THINGS TO REMEMBER THIS HALF TERM
Welcome to Year 3! This newsletter is coming out a little later than planned but we hope you find it as informative non the less! This letter contains a Topic Map, which shows all of the areas of the curriculum your child will be learning this half term. Please spend some time looking at this and discuss the areas with your child. Your child should be able to guide you through the topic map but if you have any queries please feel free to ask us.
Ruby and Pearl have swimming on MONDAYS. Onyx and Jet have swimming on TUESDAYS
Please ensure that your child has a towle, swimming costume / swimming shorts not regular sport shorts. We would recommend a swimming cap and goggles aswell.
Ruby and Pearl have PE on THURSDAYS. Onyx and Jet have PE on MONDAYS
Please ensure that your child has correct PE kit with them each week which includes the Heavers Farm house T shirt.
Children must bring in their reading diary and reading books every day and their diaries must be signed each week. Please speak to your child or class teacher to find out on what day it needs to be signed.
Homework / Learning Logs
We would like to thank you for your patience regarding the homework books. They have now arrived and look forward to seeing some great homework!
The children are set homework each Friday and need to return it by the following Wednesday. Homework is an important activity that reinforces learning from the week and teaches children about responsibility for their own learning. Please make every effort to ensure that homework is completed and handed in on time each week.
The homework will also be posted onto the class blogs each week.
Ways to help your child:
Make visits to the library to take out topic related books. Our main topics this half term is called ‘Inventions that have changed the world’ and will include looking at different subjects such as Literacy, History, Geography DT and Art.
Help them with their homework each week.
Practice their times tables regularly.
Read every night with your child and try to ask them questions about the story which they have read.
If possible take your children to museums, galleries or exhibitions to help develop their own interests.
ENGLISH
We will be looking at Anthony Horowitz 'Stormbreaker' as our narrative text. We will also be looking at different types of letters, focusing on formal and informal writing.
MATHEMATICS
Using column additon and subtraction with partitioning into Hundred, Tens and Unit. Continuing to learn our 2, 3, 5 and 10 timestables. Measuring using standard units .
SCIENCE
About the air around us and the science of flight. How to make a paper glider. About man-made materials and their properties. How to carry out a scientific test
ART AND DESIGN
How technology has been depicted in art. About techniques in traditional and modern art. How to create digital art. How to make a print
HISTORY
About significant inventions of the last 100 years. About inventions in the way we communicate. About the Islamic ‘Golden Age of Invention’.
GEOGRAPHY
About significant inventions from around the world. What countires have fewer technologies and why.
MUSIC
Be able to sing familiar songs. Be able to play simple rhythms with a steady beat to create a rhymic dance to a beat.
