The cover also has lots of shadows cast because it juxtaposes her bright hair, which makes her stand out and illuminates her face making her look more bright and stand out than if it was a plain white background. The font is minimalistic and simple because the image is the main feature of the front cover, and it is only her name which connotes that soon everyone will know her name. The house style of the RWD magazine on the cover is grey, black and shadowy colours and also uses orange throughout like her skirt. The main image represents the ideal that the target reader would like to aspire to as she is a successful woman and will be soon be very famous, she is also attractive to the eye so more people would like to aspire to her. The main image artist represents the content of the magazine as she is a modern, hip-hop singer that uses modern technology to produce her music, like the magazine. The pose of the model tells you she is happy as she has a smile and has light shining on her face which shows she is bright, and she looks angelic and innocent in the light. The pose looks staged and she is popping her collar to show she is about to become successful. The model has a lot of breathing room and she is looking up as it represents the sky is the limit for their top tip. The image is a long shot that is used to show the whole model and has been digitally manipulated so that most of the cover is in shadows

Textual Analysis

RWD Online Edition

The front cover uses lots of blacks and greys because it connotes a sense of mystery to the cover, which makes the audience want to continue and read the magazine. The main image artist represents the content of the

magazine as she is a modern, hip-hop singer that uses modern technology to produce her music, like the magazine. The image is a long shot that is used to show the whole model and has been digitally manipulated so that most of the cover is in shadows apart from the models hair and face which are bight and illuminated, which is what you notice first and then her name, so now you will be less likely to forget her name or face. The strapline at the top of the cover gives an overview of what is contained in the magazine, and the cover line is introducing the front cover model and describing the popularity she is about to have. The title and cover line are the only text on the front cover that have a large enough font to be read from a distance, the model’s name especially as it is the only text in white on the dark background.

The main colour scheme on the contents page is orange, white and blue which creates a happy mood for the audience, and connotes that the magazine is light hearted and fun, not serious as a dark colour scheme would suggest. All of the models are young and fashionable connoting the style and tone of the magazine, and the desirable red convertible car will attract the young male audience to that article. It is set out in four quarters to make it easy to read and understand for the reader, and to make navigating to the correct pages more convenient for the audience. The font is simple and black as it is not trying to attract an audience like the front cover, but is trying to give as much information as possible in case the reader is just flicking through, or if a dedicated reader is looking for a specific article.

The double page spread uses silver and orange and other appealing modern colours to try and attract a young audience. The main image and article use a large image of an attractive female, which shows The Male Gaze Theory as it will attract more males to read the article.

The colour scheme is the same as the cover, and this is carried through for continuity

and to make the audience feel familiar. The text is in columns as is the stereotypical layout for double page spreads, and the pull quotes use orange to make them stand out and show they are not an obvious part of the article, and to break up the extended parts of the texts.
