UNIT 5 CONTEXTUAL INFLUENCES IN ART & DESIGN – BEETLE DESIGN (OBSERVATION ART)

Introduction:

I was assigned a brief about using our creative minds to create a beetle design out of art that has already been done by creative artists from minor works to major art movements in time.

I had to first decide which images I would be using and begin to state why I had chosen these images. I then must use images within this word document to state my reason about why I had chosen them.

I had come up with a design of my own design that I am happy to use within my work.

I had used to create my beetle via Photoshop various tools that was available to me. One of these being the dodge & burn tool which helped highlight my beetle design to make it more 3D and giving off the shadow effect.

All my work that is done will be presented within a professional manner with the decisions I had made with my design choices and wording to produce the outcome at the end.

Research:

I had consisted my research of searching artists via the internet and using artist that my college has shown me, I had chosen these artists below for the purpose of my work because how I like the design choice and detail within the work that can work with my own.

Beetle Design:

Digital:Artist – Raven DymmockWhy:This is because I felt that I could be considered to be a part of the work of artist in the list that I used as of the work and dedication I have managed to produce and do over the years of creating art and using my imagination to draw away.

About:I proceeded to have a fascination for artwork at the age of 7, during that time I would doodle away my imagination when I wasn’t doing anything else for hours on end, I was born in 1997 and I started doing digital artwork when I was 13, by 17 I started producing my current artwork and not much to date has improved since then but I am looking to improve to better myself in the future.

Celtic ArtWhy:The reason why I have this type of art is because of the fantastic Celtic artwork that is produced by him whom deserved a spot within my digital work and has been renowned for its work through the ages.

About:This is a Celtic art whom I find very interesting there are many art in Celtic design. Celtic art was associated with the Celtic people who spoke their own language in pre-history Europe through to modern times now. Celtic art is known as a difficult term to define which covers a huge expanse of time, cultures and geography. The Celtic people long ago and to now are renowned for their impressive art work.

Paper:Artist – Gustav KlimtWhy:The reason I have chosen this artist is because of the fascinating artwork this artist produces and had helped pieced together my mechanical beetle, I would like to know more about this artist work so I had done some research.

About:Gustav Klimt was born in Baumgarten, near Vienna whom was the second child of seven, he and two others had displayed artistic talent at a very young age.

Klimt went to Vienna school for Arts & Crafts in 1876 where he remained studying there until 1883. During the time, there he had received training as an architectural painter.

During 1888, Klimt had received the Golden Order of Merit from Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria for his contributions in art. Little Later he then became an honorary member of University of Munich & the University of Vienna.

Artist – Raven DymmockWhy:This is because of my artwork contains metal looking designs or plate which I had decided I would cut these parts out of my design in a copy of the originals to help produce my mechanical beetle on paper.

Artist – HR GigerWhy:The reason I have chosen this artist is because of the professional art he has produced over the years of his life and how it intrigues me to know more and was a good addition to what I built out on paper which lead to a mechanical looking beetle.

About:HR Giger was born in 1940 in a chemist’s family in Chur, Switzerland. He went and studied architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts. Within 1964 he began to produce his final works which were mostly ink drawings & oil paintings which then had resulted in his first solo exhibition in 1966 where followed by a world-wide distribution of his first poster edition in 1969.

Giger had produced many books too, his most famous one was Necronomicon which was published in 1977 and had then served as a visual inspiration for director Ridley Scott’s film Alien.“Hans Ruedi”, Giger was known to the world as HR Giger whom had passed away on Monday 12th May 2014 at the age of 74.

Artist – Alchemy 1977Why:The reason I have chosen this artist is because the artwork is amazingly produced and very dark and gritty which is what I liked about the artist the most, they allowed me to help piece together a mechanical looking beetle .

About:Alchemy 1977 has been around since 1977, since then have produced amazing gothic style artwork and sold numerous styles of art but that’s not all they did, they also sold other daily things that were used such as pipes & calendars which had their own artwork design and have their own little museum dedicated to old things that they no longer reproduce such as things for smoking.

Celtic ArtWhy:The reason I have chosen this artist is because the Celtic art is very interesting with the designs that are available and are suited for all sorts of things especially if it was either mechanical or a gritty looking design and I hope I can use more of this sort of art in the future.

Evaluation My Evaluation of what I have done is pretty well, the outcome was good although not superb it went rather well however I could have done some improvement with my digital beetle and have brought in more designs but other than I really enjoyed my mechanical beetle I had done on paper.
