In this series we get to know five of Australia's most talented and ambitious Indigenous people as we recognise and celebrate them. The Wenitongs: they're proud, and if necessary, they can be loud - sending out their message far and wide. Mark Wenitong and his children, Joel and Naomi, are determined to make the world a better place whether it's through medicine or the healing power of music. The Wenitongs are an inspirational family who draw their strength from generations of dedicated elders whose legacy lives on in the work of Dr Mark Wenitong - one of Australia's first crop of Indigenous GPs, and two of his musically-gifted children, Joel and Naomi, who form two-thirds of the hip-hop group - The Last Kinection. Overcoming personal hardships, including a life-threatening car accident, is the fuel that fires this talented and grounded trio to strive for successes that leave a positive mark on society at large. Hailing from the Kabi Kabi nation of South East Queensland, as they are making a name for themselves around the country they always remember who they are and where they come from.

When Jonathan Belsey's marriage ended, he left the family home and bought a plot of land just down the road. He's on a mission to build a house that will be exciting to look at, cheap to run, and ecologically sound. Jonathan is a scientist and this project is the great experiment he's dreamt of.

By the time building begins, he has met his new partner, Lindsey, who he manages to convince to buy into his dream. The house will now be their first home together, with room for their combined family of four daughters.

The design and building is high risk. The mix of untested technology and uncompromising use of materials means a constant battle between comfort and ideology. Built from barefaced concrete blocks that they hope will act as giant storage heaters, and with concrete floors, the look is Prisoner with a hint of Thunderbirds sci-fi.

The house will be carbon neutral, heated only by the sun, with power supplied by a massive 13 metre tall wind turbine... if it works, because that's a prototype, too. With so much dependent on the efficiency of the house, and comfort second in line, the design has to work.

Jonathan and Lindsey's build is a battle. Technologies that haven't been fully tested, a design that's uncompromising and a budget that runs out far too quickly. But with every penny sunk into it, this house has to work.

A 23-year-old woman is drowned in a bath, wrapped in net curtains and made to look like a bride. A chilling lipstick message is written on the mirror. She wears a ring and a bouquet of cheap flowers is placed on the toilet seat - but murder victim Dianne Price had no plans to marry.

This terrible crime triggers a spate of ghoulish wedding-themed murders in Great Worthy.

The case takes Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and Jones (Jason Hughes) to a donkey sanctuary, a pub run by an ex-copper and former brothel madam, and a heritage steam railway. Could history be repeating itself?

At a small school in the Victorian Mallee, indefatigable 91-year-old choral conductor Jessie Carmichael works with a group of novice singers to revisit a legendary moment in local history.

Almost 60 years ago, Carmichael took a group of children from the Lake Boga Primary School who "couldn't tell a crotchet from an aniseed ball" on to win national acclaim at the Commonwealth Jubilee Choral Festival. Local sceptics were amazed when the choir were flown specially to Melbourne to perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in an event broadcast nationally by the ABC. As the only country choir selected to take part in the Jubilee event, Lake Boga Primary School became the pride of the district and an inspiration to children and rural communities across Australia.

Looking back on this momentous event, the once young choristers now in their 60s and 70s recall a revelatory experience. In the words of one chorister, "It gave us the confidence to know that we could be as good as anyone, that nothing was beyond us…".

Carmichael remains passionate about the value of music in education and the potential of singing to stimulate and inspire young minds. Approaching her new charges at Lake Boga, she demands extreme effort and attention to detail, ensuring that every word of a song is properly understood and given due meaning.

Seriously Singing is about the surprising resonance of history and the capacity of young singers to exceed all expectations, including their own.

World-renowned psychic John Edward has made a living communicating with dead people. Having visited psychics in the past as she tried to make sense of her parents’ deaths, Judith has an honest chat with John about sceptics, what people are looking for when they go to his shows, and what happens when we die?

Deciding that, as she believes in nothing spiritual, she might as well try anything, Judith follows in her late mother's footsteps and takes the plunge into a rebirthing session, before heading to the home of spiritual seekers - Byron Bay. Among the crystals, cheesecloth and incense, Judith is spoilt for choice when it comes to New Age spiritual practices. She settles back in the rainforest for a spot of shamanic journeying, slips into and out of something more comfortable for a naked tantric massage, submits herself to a gong-filled yurt for vibrational cleansing, and heads to a place called the Lotus Temple for a group healing session from practitioners from The Divine University, who offer the chance to channel higher beings.

But Judith finds her spiritual waters are muddied when she chats to 'mind reading' performer and sceptic Philip Escoffey, who uses the powers of suggestion and illusion to try and prove to people that all 'spirituality', from religion to psychics, is nothing more than showbiz. So is he right, or are John Edward and the Byron seekers closer to the truth? Or is there something in between?

An idealistic Welsh handyman with no building qualifications wants to move his young family into a disused Victorian church in south west Wales. Gareth Williams wants to convert it into a unique home, but he has limited money.

The twist is that the church sits in a graveyard and is surrounded by hundreds of dead bodies and that means lots of red tape. Archaeologists are called in to determine if any remains lie under the church's floor and if so, his restoration work will be a lot more complicated - and more expensive.

Ebay comes to the rescue in sourcing cheaper materials, but the unexpected cost and delays in the renovation take a toll on the family.

Renovation man, architect George Clarke lends a hand and support to Williams, but some of his redesign suggestions meet with resistance from Gareth's strong-minded wife.

Tatum's (Indiana Evans) thrilled to be working with Janet (Marta Dusseldorp) on a case of sexual assault on a minor, but is disappointed when Richard (Hamish Michael) is put on the case as well.

A handsome former PE teacher Matt March who had a three-year affair with a student, claims the fifteen year old made the whole thing up. But when Tatum learns the girl loves March and doesn't feel exploited, she begins to harbour doubts about the case, much to Richard's disbelief.

Ben (Todd Lasance) is assisting solicitor to a drunken, unravelling Tony Gillies (Peter Kowitz) on a high-profile murder case. Tracey (Jeanette Cronin) warns him that Tony is liable to fail spectacularly, but Ben's only seeing what this high profile case will do for his career. As predicted, Tony stumbles in court and flees, leaving Ben in the lurch, and Ben loses his temper calling Tony a disgrace. But he's forced to come to Tony's rescue when David (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) tells him the reason behind Tony's torment.

Richard is still homeless, and unable to oust his disabled tenant. After a terrible night in a hostel, he visits the house to discover that his tenant is able-bodied and obnoxious. But forcing the tenant out has serious consequences.

Andy (Chris Morris) confronts Lina (Andrea Demetriades) about bringing their relationship out in the open, and discovers that she is worried he is not a Muslim, even though she is not a practising Muslim herself.

Silent Witness: First Casualty: Part 1Friday,12 August 2011

Forensic pathologists Professor Leo Dalton (William Gaminara), Dr Harry Cunningham (Tom Ward) and Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) return for another series of Silent Witness.

Every body tells a story: who they were, how they lived, and most importantly, how they died. Their history is there to be discovered and the body is the key to unlocking the story.

The body of a young woman is pulled from a river and Nikki is called to perform the post-mortem. It looks like the woman was dead before she hit the water - there's evidence of a struggle and inspection of her skull reveals a brain haemorrhage. The woman has given birth and Nikki is anxious to discover her identity in case her child is abandoned somewhere.

Meanwhile, at a nearby army base, a training exercise is halted abruptly when Lieutenant Stephen Lockford starts experiencing a flashback to Afghanistan and starts shooting one of his fellow soldiers.

Lockford's body is later discovered in his Landrover at the barracks. He's been shot in the mouth and it looks like suicide. Lockford's wife, Claire, tells the police that her husband had been behaving strangely since he returned from Afghanistan where he witnessed one of his regiment being shot dead. Harry suspects Lockford was suffering from PTSD. Back at the river, police have retrieved several mobile phones, and as Nikki gathers blood samples from the scene, one of the phones starts ringing.

Caught out while posing as lawyers, the team is placed in an awkward position when they are asked to help save community centre The Pulse, which is under threat of demolition. The centre's manager Lennie (Roger Griffiths) has been betrayed by ruthless local MP Rhona Christie (Kate Fleetwood), who negotiated the building's sale in a dirty development deal. The grifters are quick to spot the potential for a mark in the midst of the questionable goings on.

Ash (Robert Glenister) delves into Christie's background but can't uncover how she is profiting from the corrupt deals he is sure she's conducting. Sean (Matt Di Angelo) is sent into the murky world of politics to gather information, getting a position as Christie's researcher, while Albert (Robert Vaughn) borrows the identity of billionaire property developer JJ Kayne.

The plan is to entice Christie to de-list a historical building Kayne owns to see how her corruption works. Christie is keen to do business, and the team cleverly extracts money from her. But when she uses a third party to cover her tracks, Mickey (Adrian Lester) realises he needs another facet to the con if they are to get her to incriminate herself and they can save The Pulse.

Everything is going to plan, but Sean is furious when he witnesses Mickey and Emma (Kelly Adams) kissing. Can the team restore harmony and prevent the demolition crew moving in, and will Albert's mysterious trip to the countryside help?

In fact Simon gets bail after Lyle finds a bag stashed full of money which Simon has left in the house.

The local American army base figures prominently as the pregnant Camilla gets Peter to put pressure on serviceman Brad Johnson to admit liability for her unborn baby, with love ultimately finding a way.

Another, less expected, romance appears to blossom when Sidney, in protest at a new jet runway being built near his house, stages a one-man sit-in and Gloria joins him to bring him tea and refreshments.

Marchlands is the gripping story that follows three separate families who live in the same house called Marchlands at three different time periods - 1968, 1987 and 2010.

The three strands interconnect - the families are linked by the ghost of a little girl, Alice, who drowned in a tragic accident in the local lake 'Blackwater Tarn'. The episodes are multi-stranded and a number of characters appear in more than one time frame.

1968: Ruth and Paul reconcile, but in the village there are rumours spreading about her time in Leeds.

This divides the couple once more, thanks to meddling from Paul’s mum - Evelyn.

1987: Helen and Eddie's son, Scott, feels like no one cares about him because everyone's so distracted by Amy and her sightings. He's not feeling very well and keeps having visions too, but doesn't feel like he can confide in anyone. Elsewhere, we learn more about the history between Mark and Olive.

2010: Nisha also hears rumours about the history between Mark and Olive, and goes to confront her.

Deciding the winner of these three inventions are: designer Alison Page, engineer James Bradfield Moody, and restaurant reviewer Matthew Evans. Inventions featured on the program:

OYSTER SHUCKER HOLDER - by inventor Ian Scott from SAClosed oysters are fresher, cheaper, and keep longer. Unfortunately, opening them is no simple task. Two days into a sailing cruise last year, retired engineer Ian Scott saw a friend cut his finger so badly while opening an oyster that they considered returning to the mainland for treatment. Retired or not, the lifelong engineer became determined to find a solution. The Oyster Shucker Holder allows people to open oysters safely and easily. The stainless steel hand guard protects the user from cutting themselves on the knife or oyster shell. A dozen oysters can be opened in less than 5 minutes when using the invention. The device is made of non-absorbing materials to protect users from notorious oyster bacteria.

EASYJUST - by inventor Trevor Murray from QLDTrevor Murray had gone through nine lives’ worth of careers before realising his true calling as an inventor. Having tried boat building, wood turning, picture framing, printing, and finally design, he's picked up some skills along the way. One day as Trevor was sitting at a cafe table in Caloundra, he became increasingly frustrated by the never ending irritant of the wobbly cafe table. Suddenly a design project started forming in his mind that would set him on the path to becoming an inventor.

Easyjust is a cafe table that can be easily adjusted by the cafe patrons themselves, from the comfort of their own seat. It looks like a standard cafe table, but inside the central column there is a rod that can be controlled by a small winder in the centre of the table top. The controls allow you to raise or lower the central rod, which in turn controls a pivot in one of the table legs, so you can adjust one leg until it stabilises the base.

VACUUM BIN – by inventor Thomas Pyrzakowski from SAThere's nothing like treating yourself to a great coffee in your favourite cafe. But the carefully crafted hipster ambience can so easily be ruined by the clanging noise of baristas banging their tools against the knockout bin every time they make a cup of coffee. Twenty-two-year-old Thomas Pyrzakowski decided to tackle this problem as his final year industrial design project.

The Vacuum Bin takes the noise out of the knockout bin in which baristas discard used coffee. The Vacuum Bin uses a small foot pump to pull the air away from the top unit, applying suction and removing all the used coffee beans in one large clump, eliminating noise and minimising the stress on baristas’ wrists.
