REPORT ON ORIENTATION PROGRAMME (2019-20) The Academic Year (2019-20) began with a weeklong Orientation Programme for the fresher’s from 2 nd to 9 th August 2018 in which eminent scholars and resource persons from various streams addressed and enlightened our students. Day - 1: Orientation Programme for the freshers’ 2019-20 was formally inaugurated on 02.08.19 by Prof (Dr) P. Ishwara Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi. The orientation programme was presided over by Hon’ble Justice A.V. Chandrashekar, Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka, Bengaluru. Prof K.S. Suresh, Chief Executive, Dr S. Nataraju, staff, parents and first year students were present. Nearly 180 students, 300 parents attended the Orientation Inaugural Programme. The inauguration of the Orientation Programme began with an invocation by Miss Ashwini Bhat. Dr S. Nataraju delivered the welcome address. The chief guests along with dignitaries formally inaugurated the programme by watering the plant.

REPORT ON ORIENTATION PROGRAMME (2019-20)

The Academic Year (2019-20) began with a weeklong Orientation Programme for the fresher’s from 2nd to 9th August 2018 in which eminent scholars and resource persons from various streams addressed and enlightened our students.

Day - 1: Orientation Programme for the freshers’ 2019-20 was formally inaugurated on 02.08.19 by Prof (Dr) P. Ishwara Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi. Dr P. Ishwara Bhat set the tone for the rest of the programme with his thought provoking inaugural address. At first he congratulated the new batch who got admission in the JSS law college and assured them that the institution would help them traverse the right path in life as well as career. He highlighted the need for bilingual education and encouraged the students to develop proficiency in vernacular languages and translation skills. He further, shared the thoughts of the great revolutionary, Alma Venkata Rao and advised students to study law in the social context and multi-cultural reality. He concluded the address insisting the students to learn extensively and with continued effort.

Hon’ble Justice A.V. Chandrashekar in his presidential address congratulated the students and drew attention to the paradigm shift in legal education and emphasised the important role played by judiciary to the society. He opined that law is nothing but codified common sense and reminded students of their fundamental duty under Article 51A(j) – to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity. In his concluding remarks asked the students to imbibe the rich culture of Mysuru and grow everyday in terms of intellect, integrity and honesty. The formal inaugural of orientation programme drew to an end with the vote of thanks rendered by Prof K.S. Suresh.

The first day of the Orientation Programme further continued with Ice breaking session for Students and Parents separately this was engaged by Dr N. Vani Shree and team and Prof P. Shivananda Bharathi and team respectively in the Moot Court hall and Silver Jubilee Hall. Later lunch was arranged for parents, students and staff.

Day - 02: The second day (03.08.19) of the orientation programme began with first session

which was engaged by Dr S. Nataraju who spoke on the topic “Introduction to Legal System”. He further briefed about the rules and regulations of the college by introducing ‘Student Guide’.

Dr G. Manjunath, Executive Director, Spandana International Organisation spoke on the topic, “The Importance of Language and Methods & Techniques of Communication”; he also highlighted the phases of communication.

The last session was Alumni Interaction by Mr Prithvi Kiran Shetty, Mr Milash Arrol and Miss Supreetha shared their experiences with the freshers.

Day - 03: The third day (05.08.19) of the Orientation Programme commenced with address by

a spiritual resource person, Swami Shantivrathanandaji, Chairman, RIMSE who spoke on the topic “Your are the creator of your Destiny” he inspired the students by narrating live life experiences of great achievers like Hima Das, Ashwini Angadi and so on who had started their life with nothing.

The second session was engaged by Sri Shanthan, Company Secretary, Excel Academy who spoke on “Company Secretary as a Career”. Later in the afternoon Sri Prajwal and other members of Excel Academy conducted one to one interaction with students.

Day - 04:

In the fourth day (06.08.19) of the Orientation Programme’s first session and second session was engaged by Dr N. N. Prahallada, Former Faculty, Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, who addressed the students on the topic “How to develop Self-Esteem”.

During the third session Prof M.P.Nagendra Murthy gave an overview of the activities conducted by MYCAB, NSS and Rotaract. He also gave implications on Anti-Ragging policy of the college. Dr N. Vani Shree further continued the session spoke on Green Guides activities, following which Smt M. C. Usha Rani spoke on hostel rules and regulations – Do’s and Dont’s. Smt Sheela Ganesh briefed on the Student Academic Council activities, Smt N. Sunitha spoke on Internship Programme and Smt Asmathunnisa detailed on Cultural Club activities.

In the afternoon session Hon’ble Justice Sri Vontigodi, Principal District Judge and Hon’ble Justice Sri B.P. Devamane, Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mysuru highlighted on the Role of Legal Services Authority.

Day - 05: The fifth day (07.08.19) of the Orientation Programme’s first session was on Traffic Awareness Programme addressed by Sri R. Jagadeesh, K.R. Traffic Police Inspector who detailed on the pros and cons of overruling the traffic rules. Sri Shivakumar, Sub-Inspector and Sri Subramaniam, Chief Traffic Warden, Mysuru were also present during the session.

The second technical session was addressed by Smt Smita Tom, Entrepreneur who addressed the students on Entrepreneurship and inspired the students to take up Entrepreneurship by narrating her own story.

The third session was handled by Dr N. Vani Shree who introduced and briefed on NCC activities. Further in the same session Smt P. Ashwini briefed on the Moot Club activities in the college. Prof S. Nagendra spoke about Legal Review Club and its activities.During the afternoon session Mr Shivakumar Jayabalan, Alumni addressed the students on the avenues available to the law students in the area of Legal Technology and Consulting Services. Later Sri Chidanand, Librarian introduced the students to the regulations of library. Further Mr Arjun Unnikrishnan, final year student and co-ordinator of Debate Club highlighted the activities of debate club.

Day - 06:

The sixth day (08.08.19) of the orientation programme commenced with a session on Yoga, which was co-ordinated by Sri Sathyanarayana, Sri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi (SPYSS). Further Sri Gopala Krishna spoke on the ‘Scientific Postures in Yoga’ along with live demonstration by Sri Narayana and Smt Chaithra, SPYSS.

Dr Suresha, Head of the Department of Diabetology, JSS Medical College engaged the second technical session and spoke on the topic “Health and Wellness”, highlighting the aspects of healthy lifestyle.

Later Sri T.P. Dharmendra briefed the students on Procedural laws. The afternoon session was engaged by Prof M.M. Prabhuswamy, Co-ordinator – Cultural activities, briefing various cultural activities in the college. During the same session Prof P. Shivananda Bharathi, Controller of Examination spoke on the examination process and CIA.

Day - 07:On the seventh day (09.08.19) of the orientation programme Sri A.T. Jagadish, Faculty, spoke on the activities of Research ORGAN, Online Journal, Yi-YUVA, Electoral Literacy Club and Placement Cell. Later, tests on English Proficiency, Computer Literacy and Student Guide were conducted to the Fresher's. Finally the week long programme was concluded by obtaining feedback from the students on the orientation programme.
