Bonjour! My name is Madame Russell and I am CHS French teacher. I teach all four levels of French, including honors and IB classes. Therefore, I have the opportunity to develop a LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP with your student and your family. As the year goes on, I am looking forward to meeting you.

I am delighted to have your child in French class. French is a PRACTICAL LANGUAGE to learn: by learning French, your student is making a GOOD CHOICE and joining an elite group.

By the end of this year, students will be able to SPEAK, READ AND WRITE IN FRENCH. I want your student to BE SUCCESSFUL IN CLASS, earn the grade that he/she wants and above all, enjoy learning French.

French is practical language to learn: 1. French is spoken in more than 51 countries; 28 have French as an official language.2. French is the only language other than English spoken on five continents. 3. France is the most visited country in the world4. French is a major language of high tech, business, fashion and diplomacy. 5. French, along with English, is the official language of the United Nations, UNESCO, NATO,

the International Olympic Committee, the USPS and the International Red Cross6. Students who study French are among an elite group7. 30% of the English vocabulary are French words: fiancé, dépot, restaurant, bureau, route,

avenue, mariage, à la carte, Marines, lieutenant, casserole, rotisserie, ballet, gratin, voyage, brunette entrée….

PLANNING FOR SUCCESS IN FRENCH CLASS

1. There is homework after each class. Homework is 25% of the grade. 2. Students must memorize the new words and structures. Quiz your student

frequently. 3. Students must keep an organized binder and take good notes. 4. Turn work on time. Late work earns reduced points. 5. Re-take quizzes if a score is lower than expected. Students have 1 week to re-take

quizzes, provide that homework has been completed before. Student must conference with the teacher first.

6. If your student is absent, contact me to obtain the class work (email is best). Students are responsible for all missed work. Learning is very progressive and falling behind is hard on the student.

7. Check grades weekly on PowerSchool. I add grades every week. 8. Encourage your student to see me before or after school

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, CONTACT ME BY EMAIL OR PHONE.
