We marked the day, December 14, 2011 me and my co architecture students went to San Sebastian church in Legarda near the school of College of San Beda. But in our plan it’s not only the church we are oblique to visit. The other two places mentioned were “The National Museum” and “bahay Nakpil”. Well first I want to tell something about our journey. Should I say it’s been fun? Its really a tiring day for us. There’s a lot of things happened before we came to San Sebastian church. Our clique was divided into two because we’re too many. Some rid in our friend’s pick-up car and some decided to commute. And I was one of them. We departed at Anonas, Cubao at 4:30pm in the afternoon. We don’t know if we can still visit the National Museum because according to our source, the National Museum will be close at exactly 5pm. We still hope we can reach the museum before it closes. Yet we failed, the Museum was closed. As I said before we are divided into two groups and in my group it’s funny and yet annoying because we got lost. We always asked somebody what was the right thing to do to go, what was the right place to go through in which we will not get lost. Haha,

Haha, unfortunately we’re lost still. Anyway we didn’t come to bahay Nakpil because it was already in the evening. We reschedule our next site visit on December 20, 2011. I wish we could visit the National Museum and Bahay Nakpil successfully.

Anyways, let me continue from what I am discussing to you guys. We traveled the long road polluted area of Manila, well sorry for my terms though, and then at last we finally reached San Sebastian Church. The sun is out, the moon rules the night, the cold wind touch my skin and it makes me feel colder. I stood in front of the church. The architecture is very simple. “Simplicity”, one word to describe the church. The simplicity of the church captivates my eyes.

Invading and observing the church. I discovered that some part of the church was made of steel. The post you see to the left was made of steel. It doesn’t look like it was steel but really it is. San Sebastian Church is a gothic architecture by the way. The thing that defines it as gothic was its pointed arch, the sign of gothic architecture. The church has a tall, thin columns –

“stretching up as if to heaven” and use of flying buttresses weighted by pinnacles. The whole church was painted by a very little green color and white for its details. Those things were very observable.

I keep on walking and as I stepped my each of my feet and enter the church, I am really stunned and astonished of what I saw. I mean, whoa! It’s really... Yeah what can I say? It’s awesome, beautiful, what a great church. The facade captivates my eyes, and the interior of the church? It really captivates my soul. That’s the best church I ever seen in my life! Every bit, every corner has its own detail which makes its more beautiful and fascinating. The center of the church as seen in the picture consists of three pointed arch. If you see it closer the arches was design by gold motiffs I think.

These three pictures is what I saw inside the church. The left corner picture is the view of the aisle from the very center of the church going behind. They give a large space for the aisle. The middle picture was a saint. I noticed that every saint inside the church got like as if this is their house. And the last picture is a wreath which we all know it uses the church because Christmas is coming, the birth of Jesus Christ.

I also found these two pictures inside the church. In the left picture every posts have this kind of a thing. I don’t know what really it is but I think it is one of the assets of the church. It has a pretty good design. I didn’t see this thing in the other church I already visited. In the right picture was a sculpture. In the bottom of it, I read “pondo ng Pinoy”.

I really enjoy the day we visited San Sebastian church. I learned a lot of things about churches and different styles of architecture. By this church that Philippines have, it made me proud to be a Filipino especially to be a Catholic.
