REMAINS OF MY PROSTATE

David D E Evans

Radiotherapy apparently has left me with no functioning prostatic tissue – a diminished man!!

Fortunately the PSA levels are remaining low and I am otherwise comfortable.

However I visited my surgeon, the one who recommended radiotherapy, the other day, to discuss testosterone supplement. I said to him, ‘You promised me fifteen years.” He said to me ‘Well you have had eight!’

He pointed out that the testosterone levels were low but still within normal limits.

The question I wanted an answer to, was, whether testosterone supplement might wake up latent cancer cells. He did not know, but thought I was pretty well off and advised doing nothing.

So I relax and keep my mind on constructively enjoying life as the survival years accumulate.

The picture is my own carcinoma of the prostate. I asked my pathologist for a digital image as I was giving a presentation on prostatic cancer to the Prostatic Cancer Foundation of Australia Support Group. My working life had been in pathology and I have enjoyed the pictorial approach to the microscopic world with its untold wonders. It is like swimming underwater with coral and seaweed, and sharks around.

I actually love the picture. Almost suitable for a wallpaper design.

And I love reading your stories.
