WEBSITE SCAVENGER HUNT PART 3 One of the best resources you will have in this class is my class website. In this assignment you will be asked to learn how to navigate your way through to finding: contact information, daily/weekly communications, assignments, due dates, calendars, and other helpful information. It is very crucial with remote learning for you to learn how to learn, what I mean by with that is by giving you this tool you can learn how to direct your learning that is best suited to your needs. By learning what the website has to offer it can help you to navigate the wide range of available choices here so that you are better equipped in the future.

This assignment is designed in parts to help break it down, so it does not overwhelm you. Some of the content will be easy for many of you and you can speed right through it. Other’s may be seeing some of this for the first time so complete it at your pace.

I will be asking you a series of questions in which you will need to go to the website and find the answers. Once you have, you will need to tell me how you found it and give me a screen shot showing me you found it.

PART 1 REVIEW:

What is on the blog page and how to navigate to different months/years How to access my contact information and helpful links to support students remotely What PBL stands for and why it is used What some of the District’s Outcomes and Indicators are

If you still have not mastered these concepts, please look over Part 1 again to help you.

Learn and Review

Welcome to Part III: Navigating the second two tabsNow let’s take a look at some of the next two features on the website. The next tab is called “FAQ”.

The FAQ sheet is to help any frequently asked questions as they arise. Some students have no problems asking for help or asking questions, but some feel uncomfortable doing so. This will help to alleviate any issues that might come up.

On this page you will find a “live” document. This means that as I type on it it will appear on the website. So as more and more questions get asked it will appear. You can scroll through the document by using the arrows at the bottom of the document. You will see a date in which the questions came up, what the questions was, and the answer for it. This does not mean I will not be available for helping you or answering questions, it means that there is another source of information if you forget to ask or feel uncomfortable asking.

The final tab on top is called “2020-2021 Units and Modules”

If you click on the top tab it will give you the page above. This page is dedicated to helping you navigate your way through the technology that the district is using as well as a few websites that we will be utilizing in class.

You will see information on the Core 4. What are they, why are we using them, how do they work, all with instructional videos if you need help with utilizing these tools. I will be posting videos for using the website as well.

For your asynchronous videos, as you have already seen, I posted them on YouTube. When we are doing videos as a class and do not wish them to be made public, we will use Screencast-O-Matic.

PhET will be used for online lab and simulations and was created by the University of Colorado, it is widely used.

If you hover over the “2020-2021Units/Modules” tab you will see another drop-down. This says, “Unit 1 Welcome”. This page will have access to each unit as we move through it.

Each unit is organized the same way.

3. Get Oriented: This section will give you an overview and purpose to what we are doing in the unit. Here you see the hyperlinks and the buttons that are used to help you get the content from other sources.

4. Read, Review, Complete: This section allows you to look at content and you will be asked to either; read it, review it, or complete a task.

5. Pause and Reflect: is for taking a moment to digest all the content from the previous section. It will ask you some questions to see if you are ready to move on to the next section of if there is some material you may need to review again.

6. Practice and Share : this section is for applying the content you learned from the previous sections. This will ensure you comprehend and can apply content.

At any time, you can go back to a section and review content when/if you need it

Section 1: Get Oriented. This again will tell you how to navigate the page and how to access content. It will also let you know the purpose and reason for the unit and what we are going to cover.

Section 2: Read, Review, Complete

Here you will be asked to either read something, review a video, or complete a task. This section is primary for getting the content and information you need for class. Since this is the Welcome Unit, it’s all about getting comfortable with technology for remote Here you can see the Cartoon I created for you, the Forms quiz, and the Forms survey. If you click on any of these it will take you to the site.

Here you see the Syllabus link and an example of our Quiet Minds videos available on another page of the website.

Since this is the Welcome Unit, I have put in the learning loops and the videos again for understanding out technology. Right now, the Learning Loop isn’t working as some of you have told me, but before I assign this, I hope that it will be up and running. I have contacted the IT department.

Section 3: Pause and Reflect. This section gives you an opportunity to see how well you absorbed all the information in Section 2. It asks a few questions and if you can answer them with no help than it will let you know you are ready for Section 4. If not, you have the ability to go back to Section 2 and review content again.

Finally, the end of section two “Read, Review, Complete” shows you a link to a website called Quizlet. This site is helpful when learning vocabulary. It gives you many different methods in learning and understanding the vocabulary for each unit assigned. There are notecards, games, practice tests, and it is free if you want to make your own for other classes.

This slide shows you my YouTube channel. You will never need to “Subscribe” as I will always give you the links needed.

We are using Zoom and again the link will not be on the website. It is the same link we have been using (except the first day) and that is to minimize confusion. It is also the same link for Office hours as well as the link listed in my email communications.
