Critically analyse and interpret situations involving probability or chance. 2. Interpret and understand the probability range scale. 3. Express probability of an event in the form of fractions, percentages and decimal notation. 4. Differentiate between relative frequency and theoretical probability. 5. Distinguish between an event and an outcome in terms of probability. 6. Recognise that expressions of probability are predictions of the future based on events of the past. 7. Recognise that expressions of probability only predict the outcome trend over a large period of time and cannot accurately predict the outcome of single events. 8. Determine when the outcome of one event will impact on the outcome of another and when it will not. 9. Identify possible outcomes for compound events using tree diagrams and two-way tables. LEARNING OUTCOMES The learners will be able to:

EXPANDED OPPORTUNITIES: Read the weather forecast and ask the class what is the probability or chance that it will rain or the sun will shine according to the forecast

shown in the newspaper. Obtain an old lotto ticket and determine the probability of winning or losing in the national lottery jackpot. Have a jar of astros or smarties and ask the learners what is the probability or chance of selecting a specific colour.
