I am so grateful for our Catholic schools! Over my 20+ years in Catholic education, I have met and worked with some wonderful people that have inspired me in many ways. Thank you for supporting us in our mission. Thank you for all you do to help your child develop a relationship with Christ. This is what is most important! We all live in a confused world, where we often receive mixed-up messages. But our Catholic faith is grounded in Truth, which is why our Catholic schools are more important than ever. Let us continue to work together to help each other get to heaven! Thank you for your cooperation in making the morning drop-off run more smoothly and safely. I have heard several comments from parents that things are going pretty well with the new procedure. Our Home and School Association (which includes YOU) is a vital part of our school community. When getting involved in the Association, you help shape our school in many positive ways. This year, we have a number of volunteer spots that have openings. Please consider volunteering for one of the following positions: 1. Co-Head scrip – need 2 volunteers 2. Home and School Vice-President – need 1 volunteer 3. Co-Head Room Mom – need 1 volunteer 4. Monday scrip orderer – need 2 volunteers 5. Friday scrip counter – need 1 volunteer These are all 2-year terms, and parents who get involved often comment how they learn so much about our school and get to know other parents better. Again, please consider getting involved! Thank you for supporting Catholic education! Spring Concert Sunday, March 3 “The Breman Town Musicians” Grades K – 5

Catholic Schools Week 2019By Cheryl Zoucha, Principal

As we are preparing this newsletter, we are in the midst of Catholic Schools Week.

Please consider volunteering for one of the following positions:

1. Co-Head scrip – need 2 volunteers2. Home and School Vice-President – need 1 volunteer3. Co-Head Room Mom – need 1 volunteer4. Monday scrip orderer – need 2 volunteers5. Friday scrip counter – need 1 volunteer

These are all 2-year terms, and parents who get involved often comment how they learn so much about our school and get to know other parents better. Again, please consider getting involved!

Thank you for supporting Catholic education!

Walk to JerusalemSt. Bonaventure Church is participating

in the Walk to Jerusalem program. Participants will log their miles each week to collectively walk all the miles from Columbus, NE to Jerusalem. This program encourages an increase in physical activity, spiritual growth and cultural awareness as we learn about geographical locations along the way.

The St. Bon’s students will be contributing to the program. Before school each day we will estimate the distance the students walked together that morning in the Social Hall. The program begins Jan. 27th and ends at Easter.

Safe EnvironmentsSafe Environments classes have been offered throughout the year. All parents need to be Safe Environment trained to volunteer for fieldtrips etc. We are not given a list of who has completed the course, so please inform the school office after you take it. We want to keep our records as up to date as we can so the teachers can plan their field trips.

Influenza in the AreaInfluenza is in the Columbus area. St.

Bonaventure Elementary has been very fortunate to not have very many sick students. The East Central District Health Department has the following recommendations to prevent the spread of influenza:  Stay home when you are sick, especially if you have a fever. Follow treatment instructions given by your healthcare provider. Stay at home until fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication  Get vaccinated each year, still is a good time to get the vaccine, flu season is until May  If you are sick do not go to gatherings Keep social distance of 3 feet when possible during flu season  Cover your cough with the inside of your elbow.  Wash your hands frequently using soap besides using hand sanitizer.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Do not chew on your fingers or other objects  Avoid sharing make-up, silverware or drinking from the same cup/bottle

Catholic Schools Week

On Tuesday of Catholic Schools Week, the students formed families by including one student from each grade level. They picked a family name, made crosses and played games. It was great to see the unity of our students. Below are a few “families”.

On Tuesday evening families joined together for a potluck supper. They also put together over 100 care packages for cancer patients! Awesome job! Thanks to everyone for the wonderful donations.

Please make sure all students wear hats, gloves or mittens every day to school. It can be a cold walk to Scotus for lunch if you are

not properly dressed!!!
