Look What We’re Studying…Language Arts:

Story of the Week for 4/28-5/2: Tippy-Toe Chick, GO!In phonics we will be discussing the “le” final syllable sound. We will also review the “ow” and “ou” sounds. We will be learning new amazing words and reviewing our first grade sight words. We will practice segmenting and blending two-syllable words and removing phonemes. We will practice expression in our fluency and discussing character, setting, and plot. We will make predictions before reading and set a purpose for a text. In grammar we will focus on imperative sentences. In writing we will focus on animal fantasy.

-I can identify the final “le” sound.-I can identify the “ow” and “ou” sounds.

-I can segment and blend words.-I can read fluently.

-I can discuss character, setting, and plot.-I can describe an imperative sentence.

Story of the Week for 5/5-5/9: Mole and the Baby BirdIn phonics we will be reviewing the “ow” and “ou” sounds. We will also focus on V/CV syllables and VC/V syllables. We will learn new amazing words and continue to practice our sight words and putting the words in sentences. We will be drawing conclusions in test and practicing our accuracy, rate, expression, and appropriate phrasing. We will also work on writing letters to characters in a text in writing. In grammar we will begin learning about pronouns.

Math:In math we are working on Unit 8 of Everyday Math. We will begin the unit by reviewing money and discussing the one dollar bill. We will be reviewing place value including ones, tens, and hundreds with our base-ten blocks. We will also be working hands on with money to discuss making change when purchasing items. We will review multiplication and practice the ACE strategy when working on math short answer problems. We will start to discuss equal shares and how they pertain to fractions.

-I can review money.-I can total sets of coins.

-I can make change.-I can multiply by 0’s, 1’s, and 2’s.

-I can use the ACE strategy to solve word problems.-I can discuss equal parts or shares.

Social Studies:We will begin our Economics unit in Social Studies. We will continue to discuss wants and needs as well as goods and services.
