Granada Foundation Grant - Open to applications - deadline 6 March 2013 Grant for voluntary and community organisations undertaking projects that encourage involvement in and understanding of the fine arts and science in the North West of England.  The Granada Foundation Grant is provided and administered by The Granada Foundation and is available for voluntary and community organisations in the North West of England.  The Foundation aims to encourage the study and appreciation of the fine arts and sciences and to promote education, with a particular interest in activity in the North West of England.   The Advisory Council meets three times a year at regular intervals (usually in February, June and October) to consider applications.http://granadafoundation.org/ A B Charitable Trust - Open to applications - deadlines 8 March 2013 and 24 May 2013Funding is available for charities that promote human rights, dignity and respect in the UK. The A B Charitable Trust (ABCT) is an independent, UK based grant-making organisation founded in 1990 that is concerned with promoting and defending human dignity. The Trust aims to support charities that defend human rights, such as freedom from torture and arbitrary imprisonment, and promote respect for individuals whatever their circumstances. Grants range in size, with most grants awarded being in the range £5,000 to £7,500.

http://abcharitabletrust.org.uk/ The Law Society Charity Grants - deadline 8 March 2013 The Law Society Charity was set up in 1974 by the Law Society as a charitable fund.  The Charity provides grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 to voluntary sector organisations for projects that promote: Human Rights; Access to Justice; Legal Education.http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/about-us/law-society-charity/apply/ Funding to Enhance Community Facilities - Core Fund deadline 18 March 2013 Under the Sita Trust’s Enhancing Communities Programme Core Fund, grants of up to £60,000 are available to not for profit organisations, community groups, parish councils, local authorities and charities for projects that make physical improvements to community facilities and historic buildings / structures.  SITA will accept applications from projects which are within 3 miles of qualifying SITA UK waste processing sites. http://www.sitatrust.org.uk Hilden Charitable Fund - deadline 19 March 2013 The Hilden Charitable Fund has announced that the next deadline for submitting applications is the 19th March 2013.  Within the UK, the Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants to projects that address disadvantages, notably by supporting causes which are less popular.  In particular, the Fund wants to support projects that address: Homelessness; Asylum seekers and refugees; Community based initiatives for disadvantaged young people 16 – 25; Penal Affairs.  Preference is given to supporting small community organisations with an income of less than £500,000 per year. The Trust will consider funding project as well as core running costs of organisations. During 2010 -11 the average grant given was £5,300.http://www.hildencharitablefund.org.uk/ Regional Growth Fund - deadline 20 March 2013 The Government has announced that the next funding round of the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) is now open to applications.  The RGF is a £2.6bn fund that will operate until 2016 to stimulate enterprise by providing support for projects and programmes with significant potential for creating long term private sector led economic growth and employment. In particular it will help those areas and communities that are currently dependent on the public sector. The level of funding available during this bidding round is £350 million.http://www.bis.gov.uk/RGF Funding for Youth Music Making Activities - Deadline 27 March 2013 Youth Music, the UK's largest children's music charity, has announced that the next closing date for first stage  applications is 5pm on the 10th October 2012.  Through its "Open Programme", grants of between £5,000 and £30,000 are available to support projects that provide music-making activities for children and young people, especially

those young people in challenging circumstances.  These circumstances can encompass anything from mental health issues, special educational needs, physical disability, rural isolation and economic deprivation.  Youth Music will fund non profit-making organisations more than one year old that is committed to music-making activities for children and young people up to 18 (or up to 25 if they have special educational needs, disabilities or are in detention). Youth Music aims to support music making activities principally in out of school hours such as during weekends, holidays as well as in breakfast and after schools clubs. Youth Music understands that programmes may need to begin in school hours especially if the proposal involves encouraging first time participation in music. To help with this, Youth Music will consider applications for programmes where up to 25% of the time is spent in school hours.  The proposed programme should aim to encourage children and young people to eventually make music outside of school hours.http://network.youthmusic.org.uk/funding Funding for European Study Visits for Education and Vocational Training Professionals - deadline 28 March 2013 Education and vocational training professionals who want to examine a particular aspect of lifelong learning in another country, have the opportunity to take part in European study visits of up to one week.  The study visits which are organised by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) give education and training professionals the opportunity to visit one of 28 countries. Each visit is organised around specific themes.http://www.cedefop.europa.eu/EN/news/21066.aspx Church and Community Fund Opens for Applications - deadline 31 March 2013 The Church of England’s Church and Community Fund has announced that it has re-opened for applications.  The overall aim of the fund is to grow the Church of England and develop its capacity to engage with the whole community.   Community projects run by parish churches, deaneries, dioceses and other bodies connected to or working in partnership with the Church of England can apply for funding of up to £20,000 for projects that: Significantly expand the Church’s engagement with neighbourhood renewal; Seek innovative ways of developing established community projects so that they either  grow existing or evolve into new communities of Christian Faith; Replicate models of successful community engagement across the wider church. conservation funding strand to its Conservation Grant Scheme.  Supported by the Pilgrim Trust, the scheme will run for three years. It has been set up to help small museums develop a more sustainable approach to the conservation and management of collections through improvements to preventive conservation within their museum.  The maximum grant will be £10,000 and average grants awarded will be around £5,000.http://www.museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk/news/news-article/485/new-aim-grant-scheme-promotes-preventive-conservation Co-operative Bank: Customer Donation Fund - deadline 31 March 2013 Organisations that bank with the Co-operative Bank using their Community Directplus Bank Account, have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Bank’s Customer Donation Fund.  The Customer Donation Fund grows directly in relation to customers' deposits. For every £100 increase in collective balance held in Community Directplus accounts, the Co-operative Bank will add 20p to the fund. Then, twice a year, in April and October, the Bank will judge customers' applications for project funding and distribute a minimum of £5,000 amongst those customers that are successful. Every Community Directplus customer is entitled to make an application for funding for up to £1,000.http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1196151412586,CFSweb/Page/Business-CommunityBanking McDonald’s KickStart Grants - deadline 31 March 2013 McDonalds has announced that the next deadline for applications to its Kick Start Grants Programme is the 31st March 2013.  The aim of the programme is to support community football throughout the UK.  A total of £75,000 is available through the McDonalds Kick Start scheme and local community football teams can apply for grants of between £500 and £2,500 for activities such as: Improving club facilities; Grounds-keeping tools; Training courses; Pitch hire; Van hire; Washing machines for kit; etc.  Individuals can apply for a grant on behalf of their club, as long as they are recognised by their national FA, and have at least one team at or below junior (U18) level.http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/ukhome/Sport/Football/Investment/small-grant.html BIG's International Communities Programme - deadline 31 March 2013 Following a mid-term review, the BIG Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that it will be introducing quarterly funding rounds to its £80 million International Communities programme.   The programme which will run until 2015 aims to help disadvantaged communities overseas by supporting work that tackles the causes of poverty and deprivation and brings about long-term differences to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in the world.  Voluntary and community organisations who are working with partnerships with NGOs overseas will be able to apply for grants of between £50,000 and £500,000 to fund projects in all parts of the developing world which will improve education, health, allocation of natural resources, human rights, and/or livelihoods.

http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/global-content/programmes/uk-wide/international-communities Tesco Charity Trust - Support for the Elderly and / or People with Disabilities - deadline 31 March 2013 The Tesco Charity Trust has announced that it is currently accepting applications for projects supporting the elderly and/or people with disabilities.   Through the Trust Community and Voluntary groups can apply for grants apply for grants of between £500 and £4,000 through the Tesco Charity’s Community Awards. The Tesco Charity Trust has been in existence since 1987 and aims to provide approximately £600,000 in grants each year.  The types of projects supported in the past have included: Befriending schemes; Luncheon clubs; Specialist equipment for disabled people; Day trips / social trips – for elderly / disabled people, etc.  The Tesco Charity Trust Trustees also consider grant applications at their tri-annual meetings. These grants range between £4,000 and £25,000 and are to support local, national or international projects in areas where Tesco’s operate. http://www.tescoplc.com/index.asp?pageid=121 £500 Business Grants for New Childminding Businesses  - opens April 2013 The Government has announced that grants of up to £500 will be available to encourage people to set up nurseries and childminding businesses.  The £2million scheme which will be launched in April 2013 will support the creation of up to 6,000 childminders.   People who want to set up a nursery or childminding business can access grants of up to £500 to help cover legal and insurance costs, health and safety training, and adaptations to premises, etc.  Childminders caring for less than six children could receive around £250 while those looking to set up larger businesses might collect up to £500 towards a deposit on new premises.  All those who receive grants will also be offered start-up advice and mentoring through the government’s Business in You scheme.http://www.culture.gov.uk Funding for Science Education - opens 1 April 2013 The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers, which is one of the leading charities in the UK supporting metallurgy and materials science education from primary school to postgraduate levels makes funding available to UK schools for special purposes such as science equipment and projects, or travel to scientific events or institutions.   Typically these are up to £600 for primary and to £1000 for secondary schools.  Funds are finite and will be allocated on a first come first served basis in each year starting on 1 April.http://www.armourershall.co.uk/cmspage.php?id=101&cmsid=3&parentid=100 Lloyds Banking Group Social Entrepreneurs Programme - deadline 2 April 2013 The Lloyds Banking Group has announced that its Social Entrepreneurship programme is open for applications.    The programme aims to support individuals and organisations with project ideas to improve local communities.   The programme provides two levels of

support.  New organisations or projects at an early stage can apply for funding of up to £4,000 as well as one year of training and development.  Established organisations that are looking to scale up their projects can apply for funding of up to £15,000 and one year of training. http://www.the-sse.org/schools/26/lloyds-banking-group-social-entrepreneurs-programme British Academy - Small Research Grants - deadline 10 April 2013 The British Academy, the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, has announced that its Small Research Grant scheme is open for applications.  Under the Small Research Grants programme grants of between £500 and £10,000 over two years are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences.http://www.britac.ac.uk/funding/guide/srg.cfm The British & Foreign Schools Society - deadline 22 April 2013 The British & Foreign Schools Society (BFSS), which supports educational projects in the UK and around the world has announced that the next meeting for which applications can be accepted is on 22nd April 2013; applications should be received at least 4 weeks in advance.  The Society supports organisations that reach out to children in remote or impoverished areas, improving inclusivity in education and providing much-needed facilities.  The Society normally makes grants for educational projects totalling about £400,000 in any one year. The majority (85% of grants) are made to charities and educational bodies (with charitable status).http://www.bfss.org.uk/grants/ Grants for Women Making Music - deadline 29 April 2013 and 23 September 2013 The Performing Right Society (PRS) has announced that its Women Make Music grant scheme is now open for applications. Through the programme, financial support of up to £5000 is available to women musicians; and new music in any genre is welcome, from classical, jazz and experimental, to urban, electronica and pop.  The aims of Women Make Music are: To break down assumptions and stereotypes within the music industry by encouraging role models for future generations; Raise awareness of the gender gap and to ensure that women are aware that support for new music is available to them; Increase the profile of women who are creating new music in the UK; Stimulate new collaborations between organisations and female music creators. Through the scheme support is available to both individuals and organisations/groups. http://www.prsformusicfoundation.com Nominet Trust: Funding for IT Projects Supporting Disadvantaged Groups - deadline 1 May 2013 Funding is available to organisations with innovative IT related project ideas that can make a positive difference to disadvantaged and vulnerable groups - in the UK, developing countries and around the world.  The funding is available through the Nominet Trust. The

aim of the Trust is to fund innovative Internet projects that make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people, primarily in terms of education, safety and inclusion.  The Trust is particularly interested in funding projects that can be scaled up and replicated. There is no minimum grant application and applications for over £100,000 require an interview. Organisations wishing to apply, need initially to complete and online application form. Those organisations deemed successful will be invited to complete the Stage 2 application form.   The next closing date for submitting initial Advisory Eligibility Forms is the 1st May 2013.http://www.nominettrust.org.uk Funding for Financial Literacy Projects - deadline 1 May 2013 The MSE Charity has announced that its grants programme will re-open for applications on the 1st May 2013.  The MSE Charity provides grants to constituted community based groups (including schools) to help fight financial and consumer illiteracy and to educate and inform adults and children about consumer and debt issues.  Under the programme, grants of up to £5,000 are available for group projects such as self-help groups, schools, workshops and other innovative schemes that seek to educate people about money, debt and consumer issues.  The programme usually closes when 40 applications have been received.  Individuals over the age of 18 can apply for a grant of up to £500 to help pay towards a recognised and approved course that will help improve their ability to budget and manage their finances. The grant can be used to pay for financial education course fees and other associated expenses.https://www.msecharity.com/Default.aspx?pageid=15 Community Sport Activation Fund - Open 7 May 2013 to 1 July 2013 Sport England has announced that its £40 million Community Sport Activation Fund grant scheme will re-open for applications on the 7th May 2013. Through the Community Sport Activation Fund  grants of  between £50,000 and £250,000 will be available to sports clubs, schools, local authorities and other not for profit organisations to support grassroots sports activities at a very local level.    The type of activities that can be funded include: Activities reflecting a broad range of sports; Informal opportunities which could lead to regular participation; Multi-sport activities which provide people with a range of choices and opportunities to suit them; Family orientated activities with a focus on 14 plus age group; Local activator roles that focus on directly organising and delivering new opportunities for participation.  http://www.sportengland.org/funding/.aspx Funding for Summer Playschemes - deadline 17 May 2013 The Hilden Charitable Fund has announced that its Summer Playscheme Grants Programme is now open for applications to help community groups run Summer Playschemes for the benefit of children from refugee and ethnic minority families.  Funding of between £500 and £1,500 is available for Summer Playschemes for children aged 5 - 18

years lasting for 2 - 6 weeks with strong volunteer support.  The funding is available to voluntary agencies with an income of less than £120,000. Some priority will be given to projects which show they are inclusive of children from refugee families, and show BME involvement. http://www.hildencharitablefund.org.uk/summer%20playcheme%20application%20form.htm EAGA Charitable Trust Grant Programme - deadline 31 May 2013 The EAGA Charitable Trust has announced that its grant making programme has re-opened for applications.  The Trust supports projects and research into the causes of fuel poverty.  There is no minimum or maximum grant level that organisations can apply for and most grants last between two and three years. http://www.eagacharitabletrust.org/index.php/grants-offered Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust - deadline 1 June 2013 The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust which awards grants to charitable organisations in the United Kingdom  has announced that  the next closing date for applications is the 1st June 2013.  During 2013, the Trust is seeking to fund projects that help children and young people.  Grants are usually between £1,000 and £3,000 and are awarded for one year.http://www.austin-hope-pilkington.org.uk Royal Bank of Scotland Inspiring Women in Enterprise ProgrammeThe Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has announced that the next funding round of its Inspiring Women in Enterprise will open on the 3rd June 2013. Through  the programme organisations that support women setting up their own business can apply for grants of up to £50,000.  This can include: Delivering enterprise education; Innovative networking events; Developing entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, etc. The total fund available each year is £500,000.http://www.inspiringenterprise.rbs.com/inspiring-women Sport England's Protecting Playing Fields Programme Due To Open To Applications - Opens 10 June 2013 to 5 August 2013 Sport England has announced round 5 of their Protecting Playing Fields Programme (PPF) will open to applications on the 10th June 2013.  Applications can be submitted by organisations such as voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, sports clubs, playing field associations, charities and education establishments.  PPF is seeking to support projects that help communities maximise the sporting benefits of playing field land.http://www.sportengland.org/funding/protecting_playing_fields/programme_information.aspx Connecting Classrooms – Partnership Grants - deadline 28 June 2013 The British Council has announced the Connecting Classrooms programme is open for

applications.  Through the programme UK schools that have existing partnerships with schools in South America, Africa and South Asia can apply for funding to cover reciprocal visits and to support project work. Schools can apply for an annual grant of £1,500 for each school in the partnership. The grant must be spent on reciprocal partnership visits. If all the grant is not spent, the remainder can be used for project resources and communication costs. To be eligible for funding partnerships must work towards three objectives. These are: Increasing global citizenship; Enriching education; Developing an equitable and sustainable partnership.http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/programmes-and-funding/linking-programmes-worldwide/connecting-classrooms/partnership Funding for Schools to Purchase Musical Equipment - deadline 11 September 2013 Schools in the UK, that wish to purchase musical instruments and equipment can apply for funding of up to £2,000 through the EMI Music Sound Foundation’s  Instrument and/or Equipment Awards. To date the Foundations has made awards to over two thousand schools, individual students and teachers improve their access to music through the purchase or upgrade of musical instruments and equipment.  The funding has to be made for music education that is beyond statutory national curriculum music teaching.  The Foundation can not fund retrospectively and schools are not eligible for financial assistance under this scheme if they have already purchased their instruments or if they do so before their application has been approved. http://www.emimusicsoundfoundation.com/index.php/site/awards/ HLF Announces New Funding Programmes - no deadline The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced the launch of its new open funding programmes.  These programmes provide grants to a wide variety of organisations including community groups, private companies and individuals, etc to explore, share and celebrate their heritage.  Grants will range from £3,000 to £5 million depending on the type of project and applications can be submitted at any time.   In addition the Heritage Lottery Fund has also launched its Targeted Programmes and Special Initiatives funding strands. http://www.hlf.org.uk/HowToApply/programmes/Summaryofprogrammes2013/Pages/Openprogrammes.aspx vInspired Cashpoint  - no deadline vInspired Cashpoint is offering funding of up to £500 to young people (14 – 25 year olds) who want to set up a local project to help their community.  To be eligible for funding, the project should be of benefit to the community where the young people live, or where they spend most of their time, or a group of people that they would like to help.  The project should be a new idea or something that applicants have tried before but would like to do differently.  Grants need to be used within two months of the project start date and should create a least two more volunteering opportunities for 14-25 year olds (in addition to the applicant).

http://www.vinspired.com Travellers Aid TrustFunded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the programme will be delivered by the Travellers Aid Trust. Grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 will be awarded to Gypsy Roma and Traveller groups to help skill up young people, improve literacy and work with offenders.  The Travellers Aid Trust expects to award between 7 and 10 grants a year.   For more information, please contact Susan Alexander at The Travellers Aid Trust on  [email protected] visit their websitehttp://esmeefairbairn.org.uk/ Non-Turf Cricket Pitch Grants - opened January 2013 The Lords Taverners have announced that its non-Turf Pitch Grants scheme is open for applications.  Through the scheme, applications can be made for grants towards the installation of non-turf pitches, practice ends and nets. The awards include grants of up to:£3,000 towards non-turf pitches;  £2,000 towards non-turf practice ends;  £1,000 towards outdoor nets.  Applications will be considered from cricket clubs affiliated to a National Governing Body of Cricket, individual schools or other organisations directly involved in the organisation of youth cricket.http://www.lordstaverners.org/ Santander Launches Community Plus Fund - no deadline Following the launch, in September, of a new £250,000 pilot fund for charities in the South West, Santander Foundation has announced the launch of a new £1.23 million Community Plus fund to support charities helping local disadvantaged people across the UK.  UK registered charities can apply for a grant of up to £5,000.  The funding must be for a specific project that helps disadvantaged people.  For example this could be for a piece of equipment or to pay for the costs of a part time sessional worker.   To apply, just visit any Santander branch and complete a nomination form. The completed form should be dropped into the box provided in your local branch. There are no closing dates and entries will be regularly considered by a panel of staff drawn from across the region. Successful charities will be notified within 2 months of submitting their nomination.http://www.santanderfoundation.org.uk Arts Council: Applications Invited for three Arts Council SchemesThe Department of Culture has announced that three schemes which aim to improve the long-term sustainability, diversity and resilience of the arts and cultural sector have opened for applications.   Arts Council England (ACE) have announced details of how to apply for its Catalyst Arts: Building fundraising capacity, Transforming arts fundraising and Developing resilient leadership grants programmes. The first two schemes are part of the £100 million Catalyst programme which was launched by DCMS, ACE and the Heritage

The regulations were published two weeks ago to provide guidance on how the NHS reforms should be implemented.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21672962 Prescription charges to rise by 20p in EnglandThe cost of prescription charges in England will rise by 20p to £7.85 from 1 April, the government has announced.  In other parts of the UK, prescriptions are free.  The British Medical Association has previously said the current system is "unfair" and wants prescription charges to be scrapped in England.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21629363 UK 'fares badly in European health league table'The UK is lagging behind progress by similar countries on many indicators for ill-health, research suggests.   Health data over 20 years was compared with figures from 18 other countries in the research published in the Lancet.  Although average life expectancy has risen by four years since 1990, it says the UK needs to increase its strategies for tackling preventable problems such as heart disease and stroke.   Five big killers - heart disease, stroke, cancer, lung and liver disease - account for more than 150,000 deaths a year among under-75s in England alone and the Department of Health estimates 30,000 of these are entirely avoidable.
