History Time CapsuleI would love to make a time capsule for Junior and Senior Infants to open when they are in 5 th and 6th

Geography-Where I live?

Usually at this time of the year in school we would be outside looking at birds, wildflowers and minibeasts on nature walks. Now at home it would be great if you could go outside and have a look around at nature on our doorstep.

Write down the names of anything you see and maybe draw a picture of them.

Science-Rocket

Maybe you were lucky to see the space launch last week from NASA base with Space X, today you can try some of these rocket experiments with some adult help.

I N S T R U C T I O N S – H O W T O M A K E A B O T T L E R O C K E T

Push the needle adaptor of the pump through the cork, it needs to go all the way through so you might have to trim the cork a little bit.

Decorate the bottle with the cone and fins.

Fill the bottle one quarter full of water and push the cork in tightly.

Take the bottle outside and connect the pump to the needle adaptor. Ours wouldn’t stand up on the fins so we rested it on a box, but if you make some strong fins it should stand up by itself.

Pump air into the bottle, making sure all spectators stand back, the bottle will lift

off with force after a few seconds.

Coaching Tips1. Try to push off as hard as you can from your starting point when the Tester shouts

How to PreparePerfect the ‘standing start’ or ‘three-point start’ by practicing every day.

Improve your reaction time by asking your Tester to call “Go” at the start of your practice sprints.

Practice 3 sprints over your allocated distance every day.

To improve Hip to Lip technique:

Start by sitting on the ground with your chest up, moving hands and pointed fingers from Hip to Lip. Try keeping your elbows bent.

Progress by standing on the spot moving hands only. Then, march on the spot with hands moving in co-ordination with knees. Move from a march to a jog, before finally finishing with super speed sprint on the

impact and bring your arms forward to help you maintain your balance. Imagine there is glue on the soles of your feet when landing.

How to PreparePractice your vertical jump squats to get used to sticking your landing before taking on the Long Jump.Then start with a short forward jump and focus on sticking your landing before trying to jump for distance. ICT-ComputersUsually in third three Infants would visit the computer room to complete some tasks. If you have access to a laptop or computer your child could practice simple activities such as

-typing their name on a word document

-typing their spellings/sight vocabulary

-Using paint programs to learn to use the mouse

-Take a picture with a digital camera and include it in their word document.

-Learn key features and terminology of computers.

Art-Recycle Art

Try to let your child use old boxes/cartons/bottles to make into their own creations. The more imaginative the better. Try to get them to cut, stick and paint as much as possible. Remember it doesn’t have to look perfect but that your child does as much of the activity as possible.
