This week’s project learning: Family History

Task: To interview a family member or someone who you know well (preferably an older person).

Please, see the attached document for further information. We would love to hear from you! Make sure you share your interviews with us. Take a picture of your work and send it to [email protected] .

This week’s creative learning: Creative Maths

We were not able to celebrate a Maths Day at St Boniface in March, but still we would like you to have some fun with maths! All you need is an old T-shirt/top to create your own ‘Mathematics Top Design’. If you already created one, why don’t you challenge yourself and create a ‘Maths hat’? Please see the attached letter for more information and make sure you share your designs with us!

Reading

Reading improves our vocabulary and leads to more highly-developed language skills.

This is because we learn new words as we read but also because we unconsciously absorb information as we read about things like how to structure sentences and how to use words and language effectively.

The best way to keep a record of your reading and new words you have learnt is to keep a reading diary. You can always add a little illustration or a comment after your reading. Why don’t you pick a question from the list below and answer it in you reading diary? This will make a perfect comment about your reading!

You can download a reading diary here https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-579-reading-diary.

Or you can create your own one! We would be delighted to see what you are reading these days. Why don’t you take a picture of your book and your reading diary and email it to us?

Questions to ask before you read Can you look at the pictures and predict what you think will happen in this book? What makes you think that? Does the topic/story relate to you or your family? How?

Questions to ask during the reading What do you think will happen next? What can you tell me about the story so far? Can you predict how the story will end? What would you have done if you were the character? How would you have felt if you were the character? (use different characters) Can you put what you’ve just read in your own words?

Questions to ask after reading Can you remember the title? In your opinion, was it a good title for this book? Why or why not? Were your predictions about the story correct? What is the most important point the author is trying to make in his writing? What was your favourite part of the story? Can you retell the story in order? What is the most interesting situation in the story? Is there a character in the story like you? How are you alike? Why did you like this book?

Maths

White Rose has prepared a fantastic home learning resource which is very visual and child friendly. It consists of a short video where the new learning is explained in a simple way. Then, children can do the activity sheet (which can either be printed or children can write their answers in their books). Answer sheets are also available. Please, aim to do one lesson per day. Please, start with summer term week 1. Click on the link below to access your year group. No log in details are required.

Music

This fortnight’s composer is John Williams. He is a famous film composer for films scores such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, E.T. and lots more! Film music is a fantastic opportunity for children to really listen to the music and describe what they think might be happening in the film. It is easier as the music has been composed for a specific purpose such as fast speedy music for a car chase. Please see the atttached files.

ICT

Go online to https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/?tutorial=all and practise your coding skills. There are tutorials for this activity available on the page.

Parents/Carers: PLEASE NOTE: There is no need to create a scratch account to complete this task. However, if you would like to save your child’s work then an account is needed. Please be advised that account holders are able to

communicate with other scratch users. With this in mind, it is important to ensure that the proper guidance is given for the use of a scratch account if you chose to allow your child to create one.

Please do not allow your child to use identifiable information in their username, posts or projects.
