I am an all-around type of person. I enjoy classes that are much different from one
another because it keeps the day and classroom interesting. Advanced Animal Science is a class
that has stuck with me since high school. I enjoy learning about different breeds and their
functions. I plan to utilize all my resources, inside and outside of the classroom. I believe that
giving students the opportunity to go out and dig in a garden is more beneficial then taking
notes from a power point inside. At times, I know note taking will be necessary but I plan to
incorporate some type of hands on learning into that teaching method as well.
I am comfortable with any Ag mechanics class even if it is not my most desired class. I have
different ideas for projects in mind for my students but safety is always my top priority. My
students must know the basic rules and safety guidelines before conducting any type of
experiment, dissection, or metal project.
I took several personality tests to see where I would best fit. The results for the VARK
Learning Styles Questionnaire concluded that I was a reading and writing learner, which
somewhat surprised me. I do enjoy writing neat notes but I believe I learn better from visual
aide. I will consider this when I am making test reviews or teaching more intense material to my
students. Next I took the Multiple Intelligences quiz and I thought the outcome described me
perfectly. The highest score was in Nature which is true because I enjoy being outdoors and
connecting with the natural world around me. The next two were self and social which I believe
are two key factors when describing a teacher. I know myself and what I am capable of but I
also want be connected with others. I could not imagine myself sitting behind a computer
screen for my career.
For the final quiz, I chose to take the Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire. The quiz
results were in scale form with 1-3 being well balanced on two dimensions, 5-7 means there a
moderate preference for one dimension and 9-11 shows a very strong preference for one
dimension on the scale. I scored 1-3 on each of the 4 different scales. I believe this shows how
much of a well-rounded person that I am. I can learn in different ways which will help me to
teach in different ways.
My ability to connect to students will help me to be a successful teacher. I have a
teacher friendly personality which will help me also. My students will always be engaged in the
lesson because my goal is to make them hands on and interesting. I thought these quizzes were
helpful and I plan to have my future students take them so that I can have a better
understanding of who they are. I do not believe in moving forward with a lesson if a child does
not understand. Every student will have a fair chance in my classroom.
I plan to use clarity, variability, and enthusiasm in my classroom. I understand what it is
like to be in a class and be completely lost. I owe it to my students to make sure that each
lesson is clear and concise. My classroom will be a comfortable yet working environment. I will
manage my classroom effectively and stay on task so that my students will learn something
each day. I am very hopeful and passionate about what I do and I know that the success of my
students and chapter will reflect this.
