Look for the classmate hidden in the picture!

If you’d like to be featured in our weekly plans, send me a picture of you reading or being outside. Or reading outside!

This week you’ll be combining all your skills to write a paper! I know papers aren’t your favorite, but they are undeniably important. The goal is that we use language to say thoughtful things (content) and in the clearest way possible (grammar).

Paper Details:

You’ll be writing about a virtue. Take a look at the rubric before picking what the virtue you want to write about. You may not pick self-discipline because I’ve used it as an example. This should be typed directly into your OneNote in the “Writing” tab on the “BOV Paper 1” page. Type the paper above the rubric that I have on that page. DO. NOT. DELETE. THE. RUBRIC. PLEEEEEASE. Use the standard setting for font and font size. (Calibri, 11) This paper will be a test grade. Extra Credit for turning in the full paper early.

o 7 points for turning it in on Wednesday, April 15th by 11:59pmo 5 points for turning it in on Thursday, April 16th by 11:59pm o In order to get these bonus points, you must email a Word document to me by that date. That is NOT a

substitute for turning it in on OneNote. You need to do both.

Page 2: content.schoolinsites.com€¦  · Web viewIn order to get these bonus points, you must email a Word document to me by that date. That is NOT a substitute for turning it in on OneNote

o If you choose to not participate in turning in the paper early, there is not a need to email me the paper.

This paper is due by 11:59pm on Friday, April 17th.

Grammar: As always, your paper should be as relatively free of grammar mistakes as possible. Here is a list of things, I’m especially looking for:

Spelling. If a word has a squiggle red line underneath, right click on the word and to see suggestions. Spelling mistakes are easier to catch on a computer!

Correct use of they’re, their, and there Commas in compound sentences (comma and then coordinating conjunction) Commas in complex sentences. If the subordinate clause comes first in the sentence, there is a comma after

that. Commas with an introductory phrase. (For example, this sentence is an example.)

Writing Style: I’m looking for variety in your writing. Use simple, compound, and complex sentences.

If you look at this paper all at once, you will get overwhelmed. Look at what you need to do for each day.

I’ve portioned out your work for the week. Follow the outline and you’ll be just fine!

Monday:

Vocab p. 186-190, post in your “Vocabulary” tab.

Tuesday:

Write paragraph two and three.

Wednesday:

Write paragraph one.

Thursday:

Write paragraph four.

Friday:

Write paragraph five.

And voila!

Writing Style: I’m looking for variety in your writing. Use simple, compound, and complex sentences.

Your essay should be 5 paragraphs. Each paragraph has a specific purpose.

First Paragraph: Introductory Paragraph Content

Tell us where we see this virtue in everyday life without telling us what the virtue is. Theeeen. tell us what the virtue is. I have an example below.

By reading this paragraph, your reader should definitely know what virtue you’ve picked. This may be a shorter paragraph, and that’s okay. You’ll still need to include an introductory sentence and a concluding sentence. Example of an introductory paragraph: You know exactly what you need to do. You need to write a paper.

You’ve read the instructions, you’ve thought about it, and you’ve imagined sitting down in front of the computer. Then, you actually pull up the page and begin typing. Then you remember that your dog needs water. While you’re up, you get yourself a glass of water too. Oh, and a snack! 20 minutes later, you’re back at the computer. Then, you check your email and social media. 10 minutes later, there is nothing typed on the page...We’re all guilty of knowing what to do and then not doing it. There is a virtue that we’re missing: self-

discipline. Self-discipline is one of the most important virtues for students to have, especially during this quarantine time.

Second Paragraph: Paragraph Defining Virtue Content

Provide the definition of the virtue. You can also include what the virtue is NOT. Read the intro pages to the virtue as inspiration This paragraph may be short, and that’s fine. You’ll still need to include an introductory sentence and a concluding sentence.

Third Paragraph: Paragraph about example from the Book of Virtues Content

Pick a story or poem from the book and tell us about it. Give a short description of the story/poem. Tell us why that story relates to the virtue. You’ll still need to include an introductory sentence and a concluding sentence.

Fourth Paragraph: Paragraph about 3 ways to Demonstrate the Virtue Content

This paragraph will be a 3-point paragraph. Pick three ways that a student like you could demonstrate that quality and explain each point. Use serious examples. You’ll still need to include an introductory sentence and a concluding sentence.

Fifth Paragraph: Concluding Paragraph Content

Retell the definition of the virtue. Tell us what life would look like with this virtue. How would your life be better because of this virtue?
