-97 "The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall not become greater than that of Judah. 8 In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of

David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. 9 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.  Ex 14:1919 And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. Zech 12:10-14"And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 And the land shall mourn, every family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14 all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves.  Ezek 39:299 And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,' says the Lord GOD."  Joel 2:28-29"And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,Your old men shall dream dreams,Your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.  “They will look on me whom they pierced” 1 Cor 2:7-87 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.  

Matt 26:63-64And the high priest answered and said to Him,"I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!" 64 Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."  Rev 1:77 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. “Megiddo” is the same as Armageddon in Revelation. Rev 16:1616 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.  NT:717Harmageddon (har-mag-ed-dohn'); of Hebrew origin [OT:2022 and OT:4023]; Armageddon (or Har-Meggiddon), a symbol. name:KJV - Armageddon. OT:4023Megiddown (Zech 12:11) (meg-id-done'); or Megiddow (meg-id-do'); from OT:1413; rendezvous; Megiddon or Megiddo, a place in Palestine:KJV - Megiddo, Megiddon. MEGIDDOmuh GID doe] (place of troops) - a walled city in the Carmel Mountain range where many important battles were fought in Old Testament times (see Map 3, B-2). Megiddo was situated on the main road that linked Egypt and Syria. Overlooking the Valley of Jezreel (Plain of Esdraelon), Megiddo was the most strategic city in Palestine. Josephus Wars 5:5:1 Zech 13:1

"In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.  Something that we have missed through the years was that the salvation promised was to come when he destroyed Jerusalem. Rom 13:11-12And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.  2 Tim 2:10-1310 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 This is a faithful saying:For if we died with Him,We shall also live with Him. 12 If we endure,We shall also reign with Him.If we deny Him,He also will deny us. 13 If we are faithless,He remains faithful;He cannot deny Himself.  Heb 1:1414 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?  Heb 9:2828 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.  1 Peter 1:3-5Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.  

They were waiting for salvation but look when Jesus said it would come-in that generation!  Luke 21:20-33"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 25 "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near." 29 Then He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.  Now look at the fulfillment. Rev 12:10-1110 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.  Zech 13:2-32 "It shall be in that day," says the LORD of hosts, "that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they shall no longer be remembered. I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land. 3 It shall come to pass that if anyone still prophesies, then his father and mother who begot him will

say to him, 'You shall not live, because you have spoken lies in the name of the LORD.' And his father and mother who begot him shall thrust him through when he prophesies. There are 2 prophecies here- prophecy shall end and demon possession shall end. Let’s look at prophecy ending. Dan 9:2424 "Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city,To finish the transgression,To make an end of sins,To make reconciliation for iniquity,To bring in everlasting righteousness,To seal up vision and prophecy,And to anoint the Most Holy.  At the end of the 70 weeks for Daniel’s people vision and prophecy would cease. 1 Cor 13:8-108 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.  Paul says that when that is perfect or complete comes which is the kingdom there will be no more spiritual gifts.Now lets look at the removal of unclean spirits. I used to believe that demon possession ended when Christ was resurrected but that does not explain how there were still demons in the book of Acts. Acts 19:11-16Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches." 14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" 16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house

naked and wounded. Let’s look at the time appointed for the removal of demons. Matt 8:28-29When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"  Lets look at “the time” NT:2540kairos (kahee-ros'); of uncertain affinity; an occasion, i.e. set or proper time: NT:5550chronos (khron'-os); of uncertain derivation; a space of time (in general, and thus properly distinguished from NT:2540, which designates a fixed or special occasion; The appointed time was prophesied through out the bible. It is often referred to as “ the end” Deut 32:2020 And He said: 'I will hide My face from them,I will see what their end will be,For they are a perverse generation,Children in whom is no faith. Deut 32:2929 Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this,That they would consider their latter end! Isa 10:2323 For the Lord GOD of hosts Will make a determined end In the midst of all the land. Dan 8:16-17 17 So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was afraid and fell on my face; but he said to me, "Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end." Dan 12:4

4 "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase." Dan 12:9-109 And he said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Matt 13:39-4139 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.Matt 24:1414 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. 1 Peter 4:7-8But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.  Rom 16:2020 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. Revelation tells us when demon possession ended. Rev 20:1010 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.  Zech 13:4-64 "And it shall be in that day that every prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he prophesies; they will not wear a robe of coarse hair to deceive. 5 But he will say, 'I am no prophet, I am a farmer; for a man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.' 6 And one will say to him, 'What are these wounds between your arms?' Then he will answer, 'Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.' 7 "Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,Against the Man who is My Companion,"Says the LORD of hosts."Strike the Shepherd,And the sheep will be scattered;Then I will turn My hand against the little ones. 8 And it shall come to pass in all the land,"Says the LORD,

"That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die,But one-third shall be left in it: 9 I will bring the one-third through the fire,Will refine them as silver is refined,And test them as gold is tested.They will call on My name,And I will answer them.I will say, 'This is My people';And each one will say, 'The LORD is my God.'"  Jesus quotes this and applies it to himself. Matt 26:31Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:'I will strike the Shepherd,And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'  Matt 26:5656 But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled."Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.  Vs 9 bringing through the fire purifies them. Dan 12:9-10 10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. Mal 3:33 He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;He will purify the sons of Levi,And purge them as gold and silver,That they may offer to the LORDAn offering in righteousness.  1 Peter 1:6-96 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen

you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith -- the salvation of your souls.  “Calling on the name of the Lord” began early. Gen 4:2626 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the LORD.  And it is prophesied to occur again Zeph 3:99 "For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language,That they all may call on the name of the LORD,To serve Him with one accord.  Zech 14:1-2Behold, the day of the LORD is coming,And your spoil will be divided in your midst. 2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem;The city shall be taken,The houses rifled,And the women ravished.Half of the city shall go into captivity,But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.  According to Josephus Wars 2: 3:1 when Vespasian was sent by Nero to destroy the Jews , he came to Syria and gathered reinforcements from the kings in the surrounding area and in 6:9:3 97,000 were carried captive and 110,000 died.  Zech 14:3-53 Then the LORD will go forth And fight against those nations,As He fights in the day of battle. 4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,Which faces Jerusalem on the east.And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,From east to west,

Making a very large valley;Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south. 5 Then you shall flee through My mountain valley,For the mountain valley shall reach to Azal.Yes, you shall flee As you fled from the earthquake In the days of Uzziah king of Judah.Thus the LORD my God will come,And all the saints with You.  The Lord going forth is his coming in judgment on Israel Isa 26:2121 For behold, the LORD comes out of His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity;The earth will also disclose her blood,And will no more cover her slain.  God provided a way of escape to the mountains for his faithful just as Jesus instructed. Matt 24:15-17"Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.  Zech 14:5Thus the LORD my God will come,And all the saints with You.  The promise of his coming and bringing the saints with him. Matt 24:30-3130 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.  

1 Thess 4:15-1615 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Zech 14:6-96 It shall come to pass in that day That there will be no light;The lights will diminish. 7 It shall be one day Which is known to the LORD --Neither day nor night.But at evening time it shall happen That it will be light. 8 And in that day it shall be That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem,Half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea;In both summer and winter it shall occur. 9 And the LORD shall be King over all the earth.In that day it shall be --"The LORD is one," And His name one.  “No light” is similar to prophesies about sun, moon, and stars which refers to removal of their leaders. Joel 3:1515 The sun and moon will grow dark,And the stars will diminish their brightness. Matt 24:29-30"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  Rev 6:12-14I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. 13

And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.  Zech 14:88 And in that day it shall be That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem,Half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea;In both summer and winter it shall occur.  “living waters” John 4:10-1410 Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." 11 The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?" 13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."  John 7:37-39On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.  Zech 14:99 And the LORD shall be King over all the earth.In that day it shall be --"The LORD is one, "And His name one.  “over the land” OT:776'erets (eh'-rets); from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):

Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Benjamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king's winepresses. 11 The people shall dwell in it;And no longer shall there be utter destruction,But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.  “The curse” will be removed. Isa 43:2828 Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary;I will give Jacob to the curse,And Israel to reproaches.   Rev 22:3-53 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. 4 They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. 5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And raise his hand against his neighbor's hand; 14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem.And the wealth of all the surrounding nations Shall be gathered together:Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. 15 Such also shall be the plague On the horse and the mule,On the camel and the donkey,And on all the cattle that will be in those camps.So shall this plague be.  The “Jerusalem” here is the new spiritual Jerusalem and the people who fought against it was the old physical Jerusalem to whom came the curse. Gal 4:21-31Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar -- 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children -- 26 but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. 27 For it is written:"Rejoice, O barren,You who do not bear!Break forth and shout,You who are not in labor!For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband." 28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 29 But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. 30 Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? "Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman." 31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.  Zech 14:16-19And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 And it shall be that whichever of the

families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.  Similar to Isaiah and Luke Isa 2:2-42 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains,And shall be exalted above the hills;And all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say,"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,To the house of the God of Jacob;He will teach us His ways,And we shall walk in His paths."For out of Zion shall go forth the law,And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 He shall judge between the nations, Luke 2:29-3229 "Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation 31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, 32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,And the glory of Your people Israel."  Zech 14:20-2120 In that day "HOLINESS TO THE LORD" shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the LORD's house shall be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the LORD of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts. Only those who serve God in holiness will be there

Isaiah calls them Sodom.  Isa 1:10-1110 Hear the word of the LORD,You rulers of Sodom;Give ear to the law of our God,You people of Gomorrah: 11 "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?"Says the LORD."I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle.I do not delight in the blood of bulls,Or of lambs or goats.  Rev 21:27 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.  Rev 22:14-15 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
