Improving outcomes for older people Bringing different communities together Improving provision and support for unemployed people Improving the local environment

When the Nelson Community Panel was formed the main stake holders in the area were invited to a meeting and asked if they would like to be involved. These included representatives from the two local community centres Buckland Community Centre and Stamshaw Community Centre and other local groups - the Stamshaw & Tipner Neighbourhood Forum, North End Neighbourhood Forum, the Scouts & Cubs leader, the Faith group leader from St Marks church, local residents who were existing Block Reps were invited and those interested came along. People working with the local community in the area at the time were also included.

Everyone was asked what their priorities were for the area. It was felt that local people who lived and worked in the area would know what was needed.

The priorities were decided upon using the statistical information available from the super output areas and the last census. We have also looked at current information from the 2011 census information and the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment from Portsmouth City Council to make priorities are on track. We have looked at other action plans active in the area, such as the Environment action plan and the Children's Centre Action plan and we aimed to complement existing plans and to provide additional benefits and facilities for local people. In addition we have researched the internet and studied online statistics. (See links included below).

DELIVERY

With all this information in mind priorities were set which could be broadly applied to a number of activities. We aim to support applications that meet one or more these priorities and openly seek to fill those that have not been covered.

This will ensure we have complied with priorities agreed on by the panel and stakeholders. To help make sure we raised awareness of the Nelson Community Panel opportunities we had open day sessions where we informed local people at the Buckland and the Stamshaw Community Centres. At these events we gave out leaflets about how to apply for funding and what the priorities are.

The panel have a web blog to let people know of our existence and to help apply for funding. Letting everyone know via the blog about meetings, how they can get help and advice on filling in forms from our panel partner St Marks Church.

Two panel members can update information on the blog, letting people know how much funding has been applied for and what priorities we are aiming to cover. We give examples of how funding has been spent locally. Offering support, advice with applications and assistance of the panel partner for those not having their own individual bank account.

Nelson Community Panel Future Actions - a snapshot of our situation and this could change.
