Hastings College/Career Center Scholarship Newsletter
February 2020The Newsletter will be available every month in the College & Career Center. You may also access it on the Hastings HS Home Page www.aliefisd.net. Go to Counselors, click on the tab, and you will see College/ Career Center.
Searching for scholarships is an ongoing project. If you even think you might qualify for the scholarship, submit an application. Additional sources for scholarship money may include religious organizations, civic organizations and employers. Scholarship donors will NOT come searching for you. YOU must search for them!
You may need to obtain an official transcript. Allow five working days for the transcript to be processed. Please give yourself and the staff enough time for the process.
If you do not need an official transcript, you may print it out from your home access, Counselor, Counselors Secretary or your AP’s Office.
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO REGISTRATION DEADLINES.
The College/Career Center is here to assist you with your future plans!

Scholarship TIPSTip 1: Here’s a simple tip that can make writing an essay
much easier. Instead of writing the answer, answer the essay question out loud while recording the answer. Then
transcribe the recording, adding structure to the response. This technique works well because people speak at about 200
words per minute, while they write or type at about 30-60 words per minute.
Tip 2: Apply for the $500 dollar scholarships! Not many do, therefore, your chances of winning are higher.
Tip 3: Keep a folder with copies of essays and resumes. You will notice many scholarships have the same essay topic.
Tip 5: Make sure you are eligible to apply.
Tip 4: DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO APPLY
