Suggested List of Work For Week of 8th June 2020 Class: Senior Infants

Note: Hello everyone. Hope you enjoyed the activities from last week’s grid. This week will be a similar layout. Below is a list of suggested work for Literacy and Maths as well as lots of lovely activities in the below grid. This week’s theme is ‘Transport’. Try as many of the activities as you like and don’t forget to post your videos and pictures on your Classdojo portfolio. We love seeing all your work. We have a new ‘Beat the Teacher’ challenge this week! Post a video on your portfolio to be in with a chance of winning a €10 voucher!Have fun!

Ms Leonard & Mrs O’Regan Monday Reading: Stop that Dog p.22+23 New word: stop. Word work: words that end in ‘er’; we only hear the ‘r’ sound so need to remember

when writing/spelling these words to add the ‘e’ too. Examples: sister, teacher, later, mother. Can you list some more?Writing unscramble the sentence (below - if you are unable to print the worksheets, please write into a copy)Word Family: “in” Write 5 words using the alphabet strip. Try to think of words that you haven’t used beforeMaths: Planet Maths p.126 Extra ideas: Name 2 light/heavy animals, types of fruit, vegetables. Name an animal which is lighter/heavier than a dog. Name 2 heavy and 2 light objects in your kitchen. Name something heavier/lighter/about the same as this book. Which is heavier – a golf ball or a tennis ball? Are heavy things always big? Can you name a small item that is heavy? Can you name a big object that is light? How can we discover the correct weight of an item?

Tuesday Reading: Stop that Dog p.24+25. New word: stop. Grammar work: Rule: when 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and he says his name. “ump” says /A/ paint, rail, rain, train, wait – can you read those words correctly?Writing: unscramble the sentenceWord Family: Write 5 words using the alphabet stripMaths: Planet Maths p.127. Extra ideas: Place a variety of items of differing weight and mass on a table and ask you son to choose 2 items to form a comparison through handling. The range of items should include small/large/heavy items such as stones and hard back books; and small/large/light objects such as an empty box, a large sponge or plastic drink bottle. Encourage your son to estimate which items are heavy/light and to use the appropriate vocabulary.

Wednesday Reading: Stop that Dog p26+27. New words: garden, ring. Word work: “happy” has a ‘y’ at the end that sounds like an ‘e’. We say there are 5 vowels, remember the vowel hand? But we draw “y” on the palm because y has magic powers that can take the name of some of the vowels. Where ‘y’ sounds like ‘e’: sunny, party, candy, sorry. Where ‘y’ sounds like ‘i’: my, cry, fly, shy, tryWriting: unscramble the sentenceWord Family: “end” Write 5 words using the alphabet stripMaths: Planet Maths p.128 (last page) Extra ideas: use objects to practice adding 3 items together. Eg: Benny gas 2 blue crayons, 2 red crayons and 4 yellow crayons. How many crayons does he have altogether?
