Job Title: Horizon Service Volunteer Coordinator

Salary: £24,480 per annum (Pro rata)

Reporting to: Service Manager

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Volunteer Service.

To ensure the Volunteer service and model of delivery is fit for purpose.

To effectively recruit, support and offer training to Horizon volunteers to support our service delivery and expansion.

To ensure Horizon staff and volunteers are kept aware of good practice in volunteering and of any changes in legislation that might impact on volunteering.

To facilitate and promote social recovery activity and events in the local community.

To promote the work of the Horizon Volunteer Project.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1 To develop a robust programme for recruiting, training and placing volunteers across the organisation.

1.2 To maintain an up-to-date, accessible, volunteer database.

1.3 To interview, assess and place volunteers and co-ordinate a comprehensive volunteer induction programme for new volunteers

1.4 To introduce a clear process that promotes a mutual plan. /pathway with volunteers around independence outside of Horizon.

1.5 To identify volunteer’s training and development needs, and meet prioritised needs through a well-structured, planned programme of coaching and on-the-job learning, providing appropriate training opportunities both formal and informal.

1.6 To devise and co-ordinate volunteers’ meetings, publish newsletters, organise events and disseminate information of interest to volunteers.

1.7 To act as a reference point for referrals for voluntary help from clients and families.

1.8 To facilitate and organise external events and activities in the wider community to further promote recovery and the Horizon volunteer service.

1.9 To keep up to date with changes in legislation, policy and practice as they affect the work of Horizon Volunteer Project.

1.10 To produce and review guidelines for volunteers and liaise with the core staff team to monitor their use.

1.11 To support and encourage feedback from volunteers and share within the wider organisation.

1.12 To represent Horizon at relevant external meetings and forums. Liaising with service managers and identify when a peer or volunteer presence is needed to support meetings.

1.12 To devise and maintain a work plan and structure on planned recruitment of volunteers, working with the team leader’s/mangers around key roles needed within the Horizon service. To follow stringent and professional recruitment practices.

.1.13 To produce written reports as and when required on the volunteer service.

1.14 To contribute to the various reports on the number of volunteer hours and the financial benefits of volunteer activity.

1.15 To contribute to the wider Calico Group Volunteering Agenda.

1.16 To support the safeguarding lead in ensuring good practice within the volunteering service is adhered to.

GENERAL

2.1 To support/assist colleagues in the achievement of organisational objectives.

2.2 To provide a high level of customer service at all times.

2.3 To use his/her initiative, work effectively with others and maintain confidentiality.

2.4 To comply with all Acorn Recovery Projects Recovery policies and procedures.

2.5 To review his/her development needs through regular supervision and . appraisal and participate in appropriate training and development activities.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience of recruiting, supporting and developing volunteers with the ability to motivate volunteers.

A friendly open personality with the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.

Organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Computer literate, with proven experience of word processing and database management.

Ability to network with other professionals and agencies to further develop the volunteer offer.

Highly motivated and flexible.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to give presentations to large and small groups of people across all sectors.

Ability to use initiative and solve problems creatively.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Sound administration skills with experience of maintaining filing systems.

An interest in working with people in recovery and making a difference.

Commitment to Equality and diversity principles and practice and understanding of the issues involved in implementing and monitoring effective equalities policies in service delivery and in the employment of staff and volunteers.
