analysisI will be comparing two different movies with different genres.

The first movie is insidious.

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

Parents (Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne) take drastic measures when it seems their new home is haunted and their comatose son (Ty Simpkins) is possessed by a malevolent entity.

Music The musical score to Insidious was composed by Joseph Bashara, who also appears in the film as the demon. Performed with a quartet and a piano, a bulk of the score was improvised and structured in the editing process, although some recording sessions began prior to filming. On describing the approach of the film's soundtrack, director James Wan explained, "We wanted a lot of the scare sequences to play really silent. But, what I like to do with the soundtrack is set you on edge with a really loud, sort of like, atonal scratchy violin score, mixing with some really weird piano bangs and take that away and all of a sudden, you’re like, 'What just happened there?

Camera angles

Establishing shot

This is when the setting fills up the frame, it is mostly used in the beginning of a scene to emphasize the setting, for example if there is a haunted house in the movie, an establishing shot would show the house at the beginning to build tension and draw the audience into the set. These are three establishing shots from the trailers.

Close up or extreme close up

This is when the camera closes up on the subject, it is used in horror films to make the audience feel uncomfortable and for their concentration to be on the actor’s emotion.

Point of view

This is when the camera is from someone’s point of view, the camera creates the affect that the consumer is seeing what the actor would see. This is mostly used in horror films to show a suspicious character up to something or chase scenes from the victim’s point of view.

Second movie I have chosen is baby driver

What it’s about: Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face

the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. Camera angles

In here, the camera was zooming to the main character. In addition, as you can see the baby driver (the hero) is in the lift with the villains and this could show that something was about to happen in the lift. In here, the movement of the camera was very still, and this could create tension on the audience.

This camera shot is the Medium shot. In addition, as you can see it shows half of the body.

As you can see, the man is showing the camera right in the baby’s face to show from his shoulder going up to his face. This is the Extreme wide shot.

This is a close up shot and as you can see, it only shows the face of the baby.

Comparison

I will be comparing the movies insidious and the baby driver. One of the movie is Mystery/Thriller and the other is Crime film/Thriller.

In insidious, Parents (Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne) take drastic measures when it seems their new home is haunted and their comatose son (Ty Simpkins) is possessed by a malevolent entity. But in the baby driver, it’s different because it was a talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

The music in both movies creates tension because in insidious, when the dad was going to save the son, you could hear piano playing at the background, this creates tension for as the audience because we expect someone bad or mysteries to happen but in the baby driver, every time there is music, it means that there are about to do a mission. The baby driver had a voice recorder and he used it to record people and used the recording to make a mixed tape for when he goes to the mission.

I will be talking about the different camera angle in both movies. In insidious, they have lots of over the shoulder angle. Its makes as the audience feel some tension because we know that something is going to appear or make as scared. Also they include low and high angle. Whenever the camera goes low, it gives as the feeling that were going to see something on the ceiling and when it goes to the high angle, we get the feeling that there is someone going to pull the character across the room but however in the baby driver, we would get a different feeling because it’s not based on horror so we would think something exciting is going to happen or something is about to go down. We get this feeling because in the baby driver, it’s mostly driving, so we get excited to either see the chase or what they are doing.

The picture and media that are used are both different in both. In insidious, there is a lot of picture when the father was going to save the son, there was stuff that looked like human but wasn’t but in the baby driver it’s nothing like that because the picture in insidious is meant to scare as the audience. Once they show the picture, they add the piano playing at the back ground but in the baby driver, it’s all about watching with excitement.
