Your job will be the following:
● Choose ONE topic from EACH category in the Arithmetic test.
● Choose ONE topic from EACH category in the Algebra test.
● Choose ONE topic from FOUR of the SIX College Level Math Topics.
This gives you a total of 10 topics.
For EACH OF THESE 10 topics:
● Google “College Placement Test Questions” and find an example of each of the questions you chose. You must use AT LEAST THREE different College Placement Tests. Document where you found the questions.
● You must solve each problem, including a clear explanation of your solution.
● For each of these ten questions, make a list of skills needed to solve the problem.
● For each of the ten questions, find a Common Core question from grades K – 5 that would address one of the skills you mentioned to answer the question. You can start by visiting www.engageny.org but if you search the internet, people have been posting plenty of questions! When you find the question, identify the grade level, solve it and write a clear explanation as to how you solved it.
● Write a rational for why you think the Common Core question you chose will help answer your college placement question.
***Note on Plagiarism: Each student is to submit their own work. There are a fair number of combinations to assure that students should not all have the same topics chosen. There are endless examples for the college placement test questions on the web and in textbooks. There are also a fair number of Common Core questions available. Therefore any submissions that appear to not have been done independently will result in a grade of zero.
Your grade will be based on:
● Following the rules of the project: 10 topics, one from each Arithmetic category, one from
each Algebra category, one from four out of six College Level category, use at least three different College Placement Test sources, choosing a Common Core question from grades K – 5, including the source of each college placement test question and each common core question.
● Choosing a variety of problems from different levels. Choose the most interesting
question that you can.
● Choosing a non-trivial skill for the Common Core question. Choose a skill beyond simple
arithmetic when available.

● Correctness and completeness of your solutions.
● Presentation of your work. Organize all items you need to include in a clear way. You
should type what you can and clearly write your solutions to the math problems. Each topic should be on a separate page. Your project should be stapled before you bring it to class.
● Timely submission of your project.
● Inclusion of both checklists, completed and stapled to the front of the project.
● Inclusion of blank rubric for me to grade your project. Staple to the back of your project.
LATE PROJECTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE THURSDAY, MAY 7th.
Use the attached checklists to make sure you have included everything.
Staple the checklists to the top of your submission.

Common Core Problem: https://www.testprepreview.com/math-grade-6.htm
Which of the following is a solution to the inequality 9 + 2x > 5x?
A. 2B. 3C. 4D. 8
Grade Level: 6th grade
Solution: A: A solution to an equation or inequality is a value of the variable(s) that makes the equation or inequality true. To determine which choice is a solution to the inequality 9 + 2x > 5x, substitute each one for x in the inequality and simplify the result to see if the inequality is true. Start with x = 2.
9 + 2x > 5x9 + 2(2) > 5(2)9 + 4 > 1013 > 10
Since 13 > 10 is true, the correct answer is x = 2.Alternatively, subtract 2x from both sides of the inequality to get 9 > 5x - 2x, which is equivalent to 9 > 3x. Divide both sides by 3 to get 3 > x, or x < 3. The only x to choose less than 3 is 2, so A is correct.

Rationale: A student needs to exhibit how to identify the solution to a linear equality. By solving the inequality algebraically, as described in the above solution, the student can demonstrate an understanding that the solution must contain only numbers less than 3, and would be able to choose the correct answer from the ones given in the multiple choice.
