STOOL COLLECTION INFORMATION

Collection Containers for Routine Stool Testing

· O & P (Ova & Parasite) – Pink & Gray

· Stool for Culture – Green

· CDIFF , WBC (STPUS), ROTOVIRUS – Sterile container

Filling Instructions for Culture Container

· Open container and add stool specimen using applicator attached to cap

· Fill to black arrow on container

IMPORTANT:

Do not overfill or underfill

· After stool is added, place cap on container and gently rotate container to mix stool with red media

· Label containers with the following information (see example below)

· Last name, First name

· Date of Birth (DOB)

· Date and time of collection, indicating am/pm

· Refrigerate sample after collection and while transporting to laboratory

Filling Instructions for O & P (Ova & Parasite) Containers

Filling Instructions for CDIFF and/or WBC (STPUS), ROTOVIRUS Container

· Open containers and add stool specimen to each container using applicators attached to caps

· Fill to black arrow on containers

IMPORTANT:

Do not overfill or underfill

· After stool is added, place cap on container and gently rotate container to mix stool with clear fixative

· Label containers with the following information (see example below)

· Last name, First name

· Date of Birth (DOB)

· Date and time of collection, indicating am/pm

· Keep sample at room temperature after collection and while transporting to laboratory

· Open sterile container and add stool specimen (minimum volume is 15 ML )

· After stool is added, place cap on container and tighten

· Refrigerate sample after collection and while transporting to laboratory

· Label containers with the following information (see example below)

· Last name, First name

· Date of Birth (DOB)

· Date and time of collection, indicating am/pm

· Transport to laboratory within 4 hours of collection

Collection Instructions for Occult Blood Stool Sample

· Use 3 Sure-VUE Fecal Occult Blood Test cards

· Collect 3 stool samples 24-48 hours apart

· Open the tab on front of card and read instructions for collecting and applying sample using the supplied wood applicator stick

· Close cover on test card and store away from heat and light

· Label the front of the test card with the following information (see example below)

· Last name, First name

· Date of Birth (DOB)

· Date and time of collection, indicating am/pm

· After all 3 samples have been collected, return test cards to the laboratory

Labeling Specimens

· Label specimens with the following information

· Last name, First name

· Date of Birth (DOB)

· Date and time of collection, indicating am/pm
