Shepard Symposium. We invite you to participate in the 16th Annual Shepard Symposium on Social Justice, March 28-31, 2012. This year’s focus is Identities: Dismantling the Boxes. We invite proposal submissions that deconstruct and interrupt the ways in which proscriptive identities are forced upon members of marginalized groups by society. Specifically we hope that proposals will critically examine the ways in which society forces people to identify with certain membership groups (as evidenced by boxes on census forms) that are socially constructed and that often serve to limit and constrain creative and emancipatory expressions of one's self. Proposals that cut across academic disciplines and that work at the intersections of ethnicity/race, affectional orientation, disability, gender, religion and class are especially welcome. Deadline for submission: Monday, January 9, 2012 Please Note: All submissions are evaluated by a -blind, peer-review process. We do not offer honorariums or stipends for travel. Registration and Lunch on Thursday are free. You will be notified on the status of your proposal January 31, 2012 For more information contact Angela M. Jaime [email protected]. Click here for more.

The goal of the training is to promote help-seeking behaviors and reduce the stigma of seeking care for mental and behavioral health problems. Each two hour training session will define warning signs and risks of suicide, define protective factors against suicide, and provide resources and skills to make a referral to a professional. The trainings are open to all interested students, staff, faculty and community members. Suicide prevention is a priority for students, faculty and staff at the University of Wyoming. The State of Wyoming is ranked number five for suicide deaths per capita. We know that most people who are severely depressed or suicidal will not automatically seek out a professional counselor. The Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (MURAP) is a paid summer internship designed to foster the entrance of talented students from diverse backgrounds within the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts into graduate school and faculty positions in U.S. colleges and universities.
