Message From the Principal-Joseph Cocozello

As we all know, the month of November is a time when we often reflect on the things and people in our lives that we are grateful for. For the first time in my life, I am adding the opportunity to be in school to my list. Not one to take anything for granted, I have to say that I took going to school for granted. I never thought that something can and would prevent us from going to school for an extended period of time. With that said, more than ever I am truly grateful to be able to go into our school building, see the beautiful smiles and feel the love that exists. Blessed Sacrament School is so special because of the wonderful children that fill its classrooms every day. The reality is the building that exists at 830 Delafield Avenue is exactly that, a building. The students that occupy that building are “Blessed Sacrament School” and I speak on behalf of our entire faculty and staff when I say that we are blessed to be part of this wonderful school community! Turning to academics, the first marking period is now behind us. Overall I could not be more pleased with the report cards. Hats off to our students who are not only handling this adversity but beating it up!I would also like to commend our teachers for their continuous efforts in being the best they can be. When you put it in perspective, every one of our teachers is new to what they are doing. None of them have ever taught remotely, while teaching

students in front of them.

On a more disappointing note, whereas we would normally be preparing for our annual Christmas Fair, unfortunately there has been nothing more than academics so far this year. I often tell prospective families when they are touring that our parents are very active in fundraising and volunteering their time provide our students with special events and activities. Although quite a few parents have reached out to me with suggestions and ideas, at this time I feel most comfortable taking as cautious an approach as possible. Every day we get to be together is a blessing and it is my hope we can continue to stay safe and keep our school building open. Patience is a virtue. I am confident that we will get past this and more enjoyable days lie ahead.

Best wishes to all of our families for a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.1 Thessalonians 5:18

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT- Anne Marie Melgar

____________________________________

Dear BSS Families:

I would like to begin by introducing myself, my name is Anne Marie Melgar. My son Vincent is a 2nd grader. We have been part of the BSS Family for many years. I was a student at Blessed Sacrament and graduated in 1997.

I would like to thank the Nominating Committee for considering me as president of the Family Guild and for their dedication, hard work, and thoughtfulness in assembling this group of women who will serve alongside me. I would also like to thank and congratulate the last Guild Officers on a job well done! You should all be proud of all of your accomplishments.

The Family Guild functions as a fundraising group and also acts as a portal for communication between home and school. As we have already seen thus far, this will be an unprecedented school year, full of new challenges as well as unique opportunities for us to grow and evolve together as a school community. In order to keep with the guidelines given by the Archdiocese of New York and the Department of Health all school events will be cancelled until further notice.

We all would like to extend our promise of commitment to making our time as your Family Guild Board as productive and enjoyable as possible.
