Exploration Camera Angles

How extreme can I make my camera angles whilst still maintaining the narrative?

I will take four/five photos of the scene and then conduct a survey or a focus group to determine their opinion on each shot

Experimentation

Colourising objects in avid

Do I have the skill to colourise standalone objects in my footage?

I will shoot some test footage – making a cup of tea, and then practice in avid if it is possible to colourise the teacup.

Areas of research that need to be detailed in your Research Plan

15 Nerdtastic Facts About Scott Pilgrim –IFC

Scott Pilgrim- Make Your Transitions Count by NerdWriter1

5 Reasons Scott Pilgrim’s Cinematography is Epic by Aputure

Experimentation

Camera How can I in cooperate different angles into my scenes to make them more interesting?

Take a number of the same shots each with different techniques and get an outside source to critic which camera techniques work best with the shot.

Page 7: lhpftv2018.files.wordpress.com  · Web view…. I’d much rather say hello. Hello is a new adventure (Harwell, 2018) Figure 1 Hola Image (Google 2018) Figure 2 Hello Splash (Google

Lighting What kind of lighting can I use for a party?

Although I have my own LED panel, I would need some different colour gels to match the ambiance of the party or use coloured LEDs alone which I also have at my expense.

Sound What would we expect to hear at a party/ gathering

We would try to record conversations of different actors at the party and use their voices to fill the background. Their voices will be inaudible so therefore doesn’t break the rule of Hello being use. Music from a speaker could also be heard.

Editing What range of speed is needed for the transitions?

I will record a few clips and experiment transitioning them together and changing the speeds of them throughout the film, for example will the transitions be slower at the beginning off the film and then the speed pics up as the film develops.

Exploration

Location Do I have access to enough locations?

I have access to my house and my street in which I will film most of scenes in my room and the conservatory.

Props Do I need any props?

I would need some red plastic cups for the actors to hold along with cigarettes for people who would smoke outside. The main character would also need a phone to hold

Character

How many characters will I use?

There will only be 4 characters and the rest will be extras but only one of the four will be reoccurring through the film.

Target Genre What For this short film I rely on the emotional

Audience elements are needed to make a drama

relationship of realistic characters.

Competition- Media Review

Who’s the competition

The completion is other British drama like Casualty or EastEnders etc.

Pathway

Project Title Hello Project

Section 1 : Rationale (approx. 100 words) Minimum 90 Maximum 110

What is your project about? My project is about a boy trying to get through a boring house party

What is your overall area of interest? What are you trying to say? I am particularly interested in the idea that not everyone enjoys parties or going out to places with large gatherings

What information is essential for the audience to understand so that they can fully engage with your project? It is important that the audience understands why the main character does not want to be at

Page 17: lhpftv2018.files.wordpress.com  · Web view…. I’d much rather say hello. Hello is a new adventure (Harwell, 2018) Figure 1 Hola Image (Google 2018) Figure 2 Hello Splash (Google

the party otherwise the whole story is pointless.

What is important about your project that will capture the interest of the audience? I think the music and lighting can incorporate can capture the audience’s attention. Not to mention the physical language given from the characters help the audience really engage

Summarise your progress and achievements through the first 4 units of the qualifications.

Section 2 : Project Concept (approx. 200 words) Minimum 180 Maximum 220

This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, the research and ideas that will support is development, what you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realization within the allocated timescale.

Answer the following questions:-

What is the media format i.e. video, documentary etc? My media format is a short film.

What is the aim of your project? What are you trying to say/achieve? I am trying to say that parties aren’t always fun for everyone. For some people it’s not their cup of tea to get drunk or take drugs amongst a crowd of people.

What or who are your major influences? Identify them in the major elements of your project. My biggest influence is myself. Because I don’t drink nor take drugs it seems like it’s the only way to enjoy house parties which I think is sad. I also took heavy inspiration from the look of house parties from shows like the inbetweeners and skins. Another influence was from looking at Alessia Cara’s music video for ‘Here’ which tells the story of how she dosent want to be a part of a party.

What will you research? I will research the genre of drama however I couldn’t put a definitive genre on my short film. I will use the following research points from my literature review

https://www.ifc.com/2015/03/15-things-you-probably-didnt-know-about-scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world

Who is your target audience? My target audience are young adults who feel like they don’t really fit into the society’s social standards or people who have bad experiences with parties.

Explain your role in the project? My role will be writer and director.

Explain technical requirements of your project? I have my own DSLR for shooting the film however I would probably need some more led panels and gels for coloured lighting. I would also need a microphone and boom pole for background noise and the characters

5 Reasons Scott Pilgrim’s Cinematography is Epic by Aputure

Section 3 : Evaluation (approx. 50 words) Minimum 45- Maximum 55

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on and evaluate your work, as both an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of the project. You should describe:-

How do you intend to record your decision making?

And

How will you document changes to your ideas as the project progresses?

I will keep a production diary and make notes of any problems during, before and after production to help better my decisions when putting together the final product

The evaluation section should reference your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather than a description of actions to be completed.

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)

This section provides an opportunity to record the initial research sources, that you intend to use.

Your sources of research should be as wide as possible and could include libraries, galleries, books, theatre, cinema visits, films, videos, magazines, tv and radio programmes, computer games, websites, blogs, social media, archive material and other media and multi-media sources.

Make sure you use the Harvard Referencing system

SHOOTING SCRIPTA Shooting Script has two purpose.

1) It makes you pay attention to the script and storyboard and ensures that you film all the required footage at a specific location. You would always film all the shots for each location at the same time.

2) It makes you consider the order that you film. Think about a conversation, and shot reverse shot. You film character 1, their entire part of the conversation. You then film character 2, their entire part of the conversation. Then you would film the over the shoulder shots, then the establishing shots… that is what a shooting script is for.

My scenario is to have a boy at a house party who doesn't want to be there. People try to talk to him but he just wants to be left alone. He eventually goes to bed but finds a couple in his room. He kicks them out and goes to bed with a smile finally on his face

My short film is going to consist of a number of scenes in one location which will be my house. Places in my house will include my conservatory, the hall/ stairs and my bedroom.

The first scene will start off with an establishing shot of the house with some people walking towards the door, it will then cut to their feet as the door opens and they enter and walk out to the back where the party is being held. There will be a montage of different activities at the party like drinking and smoking and then we cut to a boy by himself on the sofa.

The next scene is a friend of his who sits down with him on the sofa. He says hello but there’s no reply. He offers him drink and a cigarette but the boy declines the offers. His mate leaves and re-joins the party. The boy lays back on the sofa and goes on his phone, a time-lapse then starts as we see the party carry on around him as he sits there still on his phone.

The third scene starts further on in the night after the time-lapse. The main character gets up decides to go to bed. He leaves the conservatory and goes into the hall, he walks up the stairs past members on the party with drinks in their hand and reaches the landing. But he can hear someone in his room.

In the final scene the boy makes his way to his bedroom and finds two people in his bed. He coughs to get their attention and says hello in a sarcastic manner, the couple are embarrassed and then put on their clothes off camera and walk out of the room. The boy then final changes into his pyjamas and jumps into bed. He smiles before he turns the lamp beside his bed off. The end
