14.0 Visit to L’ESAT d’AnnecyThe Establishment and Service Support through Work (ESAT) is a sheltered work programme based in Annecy. ESAT offers protected professional activities, accompanied by medical and social support (through housing and care programmes) for those unable to work in traditional work. Work is adapted according to levels of ability. Work is centred on assemblage of electrical goods and packaging. Contracts are secured by ESAT with local and regional businesses.Workers must be at least 20 years old and must have a working capacity of less than a third or have the need for medical, educational or social support. To gain a place the applicant needs to have a referral notification from the Commission for Rights and Autonomy of Disabled Persons (CDAPH). Workers do not have an employment contract but sign a support and assistance through work contract which guarantees continuous ‘protected’ employment. Employment can be terminated, however, through gross misconduct or health and safety issues.Workers are paid according to level of work undertaken – this amounts to 55% to 110% of the hourly minimum wage. This is paid by ESAT. After a month workers are entitled to leave equal to 2.5 days per month.
17.00 Met with Jaques Sally, Director of ADIMC74 – An organisation supporting the education and care of students aged 3 to 20 years who have cerebral palsy but also learners on the autistic spectrum. The key aim of the organisation is social re
integration though independent living and or work. The association has many premises across Annecy. There are three workshops making personalised presents and gifts and a Cattery and Kennels located 30 minutes outside Annecy in there are education units, work based training and residential houses and also offers some therapeutic services. Discussion over the synergy between specific operations of both organisations. Outline of the services and opportunities National Star offer for international students and staff development, particularly training teachers to work with learners who have other disabilities aside from cerebral palsy. There is already a robust training for teachers working in the association with learners who have CP.
18.00 Met with Christoph Chenu (Municipal Councillor) – Discussion about the services and international offer from National Star College – Student placements, partnership exchange programmes and a range of professional development training including specialist teacher training.
Thursday 16th April
09.00 Visit to l’institut Guillaume Belluard, a residential education association as part of ADIMC74 with associated care and pastoral support for learners with a range of physical and behavioural disabilities, many with complex and multiple disabilities. The students are funded by social service and health. Residential learners are funded at €420per day and day learners are funded at €300 per day. There are therapy, care and nursing teams working with learners throughout the day and evenings. Students undertake ‘activities’ during the day but not specifically taught classes by teachers. Older 18 -19 yr. old learners are trained in work skills workshops with a view to applying for work positions at ESAT (see above).
12.30 Working lunch with Directors of ADIC74 to discuss partnership proposals for linked work. Outline of specialist teaching programmes and short programme work transition programmes for learners with physical disabilities.
14.00 Visited two ADIMC74 work spaces for adults with disabilities. Meythet and Hery sur Alby. I also saw a long term residential facility, Siege Associatif, for 8 people with disabilities. Used predominantly by those working with ADIMC74 enterprises locally. At Meythet there is a long term residential centre for 55 young people and adults with 3 temporary places. There are well appointed rooms and activity spaces, a hydrotherapy pool and specialist support services. At Hery sur Alby, about 20 minutes’ drive outside Annecy, there is a residential centre for 35 adults. This is a new build completed in October 2013. It also has a Cattery and Kennels located on the site where residents also work.

Prospective partnership activities between National Star and ADIMC74
Work skills training
There are good opportunities for young people aged 16 - 19 to undertake reciprocal transition to work. Programmes. This would involve a one week work programme in each organisation based around learning defined work skills and developing use of English and French. Funding from the British Council Lefevre programme would give each organisation up to £5000 each to fund a programme. This will be appropriate for learners at l’institut Guillaume Belluard. Application deadline is 19th May in 2015 and will be a similar deadline each year.
At National Star our International Work skills programme gives participants from France the opportunity to spend 5 weeks in the UK living with a host family, working with job coaches at National Star and working in a UK Company. There is also opportunities to improve English language skills during the placement. We currently successfully run the programme for students from Germany. The cost for each student is €4485. (Brochure attached). In Germany, for example, funds

for students placements are secured through application to the education ministry (LVR) and additional funds are fundraised by the partner school.
Curriculum working partnerships
There is an opportunity to develop a curriculum partnership through an Erasmus+ Key Action 1 programme. We are currently seeking a partner to create a student exchange programme to develop sports leadership skills with young people with disabilities. Oliver Gachet, manager at l’institut Guillaume Belluard is interested in developing an exchange programme and further correspondence will develop this idea further.
Staff Development
There are a number of staff development opportunities between National Star and ADIMC74 concerning staff development. Erasmus+ Key Action 2 funding will give opportunities for staff between the two institutions to develop share best practice through innovation and exchange. There are clear similarities between organisations and a reciprocal visit to develop particular staff development programmes will be sought relevant managers at ADIMC74. Opportunities for teachers, support staff, care workers and therapy professionals to work together on short exchange visits are possible.
National Star is currently delivering a specialist teaching programme to up skill teachers who are working with a range of learners who particular disabilities. This programme is design to give teachers the specialist teaching skills in order that they can best meet the learning needs of their learners. We are delivering the programme in the UK and training trainers to deliver the programme across Europe. (see attached brochure).
Through the E-Twinning partnership between Cheltenham and Annecy there is an opportunity each year for two professionals under the age of 35 to undertake a two week placement within an organisation in Annecy as part of the E Twinning programme. The placement is fully funded by the E Twinning programme. ADIMC would be a perfect work place for teachers from National Star to work. Placements usually take place in July and August.
