Round Rock Veterans Monument Recognition Packet The mission of the Round Rock Veterans Monument is to recognize as many known veterans from Round Rock as possible, as well as those nominated by family and friends of Round Rock citizens. The monument features six columns with plaques that honor a different branch of service: U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corp, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. A memorial wall will honor veterans who have been killed in action, become prisoners of war, or went missing in action. The Round Rock Veterans Monument Committee has been working with the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department to find a way to recognize all of the veterans of Round Rock. Engraved bronze plaques will be installed in the plaza area of the tribute to recognize these veterans. An engraved plaque with a soldier’s name, date of service, and branch of service is a great way to honor the veteran(s) special to you. These plaques will be installed once a year and will be unveiled at an annual Veterans Day ceremony held at the Monument*. *Note: the first year celebration will be held on Memorial Day, 2015. Process for Recognizing a Veteran

Fill out the form attached to this packet with all of the appropriate information. If the veteran you are nominating has been a Prisoner of War, Missing in Action, or Killed in Action, please be sure to check the appropriate box so the proper recognition can be made.

Upon receiving a request form, PARD employees will work with members of the Round Rock Veterans Monument Committee to review the request and purchase the plaque for installation if approved.

The reviewers will meet monthly to approve submissions and/or plaque wording. Reviewers will contact the submitter if a nomination was declined with an explanation and will

provide a full refund.

Rules for Acceptable Wording on plaques

Plaques are for recognizing and honoring anyone that served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marines. See below for sample wording. The following are not considered appropriate and may be cause for a nomination to be declined:

All requests will be reviewed by a committee of at least (3) veterans and a PARD representative. The judgment of the committee will be final.

Cost of Veterans Plaque

The cost of a veterans plaque is $60 per plaque. This cost will cover purchase and installation of your veteran’s plaque as well as be used to defray the costs of plaques purchased by the Veterans Committee to recognize veterans with MIA/KIA/POW status. The Round Rock Veterans Monument Committee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization* and all funds will be used for purchase, installation, and upkeep of the Veterans Monument. Checks should be made payable to “Homecoming Development Corporation” and attached to your recognition form.
