Key Vocabulary

Author – the person who writes the story.Illustrator – the person who illustrates the story.Narrator – the person who tells the story.Conjunction – Connects two clauses in a sentence.Simile – Compares two things using ‘like’ or ‘as.’ For example, she was as fast as lightening. Pattern of three – 3 words to emphasise an idea or feeling, these could be adverbs or adjectives. Angry, annoyed and frustrated, the boy searched high and low. This could also be 3 short sentences to add impact. Adverbs – describe the verb. It describes how/when/where and why something is being done.

Angela McAllister is an established picture book author of over 70 books. Her books have won several awards, whilst the picture book, Leon and the Place Between has been adapted for the stage. Other books she has written include Winters Child, Wild World and A Mouse So Small.

Enid Blyton was a well-known English story writer; whose books are still enormously popular and have been translated into 90 languages. She wrote on a wide range of topics including education, adventure, fantasy, mystery, and biblical narratives and is best remembered today for The Famous Five and Secret Seven series besides The Faraway Tree series.

Anthony Browne was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire. He is a British writer and illustrator of children's books, primarily picture books with fifty titles to his name.Browne's debut book both as writer and as illustrator was Through the Magic Mirror, in 1976. A Walk in the Park followed next year and Bear Hunt (1979) and The Tunnel later on in 1989.
