We are learning strategies for solving multiplication equations, including skip counting a viable strategy that shows patterns in numbers. I am sending home multiplication cards for students to begin practicing and eventually memorize so these facts become known facts. We will then move on to Division. Math homework will be due by the end of the school week. Fifth Grade Reading We are continuing our work in Step 4 of the Wilson Reading Program-long vowel-silent e, including digraphs and blends and 1 syllable and multi- syllable words. Students are reading sentences and paragraphs that include these word patterns. We are continuing to write our Fundamental Writing Words essential to everyday writing. We are working heavily on the reading structures of identifying the main idea and details, visualizing, and comparing and contrasting as we read various text passages.

Important NotesReading booklets/comprehension sheets, are due each Friday with a parent signature. These books increase your child’s confidence in their oral reading and are important as they help to increase his/her reading fluency. Hurry Spring!
