GENERAL RULESPlease Read Carefully

1. This is to be an educational experience. LET THE KIDS HAVE FUN. Coaches and or conveners cannot change any of the rules with the exception of the schedule.

2. Starting times: All games commence at 9:00 a.m. Please be on time.

3. Lunches must be eaten in the designated area and not in the change rooms. Try to ensure that all garbage is placed in the bins provided.

4. Change rooms should be supervised at all times by the teacher in charge.

5. Bring your own well-marked practice balls.

6. Team conduct and supervision is the responsibility of the coach.

7. For safety reasons: No jewelry, hats, or track pants are permitted on the court during the game.

8. Players should wear appropriate clothing: running shoes, school T-shirt, and shorts. No jean cut offs or leotards.

9. Players are reminded to maintain a fair play attitude at all times.

10. A player may serve 5 consecutive serves, after which the next player on the same team serves. Overhand serves are permitted. Spiking is permitted. However, a serve may not be blocked or spiked from the front court.

11. Where there is an inadequate serving box, a 9 meter serving line should be taped on the full width of the court.

12. SERVING:A. Serve from anywhere behind the 9 m out line (the depth of the

serving zone in most schools is about 2 m from the wall)

B. There is no blocking or spiking of the serve when a player is in front of the attack line.

C. Double contact with any first ball over the net, including serves, is allowed (you do not have to bump the ball). Holds or lifts are still not allowed.

D. A server cannot be substituted if he /she has already begun serving EXCEPT DUE TO INJURY.

GENERAL RULES CONTINUED

13. The ball may not make contact below the waist.

14. Contact with the net is a fault.

15. A block does not count as a hit.

16. A player may step on the center line; however, a whole foot over the line is a fault.

17. Two 30 second time-outs per team per game.

18. A team is allowed unlimited substitutions per game. A player starting in a game may be replaced by any substitute and may subsequently re-enter the same game, but only in his/her original position in relation to the other teammates. A team may also substitute the player in position 6 after each rotation – as long as this substitution is done consistently and fairly.

19. All games are to 25 points. Teams must win by two points to a maximum of 27.

20. ATTACK LINE RULE – A back-row player may complete an attack hit at any height as long as the takeoff is from behind the attack line. - if during his/her take-off, the player's foot either touches or has crossed the attack line and contact with the ball is above the net, then a fault has occurred - if during his/her take-off, the player's foot does not touch or cross the attack line and contact with the ball is above the net and the player lands in the front court, a fault has not occurred. - You may need to tape an attack line on the court (location will vary depending on your court length). The front zone is 1/3 of the court and the back zone is 2/3 of the court.(Example: if one half of the court is 6m long - then the attack line will be marked at 2m from the center line)

points to a maximum of 27.

2. Each win counts as one point.

3. Tie Breaker: a) games played between the tied teams b) ratio of points for and against between tied teams c) ratio of points for and against through pool play

***See Tie Breaking Procedure Page***

4. Net height of Junior Volleyball: Boys – 2.05 m Girls – 2.00 m

5. If a rescheduling is not possible due to time constraints:Teams that arrive 15 min after the start of their first game will forfeit the first set 25-0. If the team arrives 30 minutes late they will then forfeit the second set 25-0.

6. Awards: Champion – Pennant and 15 Crests

FORMAT (1999)1. Rally scoring will be in effect. A point is scored by the team that wins

each rally, regardless of which team served. A set (game) is won by the team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of two points. There is a cap in each set of 27 points so a team can win a game by the final score of 27-26. Deciding games in best 2 out of 3 matches are played to 15 with a cap of 17 points.

2. There will be unlimited substitution allowed for this year. This means however, that if you put a substitute in for an original player, the original player is the only person that can replace their substitute (this may occur an unlimited amount of times throughout the set).

3. A yellow card will result in a warning. A red card is a loss of rally and a point for the opponent. A red and yellow card jointly issued means disqualification for remainder of the match.

4. Coaches must stay on the bench during play. At a time out they may stand to give instructions to their team but their team must remain on the volleyball court.

5. The Canadian Volleyball Association has adopted a defensive specialist called a “Libero” player. The TCSAA will not be using the “Libero” player.

6. Servers will have the opportunity to continue with tossing a ball and allowing the ball to drop if they feel that it was not a proper toss. They will be allowed 8 seconds to serve the ball and may only repeat the toss one time. They still must not catch the ball if they do not feel that the toss was appropriate to hit, they must let the toss drop and then repeat their service attempt. No third attempt at serve will be allowed.

Before the tournaments begin, please gather for a coaches meeting then have a student read the TCSAA Athlete’s Pledge included in this package.

TCSAA Athlete’s Pledge

I am the athlete who, through hours of hard work, practice, perseverance and preparation, am here, only by the grace of God, to compete.

With the help of my coaches, the support of my family and friends, I honour the gifts given to me by God. The gift of a strong and healthy body, sound mind and determined heart, the gift of a compassionate spirit and the gift of friendship.

I promise to put forth my best effort within the spirit of the rules. When I fall, I will get up; when I fail, I will try again; when I succeed I will be humble and kind. I will respect my opponent because I know what they have been through.

I ask of the coaches, parents, spectators and fans to respect my teammates and me. Please understand that harsh words and deeds are a negative force. I ask you to represent your school, family and community with dignity. I ask you to encourage us with positive, kind words and remember….we are children of God.
