Isabeau Miller at Cotuit Center for the Arts, November 28 and 29

Nashville singer/songwriter Isabeau Miller will perform two concerts at Cotuit Center for the Arts, the first on Friday, November 28, at 7:30 PM, in the Art Barn, and the second on Saturday, November 29, at 8:30 PM.

Miller, a Cape Cod native, will provide an insider’s look at the music industry and life in Nashville, Tennessee, where she now lives.

Friday’s performance, “Stories and Songs in the Art Barn with Isabeau Miller,” offers an intimate view of the inspiration and perspiration that goes into a song, true stories of the entertainment industry, and what it takes to pursue one’s passion.

On Saturday, touring musician Shaun Balin will join Miller for “Living in a Love Song: Isabeau Miller in Concert.” The two will bring Nashville to Cape Cod, as they perform Miller’s songs, which have been described by Nashville music pros as “soulful exposés of heartbreaks, triumphs, and a ruthless dedication to creating music that inspires hope, touches a nerve, and challenges the impossible.”

The daughter of Cape Cod entertainer Tedi Marsh and physician George Silva, Miller grew up in a house filled with music and began writing her own songs at the age of 10. “It was very clear from an early age that music was where my heart was, where my path would lead,” said Miller, “and both of my parents have been incredibly supportive and encouraging. My mom gave me a remarkable foundation, demonstrating not only the skill sets needed to become a singer, but also the dedication required to combine career and family life, and that gave me permission and encouragement to pursue my own passions.”

Now a mother herself, Miller hopes to convey that same encouragement to her son, Beckham. At 2 and a half, Beckham has already shown musical talent on the ukulele, drums, and piano.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music, where she majored in songwriting and music, Miller moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a songwriter. In 2007, she was invited to move to Los Angeles for five months to film “The Biggest Loser” and was one of the season’s four finalists—the youngest and heaviest woman contestant in the show’s history at that time. Her success on that show led to appearances on CNN's "Larry King Live," "Extra," "Access Hollywood," "Entertainment Tonight," and numerous commercials and stories in print publications.

Inventive and inspiring, honest and fearless, Miller used her unique experiences to build her career in music, as well as a personal development company inspiring clients in 40 states and several countries. She is a passionate and upbeat performer, speaker, storyteller, and songwriter, whose aim is to inspire others to follow their own dreams.

“On ‘The Biggest Loser,’ we talked about how image-conscious the music industry is,” said Miller, “but that was seven years ago, and a lot has changed. I think there is room for everybody now, in all parts of the music industry. It has evolved to a place where talent takes precedence, and we have artists like Adele and Meghan Trainor, who is also from Cape Cod. They’re not picture-perfect Barbie dolls, but they’re making a huge impact on the music industry.”

A Nashville songwriter for eight years now, Miller has written over 150 pop/soul/country/rock songs with an emphasis on detailed, thick lyrics and a strong piano sound. Musicians she has played with dubbed her sound, “swank-pop,” and she thinks that description suits her perfectly.

“It took time for me to learn to embrace who I am, not to try to be someone else, and not to try to write like somebody else, but just allowing myself to write and perform in the way that is best for me, which tends to be introspective, inspiring, upbeat, but from the depths of my heart,” she said.

“I’m thrilled to be ushering in my new EP, ‘Last Love Standing,” at Cotuit Center for the Arts,” Miller said. “My journey in music began on Cape Cod, growing up there, and it will always be my first ‘home.’ This musical chapter in my life is the culmination of eight years of living, writing, and performing with some of the most talented musicians in the world in Nashville, but, more importantly, it tells stories that I think are universally relatable—stories of love, heartache, success, stumbling, and everything in between.

“Sharing this music and these songs with Cape Cod is truly going to be like updating my family and friends on all that the last eight years has been, and I’m so grateful to be able to come ‘home,’ to my roots, to share my Nashville world with my Cape Cod family.”

Shaun Balin is an instrumental musician (fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and lap steel), background vocalist, and music producer in Nashville. He has played with such artists as Lady Antebellum, Brett Eldridge, Tyler Farr, Dan+Shay, and many others, appearing on shows such as the CMA Awards, American Idol, The Grand Ole Opry, and ABC’s hit television show, “Nashville.”

Tickets for “Stories and Songs in the Art Barn with Isabeau Miller” on Friday, November 28, at 7:30 PM, are $10. Tickets for “Living in a Love Song: Isabeau Miller in Concert” on Saturday, November 29, at 8:30 PM, are $15.
