Ultimately this position is responsible to the Principal via the Director of Corporate Services. Position Objective: The position of Head of Sport Development and High Performance is to drive improvements in Westminster School’s Co-Curricular Sport programs, focusing on performance and participation. The Head of Sport Development and High Performance will apply their professional expertise to develop, implement and maintain a strategic plan for Sports Performance and Development that aligns with the School’s mission for Sport and Physical Activity: developing the potential within each student through engagement in sport and physical activity. Key Responsibilities: 1. Strategic improvement of Co-Curricular Sports program a) Conduct ongoing reviews of both the overall sports department program including roles, structures and processes as well as individual programs b) Maintain and review the Sports program strategic plan to achieve high performance in sport, with feedback from and buy-in by key stakeholders c) Manage change in line with strategic goals d) Set, measure and report on objectives and targets 2. Sports leadership and administration (Reception to Year 12): a) Foster and promote parallel and complementary cultures of participation and excellence in sport across the School community

Key Relationships

The Head of Sport Development and High Performance reports to the Head of Activities and directly manages the work of the Senior and Preparatory School Co-Curricular Sport leaders. Ultimately this position is responsible to the Principal via the Director of Corporate Services.

2. Sports leadership and administration (Reception to Year 12): a) Foster and promote parallel and complementary cultures of participation and excellence in sport across

the School communityb) Form strong links with leaders of sport programs and other key stakeholdersc) Lead and manage the Co-Curricular Sports leadership team d) Oversee and advise on the staffing of sporting programs.e) Plan and manage the communications required for a successful sports program, including web pages and

internal and external publicityf) Assist with the marketing and promotion of sporting opportunities and achievements at the School and

assist the Development Office with enrolments of talented student-athletes to the Schoolg) Assist with the preparation and management of program budgets for Sport.h) Oversee purchasing and maintenance of resources for use in Sport programs.i) Co-ordinate matters relating to the health, safety and welfare of staff and students engaged in sport

activities.

j) Oversee and manage existing and future High performance Academies including relationship management of external partners, consulting with the Director of Corporate Services on contractual obligations

k) Work with individual students in the high performance pathways and their families to set and manage training and competition loads, mentor and liaise with the Director of Learning and external colleges regarding academic load recommendations and modifications.

l) Coordinate evening workshops for high performance sport families to provide access to industry experts from a broad suite of support servicing mediums

m) Expand and galvanise community partnerships and service relationships between Westminster School’s Sports Program and Club, State, Institute and National stakeholders in consultation with the Director of Corporate Services.

3. Development of student performance and development/participationa) Monitor student performance and participation levels through direct observation and data analysisb) Oversee and mentor coaches within agreed guidelines

Other Responsibilities: All staff are expected to support the Uniting Church ethos Other duties, as required by Principal or Head of Activities, commensurate with the position

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience Highly respected and credentialed sports professional Demonstrated success as a high performance coach Previous experience as a sports administrator Change management experience First Aid Qualification Responding to Abuse and Neglect certification Experience coaching or managing coaching programs targeted at primary and secondary age students is

desirable

Key Selection Criteria: Personal Qualities Role model of lifelong engagement in sport and/or physical activity Dynamic and passionate Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills

Safety and WellbeingAll staff must:

Take reasonable care of, and cooperate with actions taken to protect, the health and safety of both themselves and others

Report all accidents, incidents and hazards to their supervisors as soon as is practicable Read and abide by all WHS policies.
