Hello Everyone and welcome to Term 5. I hope you all had a lovely Eater and managed to do some baking.
I thought it would be good to make a savoury recipe this week after all the sweet treats we have been enjoying.
Cheese scones are easy to make and could be an alternative to sandwiches for lunch.
Scones have been with us since the 1500 s. They originated in Scotland where they were known as quick bread.
Cheese Scone Recipe,
Pre heat the oven to 200c ,gas mark 7.
Ingredients:
200 g Self raising flour.
Pinch of salt.
50 g of butter or margarine.
50 g cheddar cheese grated.
120 ml Milk
Equipment:
Mixing bowl.
Sieve.
Rolling pin.
Wooden Spoon.
Cutter.
Baking tray.
Start by washing your hands.
Now weigh out all your ingredients ready.
Sieve the flour and pinch of salt into the mixing bowl.
Now add the butter.
Using your fingertips rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir in the grated cheese.
Start to add your milk a little at a time (you may not need it all) and stir until the mixture forms a dough.
Place your dough on a floured surface and lightly knead.
Now roll out your dough to about 2 cm thick. Use your cutter to stamp out scones.
Place on a greased baking tray.
You can Brush your scones with milk to give them a nice finish.
Ask an adult to put your scones into the oven.
They should take 12-15 minutes to cook.
Get an adult to remove from the oven and place on a rack to cool.
You can enjoy them as they are or with butter, I like marmite on mine.
Please send us your photos we would love to see them.
