CW 2 Reflective Report:IntroductionThe objectives of this report are to reflect the planning, idea and process in design and create of a news reporting video on Hong Kong housing mortgage rules changed recently. The aims of this re-port are to present the idea and the use of equipments in hardware and software.

This report will first introduce the idea and the creation plan, and then discuss on the tools have been used in the creating process in both hardware and software. After that, will discuss the image production environment on time and location setup. Follow that, will reveal the image’s output process in details of visual effects and font style. Finally, a conclusion of the entire process are drawn and a number of suggestions are made for enhancement.

THE IDEAThe main idea of this video is to recreate the daily news reporting scene in length of one minute video.

The goal of this video is to show the use of different technique on video capture, lighting, position, video editing and video animation. And combine all those techniques in a one minute long video in news reporting format.

Production ProcessLocationThe outdoor video shooting took place in Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong, which is one of the high population city in the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. The indoor shots was took in a recording studio which provide a quiet and control environment to setup the camera and background for easy editing in post production.

TimeThe outdoor video shot taken at the afternoon to capture the sun light and the landscape of the surrounding buildings in the area. And the indoor video shots are taken in the evening which doesn’t required to depend on the outdoor light and weather condition.

SetupThe outdoor setup used a tripod to hold the camera to keep a steady and horizontal wide angle to shoot the outdoor senses. For indoor recording took place in a recording studio, which provide a warm lighting environment at around 21 LUX in order to keep in a low noise in lighting effect, a green wallpaper have been used for the video shot’s background, the news reporter stand in front of the green wallpaper and the camera keep at leat 50% of space for later to key in image in post production editing.

Camera settingThe Canon D50 camera equiped with Canon EF-S 17-85mm lens are being used for the outdoor and indoor video recording. also used a tripod to hold stand up the camera and keep the camera the same parallel level. IOS 3200 selected, noise reduction, live face mode and auto flash light are enabled.

Post-Production ProcessThe end product required to have the list of elements shown below:

The MCC News logo have been created by using Photoshop CS5, and then, the MCC News logo are placed on top of the entire video.

A short news type jingle music has been used for the opening and end credits with fade in and fade out sound effect applied in Final Cut Pro X.

The original indoor video was too dark, so used the color correction tool in Final Cut Pro X to ad-dress this low lighting issue.

And also, used the Keyer tool in Final Cut Pro X to remove the green wallpaper and replace with an animated background.

FontProxima Nova Font has been used for the caption and Gill Sans used for subtitles in this video.

The caption font is sized 60pt, set in blood and displayed in white color, and placed at the bottom right corner of the video.

The subtitles font is dynamically adjust according to the text length, and displayed in white color with grey shadow to better blend with light color.

Reflective Conclusion

In the process of producing the video from idea and planing to final product release. I discovered that producing a news report video have to involved a lot of well planing, preparation and execution to implement the idea to became a final product.

However, the lighting setup in the room could be improved, and a DSLR camera definitely is better choice for the job.
